Dressing Room Diaries: Fall Fashion at Nordstrom

This week’s dressing room diaries was captured last week while I was shopping with my daughter at Nordstrom. The best time ever! She found a terrific new wardrobe for work and I found some great pieces that could go to the office or work for your casual lifestyle.

For reference, I am 5’4″ tall and weigh approximately 143lbs.

We both tried these new High Rise Stretch Boot Cut jeans and loved the fit.

Boot cuts lengthen the look of your legs which is a nice change from the ankle length skinny jeans of late. I am wearing the petite version.Ā Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life modeling Caslon sweaters from Nordstrom

STRIPED TOP // ANKLE PANT // CARDIGAN

This long sleeve tiered top by Caslon has raw edges and a slubbed fabric. I am wearing a regular in a medium. The petite version is one inch shorter which would be better for me. It comes in 3 colors plus this stripe. The slim fit ankle pants are by Halogen and available in regular, petite, and petite plus! I am wearing a P8 fits me perfectly. They are meant to show your anklesĀ so your shoes “get some attention”. I topped it with this long cotton cardigan in a shaker knit. It’s a classic boyfriend shape available in 3 colors, regular and petite. I am wearing the regular and would prefer the petite…just for sleeve length.

4 WAY CARDIGAN // TANK TOPĀ plus size HERE // HIGH WAIST STRETCH JEANS

Here I am back in Nic+Zoe. This is their classic 4-way cardigan which I already own in 3 solid colors. It’s a versatileĀ little piece to toss over everything when you want some arm coverage without bulk. I am wearing a regular length in medium, which is perfect. The petite wouldn’t drape as well and the sleeves would be too short for me. The jeans are the same boot cut as above.

ASYMMETRICAL TERRY JACKET

This great little Terry Jacket has an inner drawstring at the back waist that allows you to adjust the fullness and snug it in for figure shaping. It comes in four colors and runs large. This is a medium, I could have worn a small.

We left that Nordstrom loaded down with goodies and stopped at another one who was holding some jeans for my daughter.

While she was trying on her jeans I spotted this little jacket that had my name all over it.

MUST HAVE TWEED JACKET

The regular length version had sleeves about 4″ too long for me, but thisĀ petite one is perfect. The variegatedĀ stripes look like ribbons and the fringe edging has a very Chanel feel. This is high on my list this fall.Ā Plus size here.

EARRINGS

On the way out we stopped to play at the Baublebar counter. I love the playful designs and their price points make them an inexpensive way to add a new look to your style.

There is no one I enjoy shopping with more than my daughter. Who do you have the most fun shopping with?

Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day!

  1. Hi Jen!
Hope you had a great summer! I am looking forward to wearing some fall duds. Love seeing what you tried on.. the blue cardi and blouse are so pretty on you. I love that baby blue with your eyes and hair, so flattering. Those jeans look great, I never tried NYDJ, but bought a pair of FRAME and AG jeans for Fall, and love how they fit.
How fun that you had a mom daughter shopping day! I love the tweed jacket too, I love tweed, and this color, a grey blue is lovely! You found some great pieces! I will be looking for a few more long cardigans as I love the look.
    Have a great week!

    1. Hi Jess! My summer was great and I am so ready for fall!!! Let’s chat soon my friend.xo

  2. Barbara Crowley says:

I always shopped with my mother. She bought me pretty dresses for school, I remember and also wore pretty dresses, herself. Later she sewed skirts and dresses for me—really lovely things. I love her still—we were so close and shopped together as long as we could.

  3. I am a ninja shopper IRL – I have a plan, I strike swiftly, then make my escape; I am that solitary figure who slips through the crowds and works best alone. ???? But mostly I prefer to browse and shop online and do my own tailoring if necessary.

  4. Everything looked great on you! What fun to shop with your daughter????

  5. I like shopping alone… I think I would drive anyone shopping with me absolutely nuts. I’m loving the clothes you are trying on (especially the silk blend top) but what I really love are your glasses. I have a small head and fair hair and completion, so it’s hard to find glasses that don’t overwhelm me. Can you share the brand?

  6. Lots of good looking clothes but those long cardigans are not my favorites on anyone. They drag everything down.

    1. Theyā€™re a particular favorite of mine. 3/4 and duster lengths just feel more elegant to me. Luckily we all have options.

  7. I went shopping with my daughter yesterday…wish we could do it more often. But it was fun…I love to help her pick out wardrobe pieces for her teaching job. This trip looks like it was lots of fun. I actually have bootcut denim on my list of desires right now!

    1. Bootcut is so flattering. Youā€™re lucky your daughter lives a little closer to you than mine does. Itā€™s sure fun shopping with them.

  8. I live in a rural area of Ohio. Closest store is Kohls and I do like that store, but it is still 30 minutes away. An hour and more for a mall. Interestingly, all the small towns around me have women opening their own boutiques. Very trendy, but fun for all sizes. They have been well received. I order a lot on line. Living in the country I primarily wear jeans, a cute top and jacket with a long necklace. I do enjoy your blog! Oh, and I like to shop alone.

    1. Iā€™m glad youā€™re here Kathy. Your style sounds similar to many of us.

  9. I love shopping with my daughter because she “tells it like it is” and has way more style sense than I do. Unfortunately she also is about 600 miles away so we can’t go shopping as much as I would like šŸ™
Glad to see the boot cut jeans, I actually bought some yesterday. I like skinny jeans as well but never know what shoes to wear with them so I stick with flats which is fine for the summer but not the snowy winter. I hate shoes and boots and go as minimal as possible.

    1. Iā€™m a big fan of bootcut! They seem to flatter everyone. Having our daughters do far away is tough. I miss mine so very much.

  10. I don’t enjoy shopping for clothes any more. It is a chore. I shop alone, and do not have a daughter. Summer sales: spent more than two hours in the mall, made one purchase. I am the size of the average American woman.

It’s better for me to order online from a retailer with a local location, where I can return anything that doesn’t fit. It is not in a mall.

I guess this is why shopping habits have changed. Malls cater to people in their 20s and 30s, not me. The department stores that served my demographic have closed, so there isn’t much of a reason for me to go shopping.

    1. I find much better selections online. Brick and mortar store are carrying increasingly less for everyone these days.

  11. Iā€™m loving bootcut jeans this year. Iā€™m up a little in weight and they actually make you look slimmer. I bought them in dark wash and black. Of course, when I want to show off cute booties, Iā€™ll be wearing my skinnies.
My favourite of your DD was the fringed jacket. Itā€™s a cute, more relaxed take on the Chanel jacket. Hope it came home with you. Or, are you still on the hunt for The One?
Who is my favourite person to shop with? When I lived back east it was my sister. Sheā€™s a card! We meet almost every Saturday to shop and lunch. I had to make sure I had to on my waterproof mascara. ???? Now, it is my daughter. Weā€™re both tall with a similar shape and wear the same size shoe. She lives across the country so any time spent together is special.

    1. I love times that require waterproof mascara!! Thatā€™s a fabulous barometer to use. Still thinking about that jacket. I canā€™t own everything can I? My wallet says NO:)

      1. You did say it was perfect. An early Christmas present, perhaps?

  12. The Nic +Zoe jacket that had your name on it is perfect…So glad you had DD with you to shop…What fun?…THX for sharing…
