Dressing Room Diaries: Best New Colors and Shapes at Eileen Fisher

One of my favorite stores to visit while here in Vancouver is Eileen Fisher because I love their designs and don’t have one near me in California. It’s also one of my best sellers here on the blog because their sizing is extensive, the styles are timeless, and they create sustainable fashion that stands the test of time. I stopped in for a try-on session to check out the best new colors and shapes at Eileen Fisher.

If youā€™re new here, welcome. AĀ dressing room diaryĀ is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so that you can see whatā€™s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 145 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. Youā€™ll see me try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see whatā€™s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run. All Eileen Fisher designs are available online in a full range of sizes, from XXS to 3X, and many come in petite.

I wore my favorite knit ankle booties into the store, which wouldn’t be what I would choose to style most of these with, so take that into account.

SILK STRETCH JERSEY SCOOP NECK TOP size M / WASHABLE FLEX PONTE JACKET size petite S / WASHABLE FLEX PONTE PINTUCK PANT size XS / NECKLACE

Their washable flex ponte fabric is the stuff dreams are made of for both travel and comfy clothes that look polished. It’s a Tencel blend with plenty of spandex, so it retains its shape. This high collar open front jacket has front patch pockets and is easy to pop over so many things. It comes in 3 colors; I’m wearing the Grove.

I’m wearing it over their customer-favorite, washable flex pintuck pant that comes in 4 colors. I am a huge fan of their washable crepe pants and can say that these ones would give them a run for their money. The pintuck seam down the front gives them nice definition.

I added a slim-fitting top in one of their new bright colors for spring called Rapsody. This long-sleeved top is soft, stretchy, and a perfect layering piece to wear on its own or under many things. I’m wearing a medium, but I could have easily worn a small.

SANDWASH TWILL STAND COLLAR JACKET size S / STRETCH SILK JERSEY TANK size M / SANDWASH TWILL WIDE LEG TROUSERS size petite S

This little “suit” is made from a soft, fluid twill with a sueded surface that feels like silk. The easy fit short jacket has two top buttons you can close for a more structured look, or just wear it loose and drapey like this. I’m wearing black in this jacket and trousers, plus they also come in ocean or grove.

The wide-leg trousers feel fabulous and have a wide elastic waistband that is so comfy. I like to cover elastic waistbands either by tucking and blousing a top over it or just ruching a knit top like this stretch silk jersey tank at the waistline. The tank is slightly body-conscious, so I sized it up to a medium.

COTTON HEMP STRETCH WIDE LEG PANT size petite S / COTTON FLUFF CREW NECK TOP size XS / COTTON FLUFF CARDIGAN size XS

This cotton fluff yarn is soft and thick enough to wear now and into the spring. It’s a cozy boućle knit that feels substantial but isn’t bulky. I’m wearing the bone, which is a fabulous neutral to go with so many other colors, and it also comes in black. The cardigan fits me in XS, but the crew neck top is a bit snug so I’d go up to a small.

These cotton hemp trousers have a very full leg in a thick, slightly stiff fabric. It does have stretch and comes in 4 colors, in both petite and regular inseams. I’d like this style of pants with a heavier bootie or sneaker to balance the wider leg and thicker fabric.

SILK GEORGETTE CREPE SCOOPNECK DRESS size S / SHEER SILK GEORGETTE PONCHO size XX/XS

Eileen Fisher makes this silk georgette tank dress each season in various colors. Here it is in Rapsody. It looks pretty stupid styled with these booties, but we’ve already covered that šŸ¤£. It’s straight fitting, full length and I would certainly benefit from the petite sizing.

Most ladies prefer something to cover their arms, so I popped on this matching sheer silk georgette poncho. It comes in various sizes, but the store had 4 of them in size XXS which seems pretty roomy. This little poncho gets the job done without adding weight, so it’ll be great in the hottest weather.

COTTON/HEMP STRETCH LINEN LANTERN PANT size S / COTTON FLUFF CREW NECK TOP size XS / LIGHT COTTON NYLON HOODED JACKET size S

This cotton nylon hooded jacket comes in 3 colors, and I’m wearing Citron. It’s a boxy fit with a drawstring at the hood and hem, so you can snug it in against the elements and give it some shaping. Citron is not really my color, but it would sure be cheery on a gray day!

Style Tip: A lantern-shaped pant leg needs to hit at or above your ankle so there is no excess fabric to lay on your foot and there is no “break” in the leg.

These cotton hemp stretch linen lantern pants are clearly too long on me, so they look rather sloppy. I’m wearing the color Briar, and they also come in 4 other colors. It’s one of Eileen Fisher’s most popular styles, which I’m not showing to its most flattering advantage.

WASHABLE STRETCH CREPE LANTERN SKIRT size XS /

This skirt and sweater came home with me. I adore the unique shape of this skirt, and the machine-washable fabric makes it a dream to travel with and care for. It doesn’t come in petite, so I will simply fold the elastic waistband over one time, which will shorten it just enough. This is the same washable crepe as my favorite pants, which have been on constant rotation in my wardrobe for longer than I can remember and go into every suitcase I pack.

I spotted this sweater on the sale rack and could not resist it. It appears red on me, but it’s actually a raspberry/azalea color. It’s a super soft regenerative wool in a very cropped shape so I plan to simply wear a tank under it so nothing is exposed when I raise my arms. I prefer neutrals in quiet colors on me and don’t own anything red, but I think it could be time for me to experiment a bit.

ORGANIC COTTON AND RECYCLED COTTON CREWNECK SWEATER size S / COTTON NYLON HOODED JACKET size S / WASHABLE FLEX PONTE PANT size XS / WASHABLE FLEX PONTE JACKET size petite S

Here’s the same cotton nylon jacket as above, this time in the color Grove. I’m wearing it over the washable flex ponte pants in Ocean and this organic cotton and recycled cashmere crew neck sweater. I love wearing a column of color under a third layer, and Eileen Fisher makes it so easy. On the right, I’m wearing the washable flex ponte jacket in Ocean for a total matchy-matchy look, which I also love.

Hi Jennifer, I keep getting taken off your blog. Do you know why?

    1. Google did an update thatā€™s been putting many of my emails in spam. I also had a snafu with my email subscriber but that seems to be working its way out. I see youā€™re subscribed now so let me know if there continues to be an issue.

  2. I’ve outgrown Eileen Fisher now. I don’t find their styles exciting at all.

  3. Hi ..just found your blog . Enjoyed reading pass posting. Bunking down in Victoria for a few weeks . Interesting article you wrote on Victoria . Weā€™re exploring & finding the hidden gems of Victoria on our travels.

    1. Welcome! Victoria is one of our favorite spots! Have fun

  4. EF does wonderful fabrics. I swear by her Tencel. I would say 50% of my closet is EF. Costly, yes, but the fabrics wear like iron.

  5. At 5ā€™2ā€ and 138 lbs. I love the comfort and look of wide leg pants on me. I do like them long enough to touch my shoes otherwise they do look funny on me. I always wear socks as I have painful feet. The long pants hide my socks. I love the look of EF clothing on you and would love on me too especially the ocean column of color look but just not in my budget.

    1. Eileen Fisher has wonderful sale, sometimes 40%off. So many pieces are on sale that I shop online to see them all.

      1. They have a great sale going on right now!

    Hi Jennifer,
Somehow I am not receiving your posts any longer. I have been following you for a few years now but all last week the posts stopped and when I try to enter my email to receive them the site sends me to the what to pack to travel page.
Hopefully you can help me get the posts back.

    Thanks

    1. It says your email was added back today, so hopefully that will fix the snafu I’ve been struggling with! Let me know if you don;t get tomorrows post and be sure to check your spam folder.

  8. Love that red sweater on you! And the fluff sweater set is a beautiful match for your hair. Great post this morning.

  9. DiannešŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦ says:

The red sweater looks amazing on you!

I love the neck and the length of it.
I would have to shop EF on sale!

    1. They have an additional 50% off their sale right now!

  10. Hi Jennifer,

This morning I tried to send you an email with a question I had. When I tried sending it to the address listed on your blog ([email protected]) it came back as not being a valid email address. Is there a difference address I can try? Thanks!

    1. That is my correct email. Check the spelling and try again, then let me know.

  11. Like you, Iā€™m not a red wearer but you look great in that sweater! I just might have to give it a try!

  12. Jennifer, the first pants you have on have pleats. Really cute! Your reference does not match. I canā€™t see them on the model. Are they the same?

  13. EF is not my cup of “very expensive” tea, but some of these new colors and shapes are nice. Most are overwhelming in style and amount of fabric. That fluffy knit is beautiful, and the length shown on the model is perfect, but it’s too long on most of us. Also, photos show trousers at ankle length for Petites when the inseam would be full length on my 5′ 2″ body. You’re the perfect height for many of these, and most of the shades (like the red) look great on you!

  14. I haven’t tried the new colors but I sure do like them. Love your little raspberry sweater and skirt, so cute on you. I’m still not a fan of the really wide leg pants but I think they look nice on you. I just feel I’m too short. Eileen Fisher has the best clothes.

  15. Love you in that new color! So glad you listened to your readers. Youā€™re going to get so many compliments when you wear this red top.

  16. Janice in Ky says:

So glad you decided to go with the raspberry sweater as I said before the color is lovely on you. I think you will find it will work well with all your neutrals. Will give you that pop of color and make your day brighter šŸ˜Š. Any shade of pink makes me happy.
Everything was very nice and I can see the possibilities. However Eileen Fisher is a little pricey for my budget.

  17. I have to repeat myself: you look so good in red. It brightens your face and looks great with your hair and glasses. Do give it a try!
Too bad Eileen Fisher is out of small or Iā€™d get it this sweater myself. Iā€™m 5ā€™2 and can wear the cropped styles.

    1. Her sale is so good this time of year.

  18. Oh yes, the raspberry sweater and black skirt are just a gorgeous, classic color and style! The raspberry color brightens your complexion and flatters your hair too. What a fun addition to your wardrobe. I love it when weā€™re unexpectedly surprised at how a new color or style uplifts our spirit.
    Happy weekend!

    1. Have a great one Jan!

  19. Love this post! Thanks for the sizing recommendations, so helpful!

  20. Jennifer, so glad you bought that black skirt and reddish cropped sweater! It looks super on you. Maybe you should consider buying the sweater in the plum color too. The shape is modern looking and although I might not be able to wear this shape (large bust and short neck), it is wonderful on you! Enjoy.

    1. Thanks Bea. I seldom purchase while doing a dressing room diary because I like to think about clothing before I add it to
      My wardrobe.

  21. DENISE E BELLERDINE says:

I, too, love EF crepe pants for travel! And before I retired her clothes were a work staple. BUT, at my age I don’t appreciate cropped tops at all, so I’ll forego many of the current crop of tops (pun intended!). Thanks for updating on the new colors.

  22. Jennifer, you look fantastic in that red sweater.
