Why You Need Centella Asiatica In Your Skincare
This Monday, I am musing about some summer wardrobe essentials, whimsical accessories, and why I added Centella Asiatica to my skincare regime. Have you tried it yet?
My new sunhat arrived, and it is impressive. It comes equipped with three different colors of interchangeable grosgrain ribbons, which is a good thing because, without one, it would have never stayed on my head Sunday.
I wore it with my new lightweight dress and navy espadrilles. Hats and espadrilles are wardrobe basics for me throughout the summer. My dress is straight with no puffy sleeves, no tiers, and no excess fullness in the body. I will likely belt it the next time because that’s how I roll. It has buttons up the side you can unbutton as high as you’re comfortable with. It comes in misses and petite. I am wearing 6 misses which I turned up on hem length. I prefer the deeper armhole on the misses than the petite.
Whimsical Accessories
I did feel a bit Little Bo Peepish in this hat, so its next outing will be with jeans and a simple tee. Because I love a touch of whimsy in my accessories, my outfits can easily cross over to costumey which can be fun, but is not always my plan š
My wicker handbag is decades old and a favorite for many reasons, not the least because it was designed by Kate Spade early in her career. The silver snake print handle and top flap add a bit of edgy interest. I continue to love Kate Spade accessories because the brand retained her vision after she sold it to Neiman Marcus in 2006. It then went on to be owned by Liz Claiborne and now Tapestry, the parent company of Coach.
Kate Spadeās niece, Rachel Brosnanahn, played tribute to her aunt by becoming the face of the campaign for Frances Valentine, which is the brand Kate started two years before her death. Rachel is the Emmy award-winning star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The bag she’s carrying in this ad is a ringer for my bag with a different handle/

Why You Need Asiatica Centella in Your skincare
Centella Asiatica is also known as Gotu kola, or tiger grass has a long history in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine and is gaining popularity as an ingredient in skincare. It’s rich in amino acids, beta carotene, and fatty acids and has been found to calm inflammation, speed wound healing, stimulate new cell growth, build collagen, and improve circulation.
This government study ” found that “Centella Asiatica extract is an effective ingredient not only in antiaging cosmetics but also for improving skin hydration.” In addition, numerous other studies have shown its antioxidant properties can help revitalize the skin barrier and is great for wound healing.
As with any gee-whiz skincare ingredient, you can spend a little or a lot on the products and cost is no indication of quality. Since I’m already a big fan of the affordable Purito brand, I thought I would try their creams. Purito is a Korean skincare brand that makes eco-friendly formulations that are 100% cruelty-free, vegan, hypoallergenic, and incredibly affordable. ` I’ve used their Fermenting Complex 94Ā for several years and I love how it brightens and soothes my sensitive skin.
I layer the sleeping pack over my serums and Retin A at night. It feels like I am bathing my skin in moisture which it needs because I’ve bumped up to the strongest Retin A and my skin is flaking like mad. It’s loaded with lots of beneficial ingredients and leaves my skin incredibly hydrated. In the morning, I apply a lima-bean-sized amount of the recovery cream right before my sunscreen. As much as I love essential oils, these don’t include them or other irritating ingredients.

Q?: My current moisturizer, Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream, contains Centella Asiatica and is Byrdie certified as “clean.” I’m recently experiencing a reaction to the vegan reformulated Rich Cream so am on the hunt for a sensitive dry skin and fragrance free alternative. I have a VERY dry T-zone and normal elsewhere. Any recommendations?
Q?: Am curious about how the espadrilles with a tied ankle stay on the foot. Do they tend to skip off and/or require constant tightening throughout the day? Seeking answers as I’ve always wanted to try a pair.

The espadrille ties stay put for me. I switched to the Purito because everything seemed to be irritating my Retin A sensitized skin and this is soothing.
Iāve been tempted to try Augustinus Bader because the reviews are so promising.
The Purito is very pure. I think youād like it.

I worship Kate Spade. Many of my novelty bags are from her brand. (Replacements, in many cases from those lost in my house fire.) I also have several jewelry pieces. I am a devotee of whimsy.
Love a good hat but something about the ribbon not going all the way around the hat bugs me. Could it be wrapped all the way around before going into the holes or would that be too bunchy where the ribbon doubles back to fit in the holes? Or would it make the ribbon too small?
I love linen, but find that the linen clothing I buy tends to sit in the closet waiting for an iron (even if just a touch up!) I just canāt go with the āwrinkleā flow! I may try the Fermenting Complex 94; wouldnāt hurt to try, and the price is reasonable!
I love your outfit! I bought another sun hat a few months ago very similar to yours. Mine has a white tie and I found it very useful on my trip to Hawaii. I took 3 packable sunhats and so glad I took the one with the tie. It was great for the extra breezy days, while sightseeing and the other hats were good for around the resort and pool. I thought about getting some different grosgrain ribbon to use instead of the white tie and you just convinced me to do that.
Iāve been using Dr. Belmeur Cica Peptite Ampoule daily for about 2 years and it contains Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract. I really can feel the difference in my skin. It feels smoother and energized. It feels lighter than water. I apply it directly to my skin and then add my serums and moisturizers.

I like a touch of whimsy in a room but not on myself. Iām tall so classics work best for me. Your dress and espadrilles are pretty. You have so many pretty straw hats but I find the top of this hat too tall and the ribbon too precious.
This ingredient is new to me. Iāll need to check it out. You put it on top of your retinol and serum? What strength is your retinol?
I have bumped back up to the 0.1 Retin A so am needing more moisture than usual.
Thanks for the info on centella asiatica. I’m going to ask my doctor about using it. The brand you recommend is what I’m looking for in a cosmetic company. I like whimsy a little but mainly on others, if I’m honest. The Kate Spade bag is cute, but I have to have shoulder straps: I can’t stand having to hold something. I really like clamshell bag (Macy’s) as it’s actually wide enough to hold my stuff – LOL
I love the Purito Bb cream. I also enjoy all the Erborian Bb and Cc creams all of which include the Centella Asiatica. Iāve stopped using foundation and only use these for radiant, hydrating coverage on my 70 yr old face! Erborian is much pricier than Purito but lasts all day and can be purchased online through Ulta.

How do you use the Fermented Complex Formula 94 in combination with the other two products?
The fermented complex is a moisturizing essence. It feels just like water but itās so amazing. I splash that on right after washing both morning and night. When dry, I add everything op top of it.
