Dressing Room Diaries: A Few New Finds At Loft

It feels like ages since I checked out Loft, so I popped in for two visits last week. I was happy to see most of the Valentine’s Day hearts gone and had fun trying on a few new finds at Loft for you. Green is very popular for spring at many retailers, and I don’t think it’s just in honor of the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day.

If youā€™re new here, welcome! A dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session to see whatā€™s new and show you how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 143 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

Many of Loft’s pants come in a curvy or straight (regular) fit…plus they carry many items in petite and tall. If I’m showing something in petite, it likely also comes in reg and perhaps tall.

TEXTURED SWEATER JACKET size S / CUFFED HIGH RISE WIDE LEG CROP size 28

Large cuffs are certainly having a moment and a fun trend to try from an inexpensive brand. These pants are intended to be cropped, but this 27″ inseam is ankle length on me. They have a high rise and wide leg, so there’s a lot going on, but I think they’re a fun concept. This 28 is roomy on me, so I’d size down.

With this much volume below, I went with this slim-fit sweater jacket on top that hits just below the waist. It has a “Lady Jacket” vibe with large gold buttons and an all-over, soft textured knit. The green is fresh-looking for spring, and I’m guessing they may bring it out in other colors because it’s a great little piece.

(LIGHTER WASH) CUFFED HIGH RISE JEANS size 28 petite / GIRLFRIEND CARDIGAN size S / STRIPED HARBOR TEE size M

Here are similar large cuff jeans in petite, which, surprisingly, I prefer on me. It looks right to have some ankle showing with this style. This mid-wash seems sold out, so I’ve linked it to the pale wash. I think if you’re going to try a trend like this, you should sample different proportions until you find the one that pleases your eye.

I’m styling these with this striped tee in a gorgeous periwinkle color and a pretty cotton cardigan that coordinates. The tee says “merci” across the front and is in a nice heavier-weight cotton like I’m used to seeing in Breton tops. This girlfriend cardigan comes in 5 colors with a relaxed fit they label “just short of loose”. Obviously, you get to control that by the size you buy, and I recommend your regular size.

OVERSIZED EVERYDAY SHIRT size M / HIGH-RISE STRAIGHT JEANS size 28P

I love this oversized everyday shirt in “summer green”. I’m wearing a regular, but even in petite, it’s long enough to cover your backside, making it great to wear over white jeans, slim pants, and leggings. It’ll also work as a bathing suit coverup. It runs true to size and also comes in white. It’s one of those wardrobe staples you will have for years to come.

I’m wearing it over these high-rise straight jeans in a nice mid-wash. I tend to like lighter washes as the season progresses. These have a 12 1/2″ rise in regular and a 12 1/4″ rise in petite.

LOU & GREY WINDBREAKER JACKET size S / WANDERWEAVE PANTS size S / ELBOW SLEEVE TEE size S

Here’s another green for spring. They call this “silver palm”, but it’s green to me. The color looks closer to mint on the website, but I found it closer to a pale leaf color. Lou & Grey has several pieces you can mix and match in this shade. This windbreaker is water-repellant and has a bungee cord drawstring to adjust at the bottom. It also comes in “cosmic hibiscus,” which is a bright, happy color.

I’m wearing this elbow-sleeve tee under the jacket in whisper-white, and it also comes in the same silver palm color. These pants come in 4 shades, including a match for the jacket. They’re a woven, wrinkle-resistant stretch fabric that looks more polished than sweatpants and would be perfect for travel.

MIXED MEDIA COTON HOODIE size S / V-NECK TEE size M / PIN TUCK WIDE LEG SCUBA PANTS size S

Here’s another set in the same green shade so you can see there are lots of options to mix and match.

TEXTURED SADDLE SLEEVE SWEATER size S regular / DEEP SPACE BLUE FAUX LEATHER PANTS size 28 regular

This textured sweater is really soft and comfy. The saddle sleeve is a nice change from the typical drop shoulder I see everywhere. I’m wearing the Peri color, and it comes in a pretty pink, deep blue, or soft white. It’s a cotton/acrylic blend that’s perfect for spring.

I’m wearing it with these faux leather pants that are incredibly soft. They come in this regular (straight) cut, curvy, petite, and tall in 6 colors. I think I’ve mentioned before that Loft makes very nice faux leather, and the price is awesome for the quality. These pieces are classic shapes that won’t go out of style any time soon.

GIRLFRIEND JEANS IN CLASSIC INDIGO DARK WASH size 29 regular / STRIPED RELAXED TEE size S / HOUNDSTOOTH CROPPED JACKET size S

Another cuffed jean look, this time, just the hem folded up. If you have very long legs, you could skip this styling…however, every pair on the rack was folded like this. I love the super dark wash of these jeans that have a hint of stretch. The rise is 10 1/2″, which is high for some people but not the super high rises I’m seeing in wider leg styles.

As an aside, I’ve been spotting more and more low-rise jeans of late, and I’m just never going there. I hated them the last time they were in style, and don’t find them flattering on anyone over 15.

This little striped T has the word Amour on the front in the same shade as the jacket. It’s 100% cotton in a short, boxy shape. This Houndstooth jacket is styled with a band at the bottom, much like a denim jacket. The classic houndstooth looks fresh and modern in this bright magenta color. It has an oversized fit with dropped shoulders, which would be great for a woman with narrow shoulders looking to add some width up top.

FRINGE TWEED JACKET size S regular / DRAPED SLEEVE SWEATER size S regular /
RIVIERA SLIM PANT size 8 regular

These are, hands down, my favorite pants at Loft. They make this Riviera pant every season in a multitude of colors. This pair is a bit large on me because I grabbed the wrong size. I usually wear a 6 regular in these pants because they tend to stretch with wear, and the petite is a hair too short for me. (They also come in tall) This season, there are seven colors, with more to come. The fabric feels like an upscale chino that’s perfect for spring right through the summer.

This little tweed jacket is the prettiest shade of blue that looks so fresh this time of year. It has more punch than a pastel but is just as soft-looking. Its cropped length is perfect to wear over wider-leg pants or jeans. Surprisingly, this is machine washable.

I styled it over this pretty little sweater in the same color. The website description of this sweater leaves me scratching my head. It references a draped sleeve, which makes zero sense because the sleeve is set in and not draped anywhere. They also call it striped, and none of the three colors are striped. I also like the pretty pistachio-like green shade that they call jade.

LOU & GREY HALF ZIP SWEATER size S / HIGH RISE STRAIGHT LEG JEANS size 28P

This half zip sweater is also a shade of green but it looks bright aqua on the website. It’s very soft and a nice weight for spring. This would be nice layered over a striped tee as they show on the website or just worn alone.

STRIPED V-NECK SAILOR SWEATER size S / PIN TUCKED HIGH RISE STRAIGHT JEANS size 28

This little striped sweater runs large, so I would definitely size down. It’s a very soft cotton blend with 6% spandex, which is a lot for a sweater. It’s off-white with an olive-colored stripe. I’m seeing a lot of polo collars on sweaters for spring, so this is right on trend. It also comes in a pretty shade of pink here.

These ecru jeans have a nice pin tuck down the front and a 12 1/2″ rise. They’re meant to be fitted through the hip and thigh but are one size too large for me. They have a very straight leg and enough stretch to be comfy. They label this a vintage fit.

TIPPED RIBBED SWEATER JACKET size S

This little ribbed sweater with edge detailing has definite Chanel vibes. It has an all-over ribbed knit with gold buttons and dark piping along the front, collar, and pockets. The piping is such a dark color that I couldn’t tell if it was black or deep navy, so it would work with either. It comes in petite, but this regular length works best on my long arms and torso.

Is the wide cuff something you might try?

I’m also curious if you’ve been wearing the “lady jacket” style this year.

  1. Love the lady jacket trend and I added a few to my wardrobe this year. So classy and classic looking.
Not a huge fan of the wide turned up hem. It just seems like it cuts the overall length look down. I like to make my legs look longer even though Iā€™m 5ā€™8ā€ already. I also feel like itā€™s so trendy I wouldnā€™t want to invest too much in the look.

  2. Love these outfits on you. You look so good. Thanks again for special c!others that look awesome on us mature gals and how we can look great too!

  3. So appreciate your Dressing Room Diaries, Jennifer as find them extremely helpful. As to answering your questions; a) A ‘no’ to the wide cuff bottom hemline as just doesn’t appeal to me personally. b) Also a ‘no’ for the ‘lady jacket’ as prefer a Chanel style rather than a knitted type however did purchase a hybrid of sorts in winter outer wear that is similar in esthetic/cut/design (polished/cropped/buttoned) as well as a shacket (has large chest pockets which BTW I have found beneficial when shopping to slip my reading glasses in rather than fish through my purse or loose them which I’ve done on three occasions now. Lesson learned … lol!) -Brenda-

  4. Great try on. That green sweater is lovely on you. I like the look of a lady jacket but I steer clear of anything with chest pockets. As usual the styles I love are in colors I can’t wear. I purchased a pair of straight leg ankle jeans with 3″ cuffs and immediately cut the tacking strips and steamed the jeans which are now a perfect length for me. The 3″ cuff made my legs looks short. I think the wide cuff works better on a wide leg crop in soft denim.

  5. I love the light blue lady jacket and sweater on you with the light pants. I will pass on the wide cuffed look and the chest pockets as I am short and busty. I love seeing all of these clothes on you. They look great. I will never wear low rise pants or jeans. I agree with you, ugly on women who want to look 15 again. I want to look great at 79 not try to look like a teenager.

  6. Jennifer, after having the same ‘ mini blobs’ frozen off my face twice, over several years only to return, a different doctor suggested an alternative approach. He used a bit of freezing and scraped off the wee bumps very close to my left eye. I was so impressed with his care around my tear duct. Looking less gruesome than I thought , and will be back for a check up next month. Age ‘barnacles’ are different and very unwelcome, but they do respond to freezing well, and seem to appear overnight ! Another pleasure of growing older, I guess!
Looks like stripes are here to stay. Luckily, I already have some beautiful cashmere and cotton versions in colours that suit me… from LLBEAN years ago.

    1. Those “barnacles” are such a pain!!

  7. I will pass on the cuffed pants, as they seem to make one look shorter. I think they look too casual for most tops. I do like the lady jackets, I have one with stripes. I don’t like the low rise pants , just so uncomfortable.

I had that skin treatment done during covid when we were wearing masks, and not really going anywhere. I wanted to hide. I had just a little spot on side of my nose. Doctor never told me how bad it would be. I thought it took some time to heal as well. I have been lucky, I grew up in hot muggy south Texas and it was too hot to be in the sun, and no beach or pools around. I also think wearing makeup saved my skin pretty much.

    1. These are on the end of my nose and right over my eye so they’ll be pretty visible.

  8. I might be in trouble. I love everything, especially the lady jackets. At 71, Iā€™m entering the world of (dog) confirmation showing for the 1st time, where typically people get quite dressed up. Iā€™m not normally a dress person, especially when lifting a 30lb dog onto and off a table, so am thinking a lady jacket and a nice pair of pants would be a nice compromise. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Way to go!! My mom and I did a little bit of showing with a few of the dogs she bred and it was a lot of fun.

  9. I think Iā€™m going to pass on the wide cuff style. It just looks like your jeans are too long so you rolled them up. Also, they seem very casual like you are going to the beach, not something I would wear out on an everyday errand basis. I would like to try the trouser style jeans with the pin tuck front.
I havenā€™t been wearing the lady jacket but do love the look.
Iā€™m sorry you have more lesions. You are so careful – staying out of the sun, wearing sunscreen and hats. My husband uses that cream and it is nasty but does the job.

  10. Oh my! The blue jacket & shirt & the teal sweater are so pretty on you! They are definitely some of your best colors, along with the new red sweater you have too. I canā€™t get into the wide cuffed pants. Iā€™m tall & could easily pull it off, but I think it looks silly & itā€™s not a flattering style, especially with the wider pants leg. I also like LOFT for fun tees. I loved this post!

    1. They do have lots of fun tees. The stripe one is a great quality.

  11. Great try on session! I’m not really a fan of the large cuffed jeans but love that green is in for spring ā˜˜ļø love the half zip sweater and lighter colored jeans on you!

  12. AT always has nice spring colors, but I am so over metallic buttons. Everybody is showing them on lady jackets, and I’m longing for plain — plain buttons, fewer buttons, and no decorative ones. Since you asked, I think big cuffs on pants are for kids going fishing LOL — and are a fad I’m going to pass on. They are disposable, fast fashion and make our legs look short …

    1. Youā€™re right those buttons are everywhere!

    2. I agree with you on the buttons. If they are the first thing you notice, it’s a NO for me. So distracting.

  13. What adorable outfits today, love the jackets and love the green! I like the cuffed look on the pant.

    1. Iā€™m so tempted to try a pair. I wouldnā€™t have thought so until I tried them on. Iā€™ll start by just folding up a pair of straight ones I already own.

  14. I just might have to get the houndstooth jacket! Really cute and it will be nice for late spring to dress up or down. I don’t usually go for boob pockets, but I may make an exception in this case. Thanks for trying on all of these clothes for us! (So agree with you about the puzzling website descriptions and colors that aren’t true… Loft needs to do a better job.)

    1. lol, those pockets always puzzle me. What do they think weā€™re putting in them? šŸ¤£

  15. Great try ons! I like the wide cuff on wider jeans and will try them. Iā€™ve always liked the lady jacket shape on my short big busted torso. The set in sleeves are best on me and that shape jacket is great with wider bottoms. I pulled a few lady jackets out of the archives to wear. The gold buttons on all of the current styles get a meh from this silver wearer butI can deal.

    1. Ditto, I prefer silver buttons but we seem to be going through a gold phase.

  16. My goal for this year is to be very deliberate about any new clothing purchases. I have to be honest. I continue to reach for certain pieces over and over. My preferred styles and colors have finally become more apparent to me. This was not an overnight revelation either.
So I will pass on the deep cuffed pants, low rise jeans or cropped tops.
I appreciate and learn so much from your try on sessions. I can easily see what I like and what I will avoid. Thank you!

    1. Iā€™m glad these are helpful.

  17. Great pieces today! You look great in all of them.

  18. Please let us know how it goes with your skin treatment with the Fluorouracil cream. Iā€™ve done it twice, but years and years ago. Not fun at all. Now the doc says I need to do it again. Yup, sun damage from teenage and early adult years. What were we thinking!
BTW the treatment nowadays need be only 5-7 days instead of 21 days. You mix in equal amount of Calcipotriene cream ( RX only) and then apply. This cream jumpstarts the process. Obviously not the correct explanation ha. Ask your doctor about this. It is a bit pricey, though no need to have it compounded which is really pricey. You just mix equal parts on hand and then apply.
    Good luck!

    1. I will ask her! Thank you so much.

      1. Forget to say you apply it twice a day.

      2. Thanks

  19. Jennifer, that half-zip sweater in that green color is stunning on you. It is my favorite look today. As for the cuffed pants and the “lady jacket” style, I will probably pass on these trends. At 5’1″ the pants would make me look shorter, right? And since I have a full bust, the jacket might emphasize that part of my body. What do you think?

    1. I agree on the pants but the lady jackets would work depending on the cut and detailing. Skip chest pockets.

  20. the blue jacket and chino is beautiful on you!
I love the wide cuff look. I do love the lady jacket
but to hot for Florida weather.
