Cheetah and Maxi on Repeat

My daughter came for another fun visit last weekend. She’s a blast to spend time with and things are always more fun when she’s around. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw her in my stories, dancing down the aisle at the theater. Living so far from her is sad and times like this remind me of what I’m missing out on… regularly.

We met my sister-in-law and brother for an early dinner at the Cview Restaurant, in Qualicum beach. Itā€™s got a wonderful menu and great views of the ocean. Iā€™m still trying to figure out what was in the sauce I had on my chicken. Do you do that? Try to recreate things you’ve tasted at a restaurant?

My daughter didn’t expect us to be going out so only brought super casual clothes. Luckily Iā€™d done my laundry so she borrowed my maxi you Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Soma leopard sleep shirt as a dress with denim jacket

After dinner, we went to a play at the local playhouse. I love little theater but this show was so corny and hard to follow, we left at intermission. Something I never do.Jennifer and Vanessa Connolly of A Well Styled Life on Malispina

The next day we hopped a ferry to Gabriola Island. It’s filled with artists and galleries. Being the seasoned traveler I am, I decided our first stop should be Malaspina Galleries.

Malaspina Galleries turns out to be a rock formation. My footwear choice wasn’t the best for climbing on rocks but I didn’t turn an ankle which I consider a miracle success. The wind was intense so I was happy to have this jacket in the car. I bought this for our cruise last month and am shocked by what a valuable piece it is in my wardrobe.

We never did find galleries to tour but we did find some beautiful beaches. The ones we stopped at were all bedrock which keeps your shoes clean;)

We’ll be pulling up stakes and taking the ferry to Vancouver tomorrow. We’re spending a few days with these two before we start driving south. My daughter has some fun adventures planned for us which I’m looking forward to. Mostly, I’m just looking forward to being with her.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

  1. Jennifer, I am so sorry about Lucy. You did the best for her (always!), but that doesnā€™t stop the pain of losing a loving, constant companion.

    1. Thank you Deborah. Itā€™s still hard and I know it will continue to hurt for a while. She was just so sweet.

I love the top your sister in law is wearing. Do you know anything about it?

    Love your jacket too. Details?

Glad you are having a good visit on the Island. Hope that you also enjoy Vancouver. If you’re out of town a little there is a great Farm Circle tour. You go to a lot of farm stores and there are lots of fun things to sample and buy at those places. https://www.circlefarmtour.com/

    Have fun!

  3. Try the theatre in Chemainus. It’s great. We’re seeing Mamma Mia this weekend.

    1. Weā€™ll have to try it next time. Weā€™re off the island now and heading to Squamish.

  4. The cheetah makes a great basic. I think it is a wise choice to use it as a dress. After you get tired of it, then you got great pjs. It looks great on you.

So glad you are able to spend time with your daughter. Our son just moved to Michigan after being near us in NYC. It is very different when you need to plan your visits.

Instagram not showing anything and/or error message šŸ™

  7. Beautiful daughter. Looks like Uma Thurman. Iā€™m so jealous. Just guys in my life. Would love to have a daughter to do things with. Enjoy your time with her.

  8. I saw your daughter dancing on Instagram. I love how our young daughters bring that carefree fun into our lives. Mine lives in Ottawa, so I donā€™t see her as much as I would like. But, there is no way Iā€™m trading Vancouver Island weather for Ontarioā€™s hot, muggy summers and cold, snowy winters. Been there, done that. I would miss the ocean and mountains, the luscious gardens and fresh seafood, too. So I settle for twice a year visits and weekly FaceTime.
Enjoy Vancouver with your sweet, fun loving daughter!

Hi Jennifer – I am trying to find you on Instagram, but all the links result in broken “page not found”. Even those on your page. How can I “look” you up? Thanks!

  10. My maxi dress I love so much is a cotton pink, orange and white stripe. Itā€™s a halter dress and I bought it for a swimsuit coverup. Since I donā€™t have a special halter style bra, Iā€™ve been wearing it (often) with a denim jacket or a chambray shirt tied at the waist. To church, museums, out to eat. And feeling quite summery and fashionable, I must say.
Last time I wore it my husband said ā€œhmm, you should get a slip for that dress, more sheer than you realize.ā€ WHAAT! Now he tells me.

  11. I love that you are enjoying my part of the world.
I hope you are meeting lots of ā€œniceā€ Canadians!
    I love your outfits!

  12. She is beautiful and I have begun following her insta. She is a sweetheart. Enjoy your time together. I went to my daughters a couple of weeks ago and we had so much fun, casino, street festival and a day at the lake. It is a 6 hour drive so we donā€™t see each other often.

  13. I enjoy reading your travel posts. Your daughter is such a pretty girl and love that you two have such fun together. Look forward to reading about your Vancouver adventures. I told my husband ( who loves Seattle) that we are going to have to venture on to BC and see these places you are visiting.

  14. My husband’s family just had a sibling reunion at his sister’s in Reno. It was great to see everyone. We live in Washington state. One sister is in NV and one in Wyoming and a brother in Utah. So quite spread out. Luckily my kids live in Spokane so we get to visit often but you’d be surprised how busy they are! Enjoy your time together.

I have two Soma sleep shirts that I use as swimsuit cover-ups.
Love them and no one would ever guess they are supposed to be nighties.

  16. A fun and interesting post! Times with our daughters are truly special! Love the cheetah dress! Nightie?hmmmmm. Looks really great!
Have fun on the next leg of your journey…..

  17. Love hanging out with my daughter, too. Unfortunately, she lives in the UK and we see her even less than you see yours. šŸ™ Thank goodness for FaceTime and texting.

Love that Chicos cardi! It’s so hard to find a good summer sweater, and that one looks ideal.

  18. Have fun with your daughter Jennifer…..both of my girls live out of town and I miss them a lot at times. We were just in Seattle last week then drove up to Vancouver for a few days…..Love that area. Wondering how you have been since Lucy is gone? And are you thinking about getting another dog soon?

    Thank you for your blog!

    Beautiful pictures & interesting writing.
    Thank you.
    Where do u live?

    1. I live in California. I’m visiting Vancouver Island right now.

Thanks for the article,Jenn. July has been full with two separate visits from my lovely daughters and their kids. Full of beachhopping, amusement parks, visits to relatives and just hanging out . One daughter lives in Toronto, a 3 hour trip away. The other in Ottawa-Gatineau so with kids it’s a 9 to 10 hour trip . Our son is in Vancouver so we may see him on a stopover in Toronto at the end of summer. Love my kids but it is partially my fault they are so independent and live far away from us. When I got married I left home in Ontario to live out west in Alberta for 5 years. What goes around, comes around!
