A Well Loved Edit for July

Happy Friday, ladies. Today I’m sharing my well loved edit for July. As you know, I try a lot of new products every month. Some are so-so, some are simply lousy, and some are home runs. These are the ones I reached for most often in July.

1- Merit Clean Volume Tubing Mascara is a new favorite. I’ve loved their Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara for years, and I still do, but this new tubing formula has an amazing comb-style brush that keeps my lashes separated and clump-free while still building volume. My goal is never false-eyelash-type lashes, and this has a natural look.

2 – Mederma Advanced Scar Gel. The biopsy site on the tip of my nose has healed over but it’s got a little dent and is still very, very pink, so I’ve been using this scar gel every morning and night. I may be imagining it, but it seems a tiny bit flatter, so I’m going to stick with it. When I get a wound of any kind now, the area stays red forever. I don’t know if this can help, but it sure can’t hurt.

3 – Amlactin Foot Repair. I don’t know about you, but the older I get, the more fragile my skin becomes….except for the soles of my feet, which are determined to turn into old, cracked shoe leather. I’ve been using this 15% lactic acid cream on the soles of my feet and heels for years…it’s fabulous. Lately, I’ve been using it on my knees for the crepey skin, and it’s looking so much better. I know they make this 15% body lotion, so I may order this to try.

4 – Tria FRX Skin Rejuvenating Fractional Laser (2nd Gen). I had the original Tria Laser years ago, but it disappeared during one of our moves. When I saw the updated version, I decided to try it again. I’m hoping it will help soften some of the pitting and creases from solar elastosis (extreme sun damage) on my lower face.

I’ve had laser treatments at the dermatologist, and they work, but they’re expensive, and the downtime isn’t always easy to manage. This laser isn’t nearly as powerful, but there’s no downtime. I use it every night after washing my face, and it only takes about 4-5 minutes.

BUCKET HAT / SHIRT – S / JEANS – 8 / SANDALS / NECKLACE

5 – Westport Illusion Wide Leg Jeans. I knew these jeans were going to be favorites the moment I pulled them on, and they are. They have a hidden-contour waistband in a butter-soft denim that holds its shape. Some returns have come in so a few are left on sale here, or there are other washes here. They’re so insanely comfortable, I’m seriously considering a black pair for the winter. Of course, these sandals, which I have in black and this beige color are on my feet almost every day.

6 – Lack of Color Palma Wide Straw Boater. I’ve had this hat for several years and been reaching for it a lot this month. Its wide, stiff brim gives my face and nose terrific protection from the sun, and the inner elastic band keeps it securely on. Boater-shaped hats are one of my favorites because they have an elegant look.

Have you tried any winners this month? I’d love to hear.

I loved that J Crew periwinkle shirt so much that I placed an order for it. Hope choice of size works. I wear a lot of blue (my color season is summer) Thanks for featuring it. Also, I get that you need a work life balance, so hopefully you will achieve that in your altered posting schedule.
    Thank you again!

    1. Thanks for being here Barbara!

  2. Love all the creams you mentioned. Always looking for new items for soles of feet.

  3. If you will be doing fusion surgery I think you will be glad you did after healing. I had ankle fusion and then mid-foot fusion. In the end best decisions ever. If I can answer any questions, feel free to ask. Always love your content!!!

    1. Thank you Jan. I think that’s wear I’m heading.

Which mascara do you prefer between the Ilia or the merit? They are both clean. Supposedly!

    1. The Ilia has a stricker profile for clean but I love them both. For fullness the Ilia tubing beats the new Merit tubing

My July winner was an Alabaster white tank top with a boat neckline and high enough armholes that my bra doesn’t show from Chico’s that has an overlay of soft crocheted lace. I snagged it during their 60% off sale, which made it affordable. It pairs really well with their white linen wide leg trousers.

    1. I love that about the armholes! The top sounds perfect

I really like Cartolina Nantucket, and their skirts especially and the beautiful patterns. I’ve had success with the tops too. The sale is always worth checking out.

  7. It’s great that you mentioned Mederma scar cream. I had Shingles several months ago and it left some dark red spots but this helped a lot. They are practically gone now but I still use Bio Oil and that works great too. I also use the same foot cream. You really need something if you walk everyday!! Thanks for the great info.

    1. Shingles is brutal! I’m sorry you went through that, Rosemary

  8. My shopping “winner of the month” was from J.Jill. It is called a Relaxed Johnny-Collared Shirt, and it is a red and white striped sweatshirt material type shirt that is not too heavy and not too light – just right for transition weather. I love the loose fit, short length, and versatility. I wore it last evening with navy pants to our library’s MahJongg game night, and I got several compliments!

    1. That sounds fabulous. Sort of like my the Frank & Eileen one.

    2. I bought the exact same shirt from J. Jill and my husband went crazy over it, calling it a “coastal beauty.” Wore it on our wedding anniversary.

  9. That’s strange. The jeans you have on look nothing like the ones pictured online. This is why online jeans shopping is pretty much impossible.

    1. Agreed. I am probably 40+ years older, 20 pounds heavier and 6+ inches shorter than the model. It would sure be nice if they used a few models with different body shapes to show clothes. Eileen Fisher does it and it’s so helpful.

      1. I love that EF does that, and find the range of models really helpful. However, my current pet peeve is the regular sized model is called by her name (“Annie is 5’9” and wears size S) and the plus-sized model is not.

You said you need new sneakers. Have you tried Vessi. They are apparently very comfortable and waterproof and made in Vancouver. I am going to get a pair to try. Thought they would be good for downpours in Singapore.

    1. I haven’t heard of them but will try to find a pair to try

    2. They are the best!! I have two pair!

      1. Good to know!

You turned me on Am-Lactin Foot Cream and now I’m using their lotion which is terrific for seborrheic keratosis-those scaly patches and bumps I am suseptible to. It is also a good general body lotion, it moisturizes without greasy residue and it actually moisturizes! Thanks for the tip!

    1. It’s not fancy but I love it because it works so well.

  12. You are on something that people have known for thousands of years before sunscreen was invented and that’s to protect yourself from the sun with your clothes. I know I don’t always feel like applying sunscreen. I am also a buffet for mosquitoes, and the alpha gal tick is prevalent in my area. The spf clothes are a godsend (though I can still get burned through them). A favorite purchase this season has been the gardening overalls from Duluth. I also have an spf wrap from Coolibar for ourdoor seating. Would love a post on SPF clothing!

    1. That would be a great post! I’ll work on it.
