Dressing Room Diaries: Texture and Pattern
Happy Friday ladies. The laundry is done from my trip to Japan, my suitcase is stowed away and just like that, we’re back to our regularlyĀ programmed schedule. Today’s dressing room diaries is a big one. Nordstrom had tons of new things which I had a blast trying on for you.
This sweater has peekaboo open work which was more than I’m comfortable showing so I wore this satin blouse beneath it for modesty. The sweater is a warm pink, almost peach in a soft slouchy shape.
Here is the satin blouse from under the sweater in “Bliss Pink”. It’s a great basic in 16 colors in regular and petite. I need the petite so the V is not too low. These jeans are by Mavi and have a small sprinkling of crystals and pearls below the front pockets. They have a high rise and fit very well. They have a 27″ inseam which is a perfect length for me:) #petitebenefits. I topped this look with this cute cotton notched collar jacket. It comes in several colors, plus here. I opted for ivory because I love the pop of brightness this time of year.
TWIST FRONT PULLOVERĀ / HIGH RISE JEANSĀ / SHOES
I loved this sweater in all 10 colors. I am wearing a petite medium in Lavender. The regular length put the twist too far down my hips which looked bulky and overpowered my 5’4″ frame.
Did you know Sam Edelman makes clothes? These are their Stiletto High Rise Skinny Jeans which have a 10 1/2″ frontĀ rise!Ā Yay, I love that for muffin top control. They have plenty of stretch, are well priced and fit like a dream.
This sweater is super soft and cozy, plus here. It comes in 2 colorways, this is the antique white. I love the loopy fringe and stripe effect. It runs large so order one size down. These velour leggings are so comfy I didn’t want to take them off, plus here. They have classic 5 pocket styling but pull-on. These are so comfy they’d be perfect for Thanksgiving;)
This popcorn sweater from Boden is in a soft cotton and wool blend, with classic shaping. I loved it but the sleeves were miles too long on me. Unfortunately,Ā it doesn’tĀ come in petite.
This classic blouse had me at black with white polka dots. It has a bow tie neck which I prefer untied. This is the regular length, I’d prefer the petite version but over these leggings, this length works.
Here the look is topped with the Ivory jacket from above.
Clearly, this pictureĀ was taken at a crazy angle which makes my legs look non-existent. This is a great pull-on skirt,Ā plus here, that’s flattering and a budget-friendlyĀ alternative to this Eileen Fisher skirt which I wear often. It’s ponte knit so would travel well and work for casual or dressy occasions. It comes in regular and petite, whichĀ would be a more flattering length on me.
This cardiganĀ is a cashmere and wool blend that’s super soft. It runs large so size down. I’m wearing the regular length and it also comes in petite in 5 colors. I needed a size down and perhaps the petite, although I do like long sweaters to actually be long. This plaid top was very cute but a disaster for me in every size I tried. It’s meant to be worn out but I finally tucked it in and liked the proportion better. I think it’s just too boxy for my inverted triangle shape so would flatter a woman with a curvier figure, but size down.
This NYDJ pleat back blouse comes in over 20 colors. I’m wearing the “Rose Garden Pacific Grove” pattern. This is a regular medium which overwhelmed me so I did a half-tuck to give it some shape. I’d need to either tuck in fully or half-tuck the petite too because I have a pretty straight figure. These are the Marilyn High Rise straight jeans by NYDJ in the “Cooper” wash. I prefer the regular version which has a 10 1/4″ rise to the petite which has a 9 1/2″ rise. The higher the rise the better the muffin top control and Nordstrom hems for free! (be sure to preshrink first and bring back for hemming)
I loved this draped front top. The ruching helps hide a multitude of sins and it looks elegant. It comes in regular and petite. They say it runs true to size but I would size up because of the smooth fabric. I also need the petite version. It comes in 5 colors.
This is the Nic+Zoe Relation cardigan and oh how I loved it. Sadly, they only had one on the floor which swam on me. I am wearing an XL and likely need a small. It’s soft and cuddly with great texture that makes it perfect for cool weather.
My obsession with gray continues with this asymmetrical faux shearling vest. It’s cozy and perfect for layering when temperatures drop. I am wearing a medium over the same twist front top from above, which I love because it gives tummy coverage.
SHOP THE POST
Remember you can favorite items to be notified when they get marked down…if you’re willing to gamble they still have the size and color you want;)
Whew…I came home with a few of these, then ordered a few more as I was writing this post. I highly recommend taking selfies of yourself in outfits. The photo’s give you a great perspective you just can’t get by looking in the mirror.
I guess I should have asked you about the velour leggings before I ordered them! Do they run true to size or small? I usually do not wear that brand and just wondered how they fit. They look very comfortable as you said. Help!
They seem to run true to size so hopefully they will fit you. If there’s any problem at all with the fit, Nordstrom has free shipping and returns so you can easily exchange them. Let me know how it goes. I love them
Well thanks for your reply! I usually wear an XL so I ordered XL and XXL just to make sure. They look very comfortable. I will let you know how they work out!
That draped front top is awesome! Thanks for sharing these pieces.
The clothes look better on you than on the Nordstrom site. Teal top is the best.
Thanks Sandy, thatās so kind. I loved that teal but then I found the pink on the website. So pretty.
The draped front jersey top HAD to be one that came home/was ordered by you …. right??
I did, in the pink;)
I like the embellishment on the first pair of jeans and the drape front top is lovely. The loopy fringed sweater is also a favourite.
That sweater is so very soft. I loved too many things this week.
A tie for my favourite: the dark green ruched tip which is classic and suits you very well and the lavender top which is prwtty and feminine with a capital F.
I have the Vince Camuto top in blue, and it is so versatile.
I love the pink slouchy sweater on you, but it looks so different in the Nordieās picture….the neckline is so much bigger and the length looks shorter in the front.
Great collection of different styles and colours. Thanks for the fashion show.
My pleasure. Itās so fun to try new things on.
I love that twist front top and have it in gray. I think need another color. Also love the faux shearling vest, but it’s too short for me. š
My favourite was the draped front top. It would be very flattering on most everyone. My next favourite was the loopy sweater. It is a little different and I know you like clothes with a little something, something. I do, too! The Nic & Zoe long cardigan is a winner, as are the jeans.
I found the rest to be boring, even frumpy. Iām curious as to what you bought or would buy.
Wow – so much to love in this post! Heading to Nordies tomorrow!
My hands down favorite outfit is the ivory jacket with the pink blouse. My preferred silhouette and the jacket gets good reviews. Love the colors offered in both pieces.
Love the draped front top- looks great on you!
Your smile gives it away. This was fun!
It was fun????
