The Best Sandals for Women Over 60 (That Look as Good as They Feel)
Somewhere along the way, a full day in bad sandals stopped being something I could just push through. I’m not exactly sure when that happened, but I stopped fighting it. Now I just buy better sandals.
The problem is that most sandals marketed as comfortable look like they were designed by someone who has never met a stylish person. So I’ve done the legwork to find the best sandals for women over 60 that actually deliver on both. Arch support, cushioning, real stability, and still something you’d actually want to wear out the door.

What I Actually Look For In The Best Sandals For Women Over 60
Before I get into my picks, here’s what I actually look for when I’m evaluating a sandal. The footbed needs real arch support, not just a little cushioning that compresses after an hour. Adjustable straps matter more than most people realize because feet swell, especially in heat, and a sandal that fits fine at 10 am can feel tight by 3 pm. I also want a sole with some grip. Smooth leather on a slick surface is a problem waiting to happen. And the style still has to work. Supportive doesn’t have to mean clunky, and everything on this list proves that.
My Favorite Sandals to Wear Over 60

I can’t stop wearing these ultra-comfortable, Josef Seibel low-wedge sandals. I debated between the white and this bright shade, but after two weeks, I realized this color goes with everything because it matches my hair.

I can’t say enough about my ECCO Flowt 2 Band Sandals. They’ve become my go-to on warm, sunny days! The adjustable straps ensure a perfect fit, and the cushioned footbed feels like walking on clouds.
Mephisto is known for making incredibly comfortable shoes, and this wedge pair definitely lives up to that reputation. It has that supportive, cushioned feel the brand is known for, but with a slightly more elevated look. The platform gives you height without that pitched-forward feeling, so it’s easy to wear for longer stretches without thinking about your feet.

This is a very wearable wedge that doesn’t try too hard. The height is manageable, the footbed has some support, and it’s easy to walk in without feeling wobbly.

A simple flat sandal is harder to find than it should be, especially one that actually feels good after a few hours. This pair from Margaux is soft, minimal, and doesn’t fight with your outfit. The white color is sold out, but it also comes in a neutral, saddle, champagne, black, and snakeskin, in narrow, medium, and wide, sizes 32-44.
The Best Walking Sandals for Travel and All-Day Comfort

A walking sandal has one job: disappear. You shouldn’t be thinking about your feet. These are the pairs I’d reach for when I know I’m going to be on pavement for hours, or when I’m traveling and one sandal has to handle everything from sightseeing to dinner.

This Naot Dorith flat sandal is one of their all-time bestsellers. This gladiator-inspired style comes in 12 colors and has an adjustable top strap, ensuring a perfect fit. It has amazing reviews and is perfect for long days on your feet. I found this ran wide so it may not work for you ladies with narrow feet.
Ecco tends to do a very good job with comfort, and this sandal is no exception. It’s lightweight, supportive, and stays put on your foot, which makes a big difference if you’re walking a lot. I’d reach for this one when traveling or anytime I know I won’t be sitting much.
These walking sandals from DREAM PAIRS immediately caught my eye! They’re a budget-friendly find that doesn’t sacrifice comfort. The flexible straps gently stretch to accommodate bunions and move with your feet to help prevent blisters…because cute shoes should feel as good as they look! These come in 5 colors, sizes 6-11.
The Best Everyday Sandals

These are the sandals I put on without thinking. A clean slide, a simple leather sandal, something low-profile that doesn’t compete with whatever I’m wearing. I tend to stay in neutrals for everyday, but I’ll add something with a little visual interest if it still feels easy to wear.
A soft gold sandal like this is surprisingly practical for everyday wear. It adds a little interest to your outfit, but still mixes easily with everything from denim to summer dresses. Clarks tends to get comfort right, and this one is easy to wear for errands, travel, or just a full day out.
I haven’t tried this exact pair yet, but I’ve had great experiences with Birdies in the past. They tend to be very comfortable with a nice cushioned feel, which is always a plus. The white keeps things light and easy for warmer months, and it’s a great option for everyday wear.
The Best Flip Flops That Aren’t Hard on Your Feet

I still love a flip-flop. There’s something about them that just feels like summer. That said, I don’t wear the completely flat, flimsy ones anymore. My feet let me know pretty quickly if I make that mistake.
Now, I look for flip-flops with a bit more structure. A contoured footbed, some arch support, and a slightly thicker sole make all the difference. They still feel easy and casual, but they don’t leave your feet aching after a quick trip out that somehow turns into a much longer outing.
The ECCO Flowt Oasis Slide Sandal is yet another win from ECCO. With its sleek design and cushioned footbed, it delivers the perfect mix of style and comfort. Plus, the easy slip-on style means no fussing with straps or buckles—just slide them on and go! They come in 5 colors, sizes 4-12.5! I have my eye on the Moonrock and Python.
These Vionic Tide sandals are great for when you want the ease of a flip-flop but need serious support. They’re designed with a podiatrist-developed footbed, so they offer excellent arch support, which is a lifesaver during long summer days. These come in 22 colors, sizes 5-13.
A friend of mine swears these Archies Arch Support Flip Flops are the most comfortable she’s ever worn—she even uses them as house shoes! With built-in arch support and a cushioned footbed, they’re perfect for everything.
The Best Dressy Sandals That Are Still Comfortable

If I’m going to a wedding, dinner, or anything that involves standing around longer than expected, I reach for sandals that look dressy but feel manageable. A low block heel is usually my first choice because it gives a little lift without putting pressure on the ball of your foot. Wedges can also be a good option, especially if they have some cushioning.
I also pay attention to the straps. If they’re too thin or placed in the wrong spot, they can dig in or rub before the night is over. A sandal that feels secure from the start is always the better choice.
If you prefer a darker neutral, this medium brown shade sandal is a great alternative to tan or black. The slingback detail adds a slightly dressier feel, which makes it perfect for elevating everyday outfits like denim or a simple sundress.
This wedge from Easy Spirit strikes a good balance between dressy and comfortable. The natural tone feels light and polished for spring and summer, but it’s still neutral enough to go with just about everything.
This sandal is a nice balance of simple and a little bit dressy. The champagne tone gives it just enough interest to elevate an outfit, especially in the spring and summer when lighter colors take over. It’s easy to wear, comfortable, and doesn’t feel like a “special occasion only” shoe.
If you like a little bit of shine, this silver sandal is an easy way to add it without going too far. It has a clean, simple look that works nicely with dresses or slightly nicer outfits, especially in the warmer months.
The Best Sandals for Wide Feet or Swelling

This is something a lot of women deal with, especially in summer heat, and it can make sandal shopping genuinely frustrating. Adjustable straps are the first thing I look for because they give you flexibility as your feet change throughout the day. Softer leathers and stretch materials help, too. Slides can work, but only if they’re cut generously across the widest part of the foot. Otherwise, you end up with that uncomfortable ridge of skin over the edge of the strap.
These Abeo sandals are a dream for those who need customized support. With built-in orthotics and three adjustable straps, they provide personalized comfort tailored to your foot’s needs. The velcro straps make them easy to put on and take off or adjust for the perfect fit. These come in 8 colors, in sizes 5-10.
I know finding a stylish orthopedic shoe can feel nearly impossible, but these sandals from Aetrex really do check both boxes. The built-in arch support and memory foam cushioning keep your feet happy all day, and the adjustable straps make them a great fit for different foot widths. Comfortable, supportive, and actually cute. These come in 9 colors, sizes 6-12.
This Vionic fisherman-style sandal is a great option if you need a little more room through the foot. It comes in wide widths, and the design offers coverage while still allowing some flexibility, which helps if your feet tend to swell throughout the day.

I can’t even imagine just being able to walk into a department store and buy shoes. I have a narrow foot and stores and most brands left me behind years ago. Online, Nordstrom has 1,775 flat sandals available but when you filter in Narrow the number goes down to 18.
Nice sandals, if they actually came in my size – 10.5. Not one of those shown comes in a 10.5 (Margaux is the exception). An 11 is too large; a 10 is too small. I am so fed up with trying to find shoes, much less sandals. New Balance carries walking shoes in my size, but I do not want to live in walking shoes! I know that I am not the only woman with this problem. Talbots also carries a 10.5; however, my feet are very thin (not narrow). My feet slide all the way through because they are to large (footbed to top of sandal). Sorry to vent, but I am so very frustrated.
I understand your frustration!
Last year I bought Clarks Reileigh Park Sandals. They are absolutely my go to that I put on everyday. So much support and the straps over the foot are even cushy underneath against the skin. I have lots of trouble finding sandals with enough support that don’t have bands that rub the wrong way and these do the trick.
Great to know! Thank you for the suggestion.
My real challenge is that I wear orthotics. Cannot add them to sandals so getting the right foot support has made sandals almost impossible for me unfortunately.
That’s a real challenge.
Such a timely post for me! I’m thinking ahead to a Mediterranean cruise with our adult children in September and am looking for a sandal that will be nice with a moderately dressy outfit for dinner AND potentially comfortable enough for shore excursions. A big ask, I know. I buy Ecco and Naot shoes frequently, so they are on my list, but Sofft and Comfortiva have some that look like candidates as well. We are carry-on only packers, so shoe choices have to be very judicious, and I find it’s one of the trickiest parts of suitcase management.
I wear sandals all year in coastal CA and love my Orthofeet ‘Amalfi’ sandals. They come in wide width which can be hard to find and even have an arch support you can insert if needed. Also love Orthofeet ‘Hope’ in red which is a lot of fun as a pop of color with neutrals.
I’ve pretty much given up on wearing sandals unless it’s just for a few hours. But seeing how supportive these sandals look I might have some better choices. Thanks for all the work you do. 🌸
Supportive sandals are very prevalent now. You may find some great ones.
My all time favourite sandals are from SAS and they have been the most comfortable sandals I have ever worn!
I have a large bunion that bothers me so the only sandals I can wear are those that go between your toe and don’t have a band around the area south of the big toe. I notice you have non except a flip flop. I just bought the UGG Golden Gaze Toe Post Sandal that I hope will work. Thanks!
Thank you for a good post, Jennifer. Pedro Garcia also makes a stylish comfortable sandal that I enjoy for travel. Sometimes available at the summer Nordstrom sale.
I tried on a pair of them at the last Nordstrom anniversary sale and loved them!
Jennifer, Thank you for such a wonderful, helpful and much appreciated post. You always seem to keep your readers informed. Thank You for all you give to us.
Thanks for bringing here Karen!
Good Morning Jennifer. Great line up! I’d love to buy several of these. Wouldn’t be caught dead in a pair of the original Crocs, but they’ve got a couple of flip flops that I practically live in during Summer. Being a food blogger I’m on my feet cooking a lot and those crocs are right there with me. I’ve had a pair of the Aetrex Jess Sandals for a few years and they are indeed a great shoe. I’ll order another pair this year because mine are starting to wear on the sole. Simply because I wear them a lot. I have several pairs of Vionic sandals and love them also and a pair of Mephisto that are amazing.. One of these days, and at your recommendation, I’m going to try the Naots. I’m intrigued.
Good morning! I love my Naots and Mephisto. They’re so comfy.
While I love the look of the lightweight, strappy sandals that are on trend this year, here’s a tip for those who must wear orthotics (like me) – the Naot Papaki. They have really nice coverage that wraps around the heel so the orthotic is pretty well hidden. Zappos has the best color/size selection and Nordstrom sells a few too.
Thank you Annie! Many of us do wear them.
I have narrow feet and have suffered with sandals (well actually all shoes) that “almost” fit. The straps are always too long and don’t hold the shoe in place, causing it to flop around making blisters. The too long ends of the straps flap in the breeze, not pretty. I wore a pair of SAS Nudu sandals on all day excursions over Greek cobblestones last August, a pretty tough test, and they were great! Finally.
Not nearly enough shoe manufacturers offer narrow widths, and those which do, often are very inconsistent. (I’m looking at you, Easy Spirit)
I agree with you, and the same is true of wide shoes, which I often need.
Wow, I have 3 of these styles! I have 2 pair of the Naot Dorith which I reach for most often. I have a pair of the Naot sandals that you show with the gauze dress. Mine are red. They are great for dinners out. I also have a pair of the Vionic Tide flip flops which are very comfortable! For all day comfort, my go to sandals are Taos. I have a pair of their wedge sandals that I have had for many years. I’ve worn them on tours when traveling because they have great support. The straps were a bit too long for my feet but I had them shortened and it was well worth it!
That was so smart of you. People forget that cobblers can do a lot to help with our shoes.
Great post, Jennifer! I have 2 pairs of Naot Dorith, 3 pairs of Taos, and Birkenstock slippers, soft bed Arizona, and my newest find is Arizona with rivets. I call those my “fancy” sandals. Love them.
I never, ever expected to wear Birks and now have several pairs. The soft bed are so comfy on my foot.
Thanks for finally showing reasonably priced items! My budget thanks you!!
I recently purchased the Taos Trophy 2 and love it. It feels secure on my foot when walking. I perspire outside in the summer and the suede footbed prevents my foot from sliding on the sandal from moisture. I am thinking of purchasing a second pair.
I’ll try them! Thanks Charmaine.
Wow- that was incredibly comprehensive!
Thank you
My pleasure.
