Happy Friday ladies! Today I’m sharing dressing room diaries from the Banana Republic. This is where I try on different pieces for you to see how they look on a real woman over 50 instead of the rail thin, very young models that brands use. There’s no question that stripes are trending and Banana Republic has a terrific selection…many of it 40% off.
Sadly, my local store was cleaned out of most things in my size so nothing I am showing fit and many things wouldn’t even zip.
It’s fully lined, as all white dresses should be, and has 2 pockets on the side godet of the skirt. I have narrow hips and love pockets so the extra volume they give is a good thing for me. They help keep the dress from looking fussy and too formal. I’m wearing a regular and needed the petite, 3 sizes larger! It also comes in tall. This dress would be great all summer for casual or more dressed up options.
This gingham racer back dress was so small I could barely show it to you. This is a regular length but it’s 4 sizes too small so the back is not zipped and it’s fitting me like a sausage casing.
This dress has a lined bodice and unlined skirt. It’s black and white check is small enough for a petite woman and available in petite, regular and tall. It’s a very light breezy fabric that flows nicely around the legs.
I adored this striped handkerchief hem dress!
It’s a deep navy blue stripe. The fitted bodice and flares from the waist seam to a midi length with a contrasting stripe at the hemline. The ponte knit fabric is a substantial weight so the dress hangs beautifully. I am wearing the regular length, 3 sizes too small for me. It also comes in petite and tall.
There is not enough Spanx in the world for me to zip this striped dress up but I wanted to share it with you because I loved it.
It’s a bold blue and white stripe in a substantial ponte knit. I love the 3/4 sleeves and shape. It’s meant to be figure hugging but not the strangled look I’m showing. I needed this dress 3 sizes larger. It only comes in regular and tall, which is fine because I like this regular length.
The skirt is a super stretch poplin and so perfect for hot weather. It’s a high waist style that is fitted through the hips then flares with two softly ruffled tiers. I topped it with a super lightweight linen and cotton shirt, tied at the waist. I love the contrast of structured shirt with a ruffled skirt. This would look pretty dressed up with a knit top as well.
This striped shirt has dramatically contrasting wide stripes and a shirttail hemline.
The fabric is silky and semi-sheer with classic shirttail styling. I love that the stripes begin below the shoulders and line up perfectly down the front. Prison stripes came to mind but not enough to keep me from liking it. I think it would look great tied at the waist over white trousers or jeans or even over a white dress.
These girlfriend side stripe jeans are a great fit and the dark sides make them look very slimming.
The jeans are intended to be cropped but I prefer the length of these regulars. It also means the rise is higher for me which I always appreciate. I am wearing them with this very soft cotton shirt with lemon print. Lemons and yellow are trending these days so you can find them everywhere. They’re fresh and fun for summer.
