Early Fall 2024 Try-On at Talbots

It took me several trips to capture these outfits for you, so you will see me with longer and shorter hair. New things seem to be arriving daily, but I can’t wait for the entire fall collection to put this post out, or I’ll be back to longer hair 😉

A try-on is when I go into a store and style their latest collection so readers can see what’s new and get some ideas for how they could wear it. I’m not shopping for myself and seldom buy clothes because I prefer to shop online. My hair gets pretty trashed, and I’m often barefoot. For size reference, I’m 5’4″, which puts me on the cusp of petite. I have wide shoulders and straight hips with no obvious curves. Talbots is a size-inclusive brand that carries clothes in sizes misses, petite, plus, and plus petite to 3X.

TEXTURED DOUBLE BREASTED BLAZER size 8P / TIE NECK SHELL size PM / SLIM ANKLE JEANS size 8P

There’s quite a lot of this pretty blush pink in Talbots right now. I don’t typically think of pink as a fall color, so it’s a refreshing look. This tweed blazer is beautifully tailored with gold-tone buttons and flap pockets. It’s fully lined and also available in ivory. The tie-neck shell is as classic as can be with a pussycat bow tie and ruffles at the neck. I dressed these down with some slim-ankle jeans in natural. They have classic 5-pocket styling with a touch of stretch. I would consider these more of a straight, not slim-leg.

TEXTURED V-NECK CARDIGAN size PM / TIE NECK SHELL size PM / SLIM ANKLE JEAN 8P

These are what I would consider slim-leg jeans. I wish Talbots would include more measurements in their clothing descriptions…but I digress. Many of you may be happy to learn that skinny jeans are beginning to come back. This slim leg will give you the look without the strangled calf feel which bothers a lot of us. I swapped the blazer for this v-neck cardigan, which has French lady vibes to me. It’s a great transitional sweater in 100% cotton to wear now and into fall. The cardi also comes in black with white banding.

TEXTURED TWEED SWEATER DRESS size M /

Readers have been asking for knee-length dresses, and Talbots always delivers. This cute tweed sweater dress also has Chanelish vibes with its tweed texture and contrast banding up the front and across the pockets. This misses is 36″ and the petite is 34″ long. This dress strikes me as very wearable, either for dinner out, work, or running around with white tennies and a denim jacket.

TWEED JACKET size 8P / SLIM STRAIGHT ANKLE JEANS size 10P / EMBELLISHED CREWNECK TEE size MP /

This hip length tweed jacket is classic Talbots for fall. The blue and white braid trim really pops against the blue tweed, which has tiny snippets of pink woven in. I’m wearing it over a navy embellished tee and the slim-leg jeans again. This jean shape is a classic for Talbots, and I predict it will be very popular this fall. I also love them in this toasted coconut color. Talbots always offer classic and on-trend denim, so you can dabble in new styles or wear the classics.

MORE FALL 2024 DENIM STYLES AT TALBOTS

DENIM MIDI SKIRT size 8 / POINTELLE SLEEVE SWEATER size S

Skirts are always part of the fall lineup at Talbots. This midi skirt is totally on trend and easy to walk in because of the front slit. It would be a much better proportion for me in petite, but my store did not stock it. This has classic 5-pocket styling and stretch in the fabric. This misses is 30″ long, and the petite is 27″. The v-neck sweater is a lightweight cotton blend that comes in 3 colors. The sleeves have pointelle stitching, which gives it a slight feminine vibe

FAUX LEATHER PENCIL SKIRT size 8P / V-NECK SWEATER size S / LAKE TREE BLAZER SIZE 10

This pencil skirt is a better length for me in petite. It’s a soft, faux leather that is 25.5″ in this petite and 28″ in misses. This fabric has a lot of stretch and feels very comfy. They describe this as knee length, which will obviously vary with your height. This plaid blazer is gorgeous. It’s an ivory with black pattern with black braid trim along the edges that gives it an elegant feel. It’s below hip length means I need the petite option more than ever in this jacket. This would be great over jeans or dressed up for work and fancier occasions. This misses is 27″ long and the petite is 25.5″ long.

AIRKNIT STRETCH COWL TANK size MP / AIRKNIT STRETcH PANTS size MP / AIRKNIT DOLMAN SLEEVE JACKET size M

These 3 pieces are part of Talbots’ new AirKnit travel collection. These seem similar to the Spanx travel sets that are so popular. The fabric is a double knit with 4% spandex so they’ll maintain their shape and have plenty of stretch. It’s got a smooth finish so it would dress up as well as be casual.

This tank also comes in black. The pants come in ivory, black, or a gorgeous coffee bean color that looks great with the ivory. They have wide legs with pintuck seam down front which gives them some shape and polish. The short jacket comes in black or a bright orchid. This collection has lots of shapes and colors, which I can see mixing and matching for lots of outfits.

TWILL CROP JACKET size MP / CREWNECK TEE size S / RELAXED CHINOS size 8P / PLATFORM SANDALS

This lightweight twill jacket is a great piece to transition into fall. It’s a cotton/modal/spandex blend with a petite-friendly length that will work well with wide-leg pants. I paired it with this striped crew neck tee and classic relaxed chinos. These chinos come in 9 colors, and I’m wearing “sand”. The tee has a button detail at the collar and comes in 4 color options.

Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. My favorite was that black and ivory plaid blazer. That is a really nice blazer that could really add to a wardrobe!

  2. I’m glad that slim leg pants are coming back. I’m too short for wide leg pants; they make me look like a rectangle.

  3. Thanks for the array of items. Do you have information on the nude flat sandals in the first few photos?
    Thanks

  4. I love that first outfit on you! Pretty!

    1. My husband did too. Thanks

  5. I was looking at the AirKnit stretch cowl tank in the Talbots catalog..looking at your picture, does the cowl feel like it gets too chunky? I ended up purchasing a very similar top at Nordstrom Rack, but the cowl isn’t as pronounced. The twill jacket I just love..I get so torn over new clothes that are similar to perfectly good clothes that I already have. Do you give away the older models, so to speak, and replace with newer/similar? I’m good at donating but there are some items that are classic and I love..it’s something I struggle with.. Love all the pink but doubt if I’d purchase..doesn’t work with my lifestyle…….have a great weekend.

    1. I donate because otherwise I end up with too many duplicates. I’m happier with a smaller wardrobe.

  6. I also loved the pink on you especially with the cardigan. Very feminine. I also like your hair both longer and shorter. I finally have gone 24 hours without a fever so recovering from a case of Covid 19. I can enjoy reading your blog better now.

    1. Oh no!! I hope you feel better very soon. I had a nasty bout of it in June

  7. Always enjoy your posts especially the try ones. You mentioned you prefer to shop online, any particular reason? I seem to do better in physical stores so I can see the true color, fabric and fit. Ordering often results in returned shipments even from brands I am familiar with.

    1. There’s much more available online. I get to see all the color options and I’m not limited by a local store.

    2. Love the pink blazer, pink sweater and the blouse. Some of the beige is really nice .

  8. Jennifer, I just returned from an Alaskan cruise (SilverSea) and was quite surprised how dressy many of the women were at night, even with an elegant casual dress code. Would love to see some evening pieces for our November Greek Isles cruise. I’m petite too which always adds an additional challenge🤪🤪

    1. That’s a nice discovery. I suggest seperates for dressier occaisions that you can mix and match.

  9. Jill from Detroit says:

I agree. That shade of pink looks great on you. You need either the blazer or the sweater! I know you don’t wear color that often but this would look so good!

    1. lol, thanks! I love pink with black so maybe the cardi.

  10. Love the pink items, in my cart! Love the dress -im a curvy, usually P6 in Talbots dresses – in your opinion is it pretty true to size! I have hips!
    Thanks for the try on!

    1. I found the dress true to size and it was roomy over my straight hips so you’ll have some room.

  11. I like your shorter hair! I really love all the jackets you tried on and I’m so happy slim jeans are still in. I just can’t wear the wide leg jeans and pants.

  12. I noticed that you wore a size 8 petite in both the ivory and black slim ankle jeans, but a 10 petite in the slim straight jeans. Did you find that those ran small?

    1. I didn’t. They don’t have an 8P in the slim straight for me to try on. I really liked the shape of that leg.

  13. Very curious about the AirKnit collection — I have one outfit of the Spanx one and love it. I was hoping you’d say more about it… pros, cons, feel, sizing etc.

    1. I like it better than my Spanx. The fabric has a more elegant drape and feel to it. My Spanx pilled pretty quickly too but I can’t speak to that with this fabric.
There wasn’t much of it in the store because it seemed to be selling quickly. I’m hoping to see more of the colors on my next visit.

  14. Each to their own, but what is it with the midi denim skirt trend? The length tends to look a bit frumpy on most women, particularly if on the short side. This is after having bought a similar one last week and ended up returning it.

  15. Thank you for your posts. Going into fall I’m ready to wear jeans again. Would you please post your top 3 favorite jeans? Thank you again

    1. Yes, I will have that post out very soon.

  16. Love the pink on you! So flattering!
