Cool-toned Colors For Fall
Happy Thursday, ladies. We often think of pumpkin, camel, and other warm shades as the only colors that represent fall. That leaves women who prefer cool colors out in the cold…pardon the bad pun:) Today, I’m styling some cool-toned fall colors in rich shades of cabernet sauvignon, red syrah, and taupe, with fun jeans and some amazing black pants.
I’m honored once again to have this post sponsored by Nordstrom and ShopStyle Collective.
Wine, burgundy, and plum are plentiful this year, so I’m stocking up. I started with this Treasure & Bond v-neck that comes in three colors, sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing the red syrah in small and love it. This might be too intense for my coloring in a turtle or crew neck, but the V allows more skin to show, which helps tone down its impact.
The website suggests it runs large and to order one size down, but I did not find that to be the case because I like my sweaters roomy. I love that when you buy Treasure & Bond, Nordstrom will donate 2.5% of net sales to organizations that work to empower youth. These Cobblestone Earrings come in gold or silver and add a modern touch to any look at a great price.
I bookended the look with these super comfy, block-heel booties in cabernet sauvignon. They have a grippy, flexible sole and are waterproof, so perfect for the fall and winter. They come in medium and wide widths, sizes 6-12. Their oval toe is a timeless shape, so they won’t go in and out of style over the years.
These two wine colors are not exactly the same, but they coordinate beautifully because they’re both cool They both look great with gray, navy, and of course, black. I always wanted to try a pair of Spanx pants to see what all the hoopla was about, and now I know…they fit like a dream! These have a 28″ inseam and come in sizes 00-18. I am wearing a 6 and find they run true to size.
Then I popped the sweater over a classic poplin shirt with some fun jeans and taupe booties. These Blondo Waterproof booties come in four colors. I’m wearing the dark taupe, which is a great cool neutral. They have zippers on the outside and inside of the ankle, which I’m seeing on lots of booties this fall.
I added Monica Vinader mini nugget earrings and necklace. I love Monica Vinader because she uses only recycled gold vermeil and sterling silver and sustainably sourced natural gemstones, diamonds, and pearls in their designs.
My jeans are Kut From The Kloth, with a high rise, straight leg, and dark side stripe. I had jeans with a side (tuxedo look) stripe several years ago, which I loved. The stripe visually cuts off the outside 1/2″ inch from the waist to the ankle, which makes you appear slimmer. These are a smidge too long for me with a 28″ inseam, so it occurs to me I could hem the unfinished bottom or simply cut the bottom off. Hmm…what would you do?
SHOP THE POST
Nordstrom is my favorite department store for so many reasons, not the least of which is their incredible customer service with free shipping and returns, always. Joining the Nordy club here is free and allows you to earn points towards notes you can use to shop plus you get free basic alterations. They also offer BOPUS, ROTUS (reserve online, try on in-store), and curbside pickup.
What are your favorite cool shades for fall?
Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.
You look absolutely gorgeous in that color! These are my colors
Thanks, Sue
Thanks so much for this! These are my colours and appears to be yours too! I’d be tempted to cut off the extra length. I also agree with the comment about short pants in winter. Not so great for cold snowy winters. We have to wear socks with shoes and boots so ankle cut doesn’t work for me in winter.
They are the most flattering on my skin tone. I’ll keep that in mind about ankles
My cheeky warped sense of humour is coming out ….you wanted to know what to do with 28 inch inseam jeans…..and my warped sense of humour says ADD 2 Inches. I am sooooo tired of short pants….a 28 inch inseam is half way to my knee with lots of ankle hanging out….which is fine for Summer but not Fall or Winter. I am beginning to think that all Bloggers have short legs except that High Heels In The Wilderness has long legs and bonus she lives in Canada where we get Winter and cold ankles are just a bad idea. Bring on the 30 to 32 inch Inseam! Those with short legs can hem them
I agree. I’m really tired of short pants and my legs are average length 🙂
Love the fall colors that you showed us today! Which boot did you find to be most comfortable. I like the fact that they are both waterproof and so cute!
The Blondos are a tiny bit comfier, only because they are flat.
Hi. Beautiful colors! I’m confused tho—why do you consider wines, deep reds, as cool colors? They’ve always been considered warm colors to me
The base of these is blue, and cool based. There are deep reds with a warm undertone, but they look quite different.
Love your post today, clothes and colors. You look good in the “wine” lipstick color. I would leave the jeans with the fringe hem. They are a little different & the fit is great. Thanks for sharing. I especially like the wine colors♥️
I am loving those shades too 🙂
Love your fall look……
I love the whole range of cranberry & plum colors. The burgundy booties are especially attractive; however, I also like the sweater – wearing it over the white shirt gives it an extra pop. I’ve noticed some peacock blue colors showing up in catalogs. I’ve never tried that color, have you? I think the cool fall colors may look better on me now that my hair is mostly grown out to silver, but I need to try them on first.
Me too. I have tried that peacock blue color and love it as well.
I loved the outfits you showed today. I am frustrated that Nordstrom USA has shopped shipping to Canada. Unfortunately, most of the items you show, are not available in Canada. Also, after the last three years, many of my favourite US lines have closed their stores in Canada.
Anyway, thank you Jennifer for the time and energy you put into your blog. You have helped me develop my style and to build a wardrobe that I really enjoy wearing. Kudos to you and I hope you have a wonderful day.😘
That is frustrating, but hopefully, these will inspire you with ideas for outfits you can recreate.
Fall is my favorite season of the year. Love how nature adds such beautiful color to the earth. Love all the burgundy, gold, oranges, fall greens, browns a yellows.
Think the burgundy sweater
and booties were great.
Thanks for a wonderful blog (as always).
Mine too, Lin
Great post today! It’s nice to see the cool colors. I usually gravitate toward these. What color is your lipstick? It looks good on you and appears to be a good autumn color.
I’m wearing this -https://amzn.to/3E4DDEd
Love your outfits today and the colors. I get an error message when I try to open the lipstick link. I really like that color.
See if this one works-https://amzn.to/3E4DDEd
Hello
Love the cool tone fall post! Last year I “hemmed” two pairs of jeans,by simply measuring and cutting of the bottom. Turned out great and have that “raw” look.
Cheers
Candice
It’s sort or brilliant 🙂
I look best in cool tones so I gravitate to the deep berry, plum, and blue tones for fall. I purchased the sweater you’ve featured here at the Nordstrom sale at the end of the summer but have not had a chance to wear it yet. I’m going to give the Spanx pants a try. I too am interested to see what all the hype is about. If they work out I think they will be good for the office this fall/winter. How is the length on those, for you? BTW, I think you look cool in the raw hem jeans!
I think you’ll love them! I’m getting used to the raw hem look so they’re growing on me 🙂
This color sweater is beautiful. Love it!
Thank you for sharing.
That color is really pretty on you! I’m looking at a sweater from Chico’s and considering that shade. Happy Thursday! XO
Happy Thursday, Lisa!
Love everything about this post. The wine colored sweater looks awesome. I have kut from the cloth jeans and really like them. I have burgundy colored booties and you’d be surprised how much they go with.
I just adore this color! I’m so glad to rediscover it this fall 🙂
For the last two years, I have been mixing and matching wine, burgundy, cranberry, JJill fig, Eileen Fisher cassis, and some dark purples to great…and fun…effect.
I love the sound of those mixed together!!
The cranberry, plum, shiraz colors are great and plentiful this year, so I’ll probably replace several old sweaters while I can. I’m also looking at emerald green tops this year. Not sure about the jeans: I had pants hemmed earlier this year — adding $17 to the price makes for an expensive pair of jeans.
I love all these looks. They are appealingeveryday wear. wear.
Happy fall!
Great post. I really like the sweater over the white shirt. Guess I’ll have to try Spanx pants too. They look good on you!
You’ll be pleasantly surprised. They awesome.
Cranberry and camel(paired with black or various shades of blue) are my two go-to shades as we go into fall. The new jeweled green is pretty but I haven’t found the right top yet.
You look great in this berry shade too! Just about perfect for fall!
I just ordered that green in a cardigan and am anxious to try it!
Just a question about the sizing of the Treasure & Bond V-neck. You indicate that the website says it runs big and suggests to order one size up. Wouldn’t that make it even bigger??
I’ll have to fix that. I meant to order down!
