Best Spring 2024 Handbags I’m Loving

With the arrival of warmer weather, I know many of you are looking to update your handbags, I know I am. I’ve stored away many of my winter bags now and taken a few lighter-weight old favorites out of their dust bags. Handbag shapes go in and out of style, the same way that jeans and shoes do, so an updated shape helps to make every outfit feel fresh and modern. Here are some of the best spring 2024 handbags I’m loving.

WEARING – ALL SAINTS CROSSBOdY BAG / ATHLETA EVERLASTING SHIRT size S on sale / EILEEN FISHER STRETCH CREPE LANTERN SKIRT size S / LIQUID METAL BRACELET / SIMILAR SANDALS / OURA RING

Woven handbags are always popular for spring and summer. This All Saints crossbody bag is a favorite I’ve carried for several years. It’s very lightweight, durable, and holds quite a lot. The strap is removable if you want to carry it as a clutch, and it has a magnetic closure on top. The straw coordinates with everything, and I love the black trim. Yesterday, I wore it to lunch with one of my favorite no-wrinkle shirts, my stretchy Eileen Fisher skirt, some sandals that are as old as the hills, and my liquid metal bracelet.

WEARING- DE MELLIER VANCOUVER BAG / MINI BELFAST JACKET IN NAVY size S / SPANX WIDE LEG PANTS size MP / ON CLOUD SNEAKERS

I adore my DeMellier Vancouver bag! The strap can easily be doubled to wear as a short-shoulder bag or lengthened to wear as a crossbody. Its structured shape holds quite a lot, and the clasp snaps closed securely. This bag comes in tons of colors here on their website and I opted for this taupe because it’s a seasonless color and looks great worn with white.

TALBOTS STRAW CROSSBODY BAG

This straw crossbody bag caught my eye because it’s the perfect size. It’s large enough to carry your wallet, cell phone, sunglasses, and other essentials and compact enough to look polished. I find shaped bags hold so much more than envelope types, and their design makes it easy to find what I need without digging through a non-structured bag.

Best Spring 2024 Handbags I’m Loving

Bembien Le Sac Bag

I’ve always been a big fan of the handwoven Bembian bags, which are handcrafted by artisans from around the world. This Le Sac bag is smaller than many of their large totes and comes in five colors. This one is the perfect size for all your daytime essentials and small enough to use for dinners out. I like the option of white woven leather which shows the weave nicely.

Tory Burch Robinson Chain Wallet Bag

The Robinson Chain Wallet Bag is the perfect size for ladies who prefer a compact bag! Its sleek design and handy size are perfect for shopping days, evenings out, or anytime you want a sleek bag in a timeless neutral. Tory Burch bags are made with top-notch materials, and their style is timeless.

Clare Vivier Petit Moyen

I’ve always been a fan of Clare Vivier’s bags. They’re crafted with attention to detail and high-quality materials in modern and unique shapes. This mini messenger bag exudes sophistication and adds a touch of effortless style in a small yet functional size. This weave looks like rattan, but it’s actually woven leather, which gives it a great spring look.

Clare Vivier Pot de Miel

I’ve had my eye on this Clare Vivier honeypot bag for several months. I think the shape is adorable, and the bamboo handle just adds to its charm. It also comes in vibrant green or beige with a tortoise chain handle. This type of bag can be carried as an evening bag or daytime. She also makes various shoulder straps you can add to carry your bag hands-free.

STAUD Moon Bag

I love the unique half-moon shape and sleek design of this Staud Moon bag. It has a sleek, modern feel, and the color is perfect all year round. I also found this bag in black or paper white raffia here.

Top Handle Wicker Bag

This top handle wicker bag is a nice polished blend of classic wicker with white leather and polished trim. This is sized more for a trim looking evening bag with a removable strap to make it a ladylike top handle.

Talbots Raffia Crossbody Bag

If you love adding pops of color into your wardrobe, this raffia crossbody from Talbots will do just that. The combination of the smooth leather, woven raffia, and shiny gold hardware makes this a lightweight bag you can carry for the day or evening. It also comes in indigo blue.

Naghedi Ecru St Barts Mini-Tote

These Naghedi woven neoprene bags and totes have been the rage for seasons. This mini tote is just the right size to carry your sunglasses, wallet, phone, mints, etc. It also comes with a shoulder strap. It comes in 4 colors and in other sizes here. I particularly like the shape of this crossbody in the same weave.

Talbots Canvas Crossbody

Sometimes, a tiny handbag just won’t do, and this canvas crossbody from Talbots has ample room to hold all of your extras, like a book or an e-reader! It also comes in a black leather version.

J. Crew Semicircle Rattan Clutch

Rattan is one of my favorite materials for unique-shaped spring/summer handbags. This semicircle clutch from J. Crew is an adorable shape and has a removable crossbody chain so you can carry it hands free.

Structured and soft bags are both on trend this spring. Which do you prefer to carry? I’ve always gravitated to structured bags so I can easily find things inside, but softer options are appealing to me this year.

What I see a lot of here in central Illinois are Vera Bradley style bags. Cloth with bright floral prints.

  2. I am carrying the Lo and Sons Pearl in graphite. You had recommended it for travel quite a while ago. I was saving it for a future trip but decided to start using it as my daily bag this spring. I have been using the Waverly for travel instead.

    1. I LOVE both those bags

  3. Fun selection of styles. I ordered the blue Talbot straw crossbody when you showed it recently and I love it. It holds exactly what you said it would plus some essential makeup and it’s perfect. Great quality. I’ve had it less than a week and have already used it 3 times!

I’m frustrated by prices that jump from under $30 to over $150. I don’t want that low and can’t go that high. Also wondering why sizes jump from small crossbody to large tote? I need sunglasses and reading glasses in addition to wallet, phone, etc. Little crossbodies won’t do but I don’t want a large bag. 12″ x 9″ x 4″ (east-west) would be perfect. And has to be structured enough to stand alone. But it’s hard to find. Am I too particular?

  5. Dumb question, but … I have never travelled with a straw bag. How do they hold up if there’s a downpour or even a drizzly day? I’ve been eyeing that navy Talbots bag you showed. It’s a wet, unpleasant day here in Portland, Me today.

    1. I haven’t had trouble with mine. I think exterior drizzle is fine. Putting in into water could be a problem however they are pretty sturdy.

  6. Oh, this post on handbags … my weakness has always been handbags, and I love spring/summer handbags the best! I received a Naghedi bag in black and white for Christmas two years ago, and I love its year-round versatility. I also love Allsaints bags. Thank you (I think …!) for introducing me to Bembian and Clare Vivien bags today. Love them.
As to your question about what bag I’m carrying now, I love wearing my dark brown Dragon Diffusion Santa Croce bag in early spring when, in Connecticut, it seems too soon/too cold for wicker bags just yet.

    1. I love that bag!! I just found one in blue that is breathtaking.

  7. These are all beautiful handbags. I really like the first straw bag you were wearing. I’m always on the lookout for a small clutch bag that holds as much as possible. With a bad shoulder I just don’t use crossbody ones anymore.

  8. I love looking at these bags. The compositions look like works of art.

I always feel like an oddball because I want a larger bag (without it being a tote). Structured hard sided bags and ones that pick up dirt easily don’t work with my active lifestyle, carrying multiple items and sometimes having to put the bag on a floor or in back of car. I have one nicer bag I wear when needed, but still have to balance what I can put in it.

Thank you for doing this research. Happy Spring!

    1. They do! I’m a bit of a nut about my bags for sanitary reasons. If at all possible, I avoid putting them on the floor. I’ve been know to hang them off my knee when sitting, or on anything close by if I need both hands for something.

  9. Great post! My DeMillier Vancover just arrived and she’s gorgeous! I also got the taupe and the gold hardware sort of blends so it’s fine. All saints is a favorite brand and great quality! (It’s hard to find straw bags not trimmed in brown leather for us winters.) Claire V is chef’s kiss, but for some less expensive inspired bags check out Madewell and Quince.

    1. That’s exciting! A new bag is such a mood and outfit lifter. That taupe is stunning. I agree about Quince and Madewell. Great suggestion!!

  10. Nice selection of handbags! I have a vintage Ralph Lauren straw hobo with leather trim that will be outside soon. The Midwest weather is not quite there yet.

    1. Your bag sounds stunning
