Simple Pleasures for Women Who Love Being at Home

Some people thrive on movement…new places, new plans, new energy. I’ve learned I’m happiest when life slows down a little. There’s a certain kind of joy in dimming the lights, wrapping up in something soft, and having absolutely nowhere to be.

Maybe it comes with age, or maybe it’s the world feeling a little noisier these days, but staying in has started to feel like its own quiet luxury. A warm drink, soft socks, a familiar scent…those small comforts are often what help me feel most grounded.

If you have a friend who loves that same kind of comfort (or you’re the proud homebody yourself), these gift ideas for the homebody are thoughtful, practical, and just indulgent enough to make a cozy evening feel special. They’re the kinds of gifts that turn ordinary routines into small, beautiful rituals which is something we could all use more of.

Cozy Comforts

In the Wild Throw Blanket

Every true homebody knows that comfort is nonnegotiable. A good throw blanket like one from Barefoot Dreams or a Chappywrap can transform an ordinary evening into something that feels intentional. A weighted blanket adds a sense of calm while a cashmere or faux fur throw brings a bit of luxury to the sofa. Look for materials that feel soft to the touch rather than decorative pieces that never get used.

If you love the feel of Barefoot Dreams, you might also enjoy this post where I shared Barefoot Dreams inspired looks. It’s full of cozy pieces with that same soft, effortless style for less.

QUINCE CASHMERE CARDIGAN size S / COZY SWEATER SLIPPERS

Slippers are another essential comfort gift. If you or a loved one is due for a new pair, I recently shared a few of my favorite options in this post on the most comfortable house slippers for women with support. There are so many pairs that look as good as they feel. I’m currently wearing these UGG ones!

While you may feel like you have enough pajamas, these are worth the splurge. The Eberjay Cropped modal pajamas have quickly won the award for my favorite pair of pajamas! I love them so much that I now own them in both cropped and full-length styles.

You can find more of my favorite sleepwear picks in this post on the best pajamas for women over 50. There are so many comfortable and timeless options to choose from.

BAREFOOT DREAMS COZY LITE ROBE

For an extra thoughtful touch, add a soft robe from Barefoot Dreams, Eberjey, Lake Pajamas, or Soma. Just putting on something cozy helps to make mornings slower and evenings calmer. Even a pair of cozy socks with grippers tucked into a gift bag will be appreciated. Sometimes it really is the simple things that make home feel like a retreat.

If you’re looking for more robe options, I rounded up several favorites in this post on luxury bathrobes that make the perfect gift for women over 50. There are styles for every season and price point.

Home Scents and Calm

LA JOLIE MUSE PROVENCE LAVENDER CANDLE

Scents play a big role in how relaxed we feel at home. A candle makes a beautiful and thoughtful gift because it adds instant warmth to any space. We burn candles all the time. These La Jolie Muse candles are great because they have a wooden wick that crackles slightly when you burn them. I’m obsessed with lavender everything so this one is a household favorite.

My Brooklyn Candle Co. diffuser in the Itallia scent finally gave out after two solid years, and of course, I can’t find that exact scent again. So I ordered this candle version just the other day instead to bring the same soft, subtle warmth to the room.

If you want to give something more modern, the Pura Smart Diffuser is a clever choice. It allows you to control scent intensity and timing from your phone, which is perfect for anyone who loves their home to smell inviting but forgets to blow out a candle.

A pillow spray, magnesium bath salts, or a luxurious body oil and lotion from OSEA can also create a spa-like moment at home.

Warm Sips

Few things say “homebody happiness” quite like a warm drink in hand. An electric kettle or milk frother is a small appliance that makes a big impact. I love my Smeg Kettle and leave it out on the counter. You can also use these double wall mugs to keep your drink hot while staying cool to the touch, which makes them a little more enjoyable than your average coffee cup. For tea drinkers, a tea sampler, teapot, or infuser makes an easy gift. These are the kinds of little luxuries that most people would never think to buy for themselves but end up using daily.

Reading and Relaxation

For the homebody who loves quiet evenings, a reading-themed gift always lands well. A reading pillow or book light encourages her to slow down and actually enjoy a chapter or two.

If you are looking for something new to read or gift, I shared a few of my favorite recent releases in this post on the best new books to curl up with this fall. There are so many good ones this season.

Audiobook lovers will appreciate an Audible subscription or a pair of lightweight headphones. For someone who prefers digital reading, a Kindle Unlimited membership gives her access to thousands of books without adding clutter to her shelves.

If you want to make it personal, tuck in a handwritten note sharing your favorite book recommendation or what you loved about it.

Other Self-Care Gifts for at Home

Candle Warmer Lamp

If you love the soft glow of a candle but not the smoke, this candle warmer is a lovely alternative. It gently warms your favorite candle to release the scent without lighting a flame. It’s cozy, safe, and looks beautiful on a bedside table. This one even has a dimmer so you can create the perfect cozy mood.

Nécessaire The Hand Duo

This hand duo treatment is like skincare for your hands. It helps smooth, brighten, and soften without feeling greasy. It is a thoughtful upgrade to an everyday routine, especially during the colder months.

Esarora Ice Roller

A quick way to wake up tired skin. This Ice roller tool helps reduce puffiness, calm redness, and soothe irritation. It also feels wonderful on a headache or when you just need a cooling moment of calm.

Bathtub Caddy Tray

Turn an ordinary bath into an at-home retreat. This tray holds a book, candle, or even a glass of wine so you can relax without balancing things on the edge of the tub. A small touch that makes a big difference.

slip Silk Eye Mask and Silk Pillowcases

Silk is one of those quiet luxuries that feels as good as it looks. The silk eye mask and pillowcases help prevent sleep creases, keeps hair smooth, and adds a bit of elegance to your bedtime routine. It is a gift she will use every night and appreciate every morning.

Rifle Paper Co. Jigsaw Puzzle

Beautiful enough to frame when finished, this puzzle is as relaxing as it is pretty. It is the perfect activity for quiet nights when you want to unwind without a screen. We love to have a puzzle on the go to just pause at and work on slowly.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized the loveliest gifts aren’t really about things. They’re about how something makes us feel: calmer, cozier, more at peace in our own space.

These gift ideas for the homebody are meant to do just that. Small luxuries, soft textures, simple pleasures. Sometimes the most thoughtful gift is simply helping someone feel at home.

What little comforts make you happiest to stay in and unwind?

This post made me want to curl up on the couch with a new book. So I did!

Also wanted to let you know that the link on 11/1 to the Wit & Wisdom jeans got me to try a pair. Wow! I’m wearing them now, so comfortable and a perfect fit, first try. A revelation. Thanks!

  7. I have enjoyed the last few days of posts regarding pull on pants & no denim. Add those posts about comfort to today’s post & you are describing all things I love! I wanted to ask if you have found any comfortable pull on pants that have pockets? I know the conventional wisdom is that pockets add visual weight, but for me I need them!

    1. Most all of them have back pockets which I really require to hold my phone.

  8. The sun sets behind the western mountains at 4:30pm. I love a cup of decaf tea and sit and listen to an Audible book or read a book in my Kindle library on my iPad. I often listen and work on an ongoing puzzle on our dining room table. Right now I have the play end of our long table set up for coloring books and Prismacolor art pencils. Johanna Basford adult coloring books are a wonderful gift. I just ordered a gift box of a collection of teas for my best friend. I keep her in tea for the cold dark winter evenings. I need to get a birthday gift for my son. He hinted at needing a throw blanket. Nice collection of gifts Jennifer.

  9. I love being home, I enjoy it. It’s my happy place.
Good ideas, especially the ice roller. And I love silk pillowcases. I ve gotten several from quince, under $50. Washed in machine in lingerie bag and air dried. I’ve had them for several years and no signs of wear.

    Enjoy a cozy weekend!

  10. Lovely post, Jennifer, touches my heart. More and more we desire gentle quiet time. And no place more peaceful than the home fires. Add a little soft music and have a blessed blessed time, everyone!

  15. For people that like to take an occasional soak in the tub…..scented epson salts and the small bath pillow.

I try and swim my laps every afternoon. I love the nights when we have no plans so I can simply shower and put on my nice loungewear, make dinner and relax. Some lovely choices here.
