Curiosity Shop
Modeling in Chico’s fashion show last week was an interesting experience. I think I can say with total honesty that I am not runway material. Everyone in the store was psyched about this new collection and I saw lots of winners myself. I modeled leopard but zeroed in on navy after the show.
Here’s an outfit I snapped with some of the new things. As seldom happens, these all came home with me. The knit denim leggings are quite thick so feel more like slim pants than leggings.
The crisp white tunic is one of Chico’s new no-stain, no-iron shirts. I find the back of the neck of my white shirts is the hardest spot to keep clean. I spray mine with Shout and do all the things but they always end up yellowing. I’m anxious to see how this no-stain material holds up.
Here’s how I wore the outfit last weekend for a day of wandering around the old town Roseville. I loved the necklace but ended up wearing my
We ended up in a curiosity shop where people turn cast-off things into artwork. There were tons of things I wanted to bring home, which is goofy because I’m always trying to get rid of my clutter.
You can see the old singer sewing machine on the right behind me that they’ve made into a tractor sculpture. I loved the angel wings on the wall behind me and am still thinking they might look great on the wall of my office.
It was almost too warm for this ruana but because it’s cotton and polyester, it worked well. I love ruana’s because they stay put better than a straight wrap yet serve the same purpose. These leggings will tuck into riding boots later this winter and the ruana will go over a heavier sweater making these great pieces to wear now and later.
Do you wear ruanas?
Thanks for reading and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.
Love your site Jennifer. I live in Wellesley Mass
and when Chicos left, a lot of us were so sad.
I now live in Marblehead Mass, a beautiful coastal
community and you have to travel to get to
the nearest Chicos. I wish they would come here
Think they would do well.
My friends all say I am a real fashionista?! I was a
runway model in hs and college. I am now retiring
from a long career in Interior Design and along the
way have done a little fashion styling for people.
So all things re style appeal to me.
My friends marvel that at 5’10 with a long torso
I can find things to fit at Chicos without alterations!
Keep on doing what you are doing Jennifer. Love
your honesty!
The picture of you standing sideways with your sunglasses on top of your head and hair behind your ears is so pretty. Your hair colour is perfect!
Get the wings!!! Love this look on you!!!
Oh joy! Chico’s deliver to Australia. Just ordered the non stain white shirt…white always seems to attract an ‘accident’ so… It looks good &stylish on you.
That’s awesome! I didn’t know they delivered to Australia. These no stain shirts fight “the accident”;)
I love ruanas and wear them often! But this has to be one of my favorite looks for you. The blue is perfect and it just says so many positive messages. You look great in it!
Thanks so much, Pam, I love navy;)
Jennifer, are the pants petite?
No these are a small in regular
HALLELUJAH for a focus on Chico’s. I’d be so happy if you would do these regularly. You look great in every outfit. The angel wings from the Curiosity Shop are terrific. Get them before they are gone. : ) Looking forward to getting a ruana. Love that you showed us several ways to wear it.
I’m going back this weekend so see if they’re still there. If they are, they’re meant to be mine;)
I agree? Get the wings! I bought a pair of angel wings several years ago and they always find a place over my mantel at Christmas. I thought they would be nice over our bed ( guardian angel sort of thing) but my hubby was having no part of that idea. Lol
You’re hilarious! That’s the same “wing” conversation we had!!
It’s a lovely outfit and looks really nice on you.
I bought my first ruana this summer at target – a pale blue-gray. I feel like Linus – in a good way – like I’ve found a way to secretly wear my snuggly security blanket but it’s really fashion.
I love it that ruanas are in style. They’re feminine and practical. I plan to get a couple for the fall/winter..
I’m loving the navy color of this wrap. I don’t own one now although I have made one before and gave it away. I just didn’t feel comfortable with it on. My SIL looks fabulous in hers and it fits her style. I think to throw a wrap over your shoulder or a big scarf for that matter takes a little boldness I don’t have.
I find a Ruana less bold than a wrap because you can just wear it down. Tossing over the shoulder is a little more attention getting. That’s said, we have to wear what makes us feel confident.
I like ruanas and always take when on a trip, especially flying. They serve as a blanket and then my wrap to make me look more out together upon arrival.
Question. Have you washed the leggings? Any shrinkage? Cold water only?
They’re perfect for flying! I haven’t washed the leggings yet but I always wash on cold.
I have 1 ruana and plan to add at least one more this year. Being in the north they are great for fall and spring when we need something heavier. Let us know how the no stain white shirt works out! I really like the length of this one on you!
I will be report back. It generally takes a full season before I have a problem.
Love the look of the ruana’s but wish they would make them in petite! I’m 5′ and they are so long I look like I’m playing dress up ! You look great in the navy!
Yes! I read somewhere that ruanas were passe, but I totally disagree. I have eight of them and I wear them all the time here in the South when the weather gets cool. They are perfect for travel AND for snuggling with grand babies! My two favorites are a fabulously soft fringed, gray cashmere and a Pendleton wool in beautiful autumn colors.
They’re not passé in my wardrobe either. I’m drooling over the sound of your gray cashmere one.
I’m enjoying all the navy blue options we have this year! I love that ruana. When you wrapped it around your shoulders did It stay in place? I hadn’t thought of doing that with my ruana’s but love the look!
Yes it did. The faux suede front edge seems to stick on my shoulder.
