The Talbots Semi-Annual Red Door Sale is in full swing, offering an extra 40% off markdowns, and it’s packed with the kind of classic, well-made summer pieces that don’t just look good—they work hard in your wardrobe.
If you’re someone who values quality fabrics, timeless silhouettes, and a fit that feels made for you, this is a sale worth browsing. Talbots continues to deliver thoughtful designs in a truly inclusive size range, from Misses to Petites, Plus, and Plus Petite. It’s a great time to refresh your staples and pick up those polished summer pieces you’ll actually reach for.
The Striped Linen Shirt I Styled Two Ways
There’s nothing more classic than a striped linen shirt for summer. Yes, it wrinkles—that’s part of its relaxed charm. Talbots sent me their Linen Shirt in Playful Stripe, which layers beautifully, drapes just right, and feels crisp without being stiff. It’s one of those wear-it-on-repeat pieces you’ll keep in rotation. There are matching shorts too if you like the look of a set.

I styled it here with the Girlfriend Denim Shorts in the highland wash, which strikes that balance between ease and structure with a fun, relaxed vibe. I rolled the cuff once to shorten them a bit… or I could have worn the petite version. I love the lighter, but undistressed wash for summer.

I did a half tuck with the shirt, rolled the sleeves three times, and popped the collar for my forest walk on a very hot day last week.

These Stovepipe Ankle Jeans are very comfortable. They have a relaxed, straight-leg shape that’s slim through the thigh—so they skim without squeezing—and the ankle-length hem gives them a modern, flattering finish. The touch of stretch makes them comfortable for all-day wear, and classic five-pocket styling keeps them timeless. These are the kind of jeans that look just as good with a linen shirt as they do with a simple tee and sandals. I could have used these in petite too, but they’ll be perfect with my booties in the fall.

Have you picked up any treasures at Talbots this summer?

Oh Jennifer! Feel better soon. Summer colds are the worst! On Talbots – I have their newer light wash wide leg jeans and a striped shirt too! Also tan skimmers ( capris) which I keep reading as a No-no -but I like the fit —wearing with a simple sandal.
I purchased a pair of navy cotton wide leg pants at Talbots in the spring – so lightweight and very comfortable – they might be a kind of poplin and they do make a little bit of a rustling noise when I walk – is that how poplin got its name, from the sound it makes :)? Over July 4th I bought black curvy straight leg chinos. I hope you feel better quickly! No good time of year to have the so-called common cold – it might be common, but it feels awful!
I think is does make a bit of a crinkly noise because it’s so crisp.
That hand cream sounds wonderful – scent & ingredients, but shipping from the states is far too expensive these days.
I think there is a nasty cold going around. Summer colds are the worse.
Have a safe trip home!
Jennifer, great picture. Cute outfit. I’m a big fan of Talbots….hope you feel better soon.
How do you keep the mosquitoes from eating you up on your forest walks? I got five bites yesterday on our dog walk on sidewalks around our subdivision! Deet makes me sick and any of the non Deet products don’t seem to work on me. You do look lovely and vibrant in that picture. I love and wear linen or gauze all summer here in southern Colorado where we have set records on heat. I also wear shorts. Sorry about your summer cold. They are the worst! Good luck on your flight home tomorrow. Perhaps taking a decongestant tonight and tomorrow morning would help with pain in your ears on the flight.
The Deet alternatives seem to work for me. I guess I’m lucky.
Love your outfit and the outfits you put together. Very stylish 🌸
Sorry you’ve got a summer cold. Something worse about them compared to other times-I think it’s having to deal with anything in the heat. Hope it passes quickly and that your travels go well. You look great in those outfits and I’m being tempted by the shirt!
Thanks Deby
Jennifer, You always look wonderful! Have trouble with my ears when flying. I haven’t tried them yet, but my ear doctor suggested Ear Planes. I saw them at CVS. Safe travel! Enjoy you! Kathy
I’ll look into them. My husband always struggles too
You look so fresh and cool in the striped shirt and shorts!!
Thanks!
I have the blue and green striped shirt that you have on,I love it! You always look so put together!
Sorry to hear you and your husband caught a bad cold! My husband and I recently visited Lower Michigan and developed COVID when we got back. ☹️
Oh no! I hope you’re recover quickly.
Good luck tomorrow. Hope it’s not Covid. Quite a lot going around!
I really like your pics of you in the shorts. You look wonderful.
I sure hope so too! Thanks
Thank you for this post. I love Talbots clothes. As a fairly new retired teacher, I’m enjoying picking up fun denim shorts and cute tops. I really like the linen shirts and dresses on offer this year.
You look great and I enjoy how you put pieces together.
You look great in the denim shorts with the striped linen shirt. A great put together casual outfit.
After retiring and losing weight, I’ve found Talbots to be a great source of classic and stylish clothing. Living in the south, I wear their relaxed chino shorts regularly. Thanks for showing the different combinations, you’ve given me some great ideas.
Good like with your cold and flight. Summer colds are annoying!
Their chino shorts are great!
The photo of you on your forest walk is wonderful. It really captured your beauty and personality. I’m looking at the playful stripe linen shirt and a couple other pieces, but haven’t made up my mind what I’m going to get yet. Decisions, decisions…
Thanks Christine. Being with my daughter is a delight!
Very cute outfits. I am all set for summer clothes, but if I weren’t, there are delightful options shown here.
