Fall 2024 New Arrivals Try-On from Nordstrom
With fall on our horizon, I have plaid and cozy fabrics on my mind. Here’s my latest fall 2024 new arrivals try on from Nordstrom.

A try-on is when I go into a store and style their latest collection so readers can see what’s new and get some ideas for how they could wear it. I’m not shopping for myself and seldom buy clothes because I prefer to shop online. My hair gets pretty trashed, and I’m often barefoot. For size reference, I’m 5’4″, which puts me on the cusp of petite. I have wide shoulders and straight hips with no obvious curves. You can see my other recent try-ons here.

This {plaid shirt} is incredibly soft in muted shades of dusty mauve and evergreen. Rails flannels are a lovely soft rayon that feels like silk against the skin. The directions say to dry-clean, but I have always washed mine on delicate, and hung them to dry. The {wool & cotton pullover} is a stunning slate blue. The neckline has an interesting slit in the back, which keeps the turtleneck loose. This runs generously, so I sized down to a size S.
These {bootcut crop jeans} are obviously full-length on me with a 27″ inseam, but they can be easily shortened because of the frayed hemline. I am wearing the Runway wash.

Here’s a fun way to wear the current animal print trend…an image of a cheetah. I’ve been spotting several of these prints for fall. This {shirt} is a soft ivory with golden cheetahs dotted across the entire blouse. It runs true to size. I topped it with this super {soft cropped cardigan} in charcoal. It’s 19″ long, which makes it very petite-friendly and great for wearing with wider-leg pants or skirts.
These {slim straight-leg jeans} have an 28″ inseam with plenty of stretch. They’re described as “between a skinny and straight” which I agree with, but they’re closer to skinny than straight on me. The soft gray is a great alternative to blue or black for fall jeans.
MORE GRAY JEANS

This Calson {relaxed knit blazer} comes in six great fall colors, in a cotton/poly blend and is currently marked way down. I love the comfort of knit blazers and this one is a great weight for fall. This is an oversized fit so you could size down for a slimmer look. I’m wearing it over this {Faherty plaid top} that has a feminine shape with a tiny ruffle on the split neck. The sleeves are a bit full but the fabric is so soft it easily goes under that blazer.
The {Wit & Wisdom slim leg pants} come in 7 colors, several of which are marked down. These have a wide elastic sewn inside the waistband which hugs in all the right places and prevents gaps.

This {Rails cheetah print blouse} is charcoal gray and ivory, so it’s a nice option for women who want to wear the animal print trend, but prefer cool colors. It’s a super soft viscose with a gorgeous drape. It runs a bit large so you could size down. I’m wearing it under this {Rails cropped cardigan} in ivory. The fabric is a blend that’s kissed with cashmere and elastane so it’s nice and stretchy and oh so soft. I love the cropped length and the color is a gorgeous neutral.
These {Pistola high-waist crop jeans} are ankle length on me and one of my favorite pairs of denim. I reach for them so often, I may need them in a different wash. The cigarette leg is a perfect slight-straight combination and work well with flats or booties. I wore these and the sandals into the store :).
MORE CIGARETTE JEANS

This pretty {Wit & Wisdom pointelle sweater} comes in 4 colors. The frilled neckline and front edges add a pretty feminine touch that’s hard to see in these pictures. The bottom of the sleeves have the same detail which is really quite charming. I’m styling it over these Wit + Wisom Ab Solution {high waist boot cut jeans} with a raw hem. They’re a washed black shade. The website says the inseam on the regular length is 28″, but I’m wearing the petite which appear to have a 26″ inseam.
MORE BOOTCUT JEANS

This {Caslon soft plaid shirt} comes in lots of colors; I am styling the olive-purple Adley plaid. Most colors are marked down. It’s a lightweight rayon that could be worn on warmer days and layered under sweaters when it gets colder. I’m styling it under this {KUT from the Kloth faux suede jacket}. It comes in 5 great shades for fall and I am wearing the Olive. I found it ran a bit small so I sized up to a large. The cropped length is 20″ which is so helpful when trying to get the The Rule of Thirds For Your Outfits.
These {KUT from the Kloth flare jeans} fit beautifully. The fabric is a cotton blend with lyocell and spandex so they’re soft and stretchy. They have a 31″ inseam so I am standing on tippy toes to show you the leg. Flare jeans are huge for fall this year and I am a fan.
MORE FUN PLAIDS
Has your weather allowed you to think about plaids and sweaters yet?

Thank you for your blogg. I live in BC but my husband and I will be travelling to Chicago next week. I am excited about finally seeing some of the clothes from your try-ons. I am 5′ 8″ so I have difficulty finding pants that are long enough in the rise and leg. I am hopeful. I use sunless tanning cream and sunscreen on my face and neck. I have brown eyes, wear brown glasses with gold flecks & am trying to transition my hair to its natural white color. I focus on not overdoing the sunless tanning cream but worry about being too pale as I attempt to transition to white hair. I am very thankful & intrigued by your post about contrasts. (I also have a daughter who lives in Vancouver.) Thank you, once again, for your blogg. You are the best!
Carla
Have a wonderful trip! I’m not sure self tanner is helpful here but you may find a brighter lipstick works.
I love the plaid and pulled out an old blue and rust plaid shirt from Kohls from the closet today and wore it with new Loft high rise slim jeans in dark wash, a 1 in leather belt and navy ECCO sneakers. Felt so fall like! I’m in Granbury south of Ft Worth so I welcome you to Texas!
I have managed to fall into a habit of daily exercise in my pool, or spa when I need to warm up the water, to do therapy for R hip and L shoulder replacements. It keeps me going and I notice I tend to gain a pound or two if my routine is interrupted. So a daily addition of walking or exercise for an hour may be just the extra kickstart for you. I feel sluggish when I can’t do it. Love you and your blog so much. 🥰 Sandra
Hi Jennifer,
(This isn’t necessarily for publication, but you can if you want to.) I just want to acknowledge and thank you for your candor in sharing very real and common events, often related to aging, that you’re experiencing–weight gain, rosacea, thinning hair, etc. That is very generous, humanizing, and relatable. You deserve positive recognition for that!
Carolyn
Thanks Carolyn. I feel very “seen” by my audience which helps me feel this is a safe place to be honest. Life is seldom the whitewashed stuff we see on social media, which is why I love the community of a blog. Thanks for being here!
Welcome to Dallas! Yes, it’s still hot because it’s not November yet. Somehow we all survive.
I too enjoy your emails each day and to me you look great in everything you try on and model for us. The plaids are so very fall ( autumn) and you wear them beautifully!
Thanks Paulette! xo
Jennifer, you still look great! But when clothes get snug it isn’t a good feeling. Do you have any of your dresses with you? Those would be so much more comfortable than tight pants. You sure don’t want to buy larger jeans when you will get that 10 off when you’re eating home cooked food. I love the casual plaid shirts with jeans and the suede jacket is perfect for fall weather. You look good and we would not have known about the weight gain if you hadn’t mentioned if. I lost 6 while having Covid last month and I don’t recommend that way of losing! So far it is staying off, we will see.
I know you had a very nasty time with COVID this time. I’m so glad it’s behind you! Thanks for always being so kind.
I read your blog daily and have to say I have not noticed any weight gain. You looked so beautiful in the pictures you posted recently in Bellingham. Thank you for visiting my neighborhood! I love the Pistola outfit, and I enjoy wearing this style. I wonder sometimes if I dress too conservatively, and this makes me less approachable. I tend to not wear a lot of prints and I think this makes me fade into the background too much. The tiny print in the Pistola outfit makes the outfit look classic and fun which is what I really want to project. Thanks for your work and the blog as I have learned so much. I am happy that you still have a blog. Have fun in Dallas!
Your comment has my wheels spinning Sylvia. I often wory about my classic style being less creative than I’d like. It’s a topic I thing we sould explore more on AWSL
Do not fret the 10 lbs. I was up about the same and then I got COVID. Off went the 10 lbs and more. So-my body was telling me that I needed that 10, if I hadn’t had it I would be in trouble.
So-your body is fine, you look great and just enjoy life!
Thanks Sandy!
I’m commiserating with you! I’m 68 and after easily maintaining my weight for a couple years, I recently gained 7 lbs over 2 weeks! No discernible changes in diet or exercise, just a fast weight gain! Saw my nurse practitioner but she couldn’t figure out why. Frustrating.
It is very frustrating! I thought I had things figured out after menopause, but now it’s a new challenge
Hey, I feel your frustration. Exact same thing happened to me. After months of struggling to loose 10 lbs, 7 came right back in 2 weeks ends. Just like you, no clue as to why. I guess they missed me so came back to stay!
Your comment made me chuckle. I feel that way about my extra pounds too. They love me🤣
You are special because of your age. You stand out and aren’t in competition with all those younger gals-thank goodness! I turned 65 this year and added 10 pounds and I’m not even sure why because I watch what I eat! Thank you for inspiring us every day-you are so appreciated!
Thank you Patti, I needed that reminder. I’m sure non subscribers wonder what the heck we are talking about because they did not read my email 🤣
My suggestion is to find an app to track calories and movement. That way you have an idea of how many calories you can eat each day. Weigh daily. I know I hate it too. But it works. Watch the salt and drink water.
Great idea Charlotte, thanks
Thank you, Jennifer. I enjoy opening your email every day and seeing how you put outfits together. I found your recent post on color and contrast very interesting and helpful as I am starting to transition to gray/white hair.
Enjoy your conference!
Claire
My contrast is changing more than I thought it would. Try the selfie trick to see how yours changes.
So glad to see all the plaids and sweaters again. We are finally having a cool down here in WA so this was the perfect post for me. Have fun at your conference.
It’s cooling off here too amd I am so ready for it.
Thank you for your daily posts. I’m transitioning to gray and the post yesterday about contrast was very helpful. I love the try on posts. I’m glad you’re an influencer for my generation. Fashion can be challenging as we get older.
Thanks Debbie. That makes me feel very glad I’m doing what I do. xo
Enjoy the conference. I am glad you are continuing your blog and look forward to your great posts!
Thanks Vivian
Hi Jennifer
I hate that word influencer too. I don’t know why. I am on the hunt for some jeans so we will have to discuss at the conference. My daughter likes the Pistola brand. She thinks they have a great product with a good pricepoint. That first pair from AG looks great as well. Love that Rails sweater if only I wore navy!!
I’m a big fan of Pistola. Jenna is right!
Im sorry your weight is up 10 pounds but sharing that made me feel more normal because Im up too. I know we can do it and get back down to normal weight!
Love this try on haul.
We’re in this together and I know we’re not alone! Maybe as the weather cools down I’ll get back to the gym everyday which will help.
I feel your pain about the unwelcome added weight. It’s amazing how fast it can come back on. That being said, you look great. Thanks for the fall inspiration. I’m really liking the fall colors this year. I live in Texas so welcome to big Tex!
I’m excited about my trip!! I haven’t been there in many years.
