Gray Day in San Francisco: What I Wore

We had a touristy day in North Beach yesterday capped off by Irish Coffee and a rousing card game. The Mr. and I hopped on Bart early to meet his sister for lunch at Sotto Mare. The weather was seasonably (for San Francisco) cool and very gray, so since myĀ coats are all packed for our move I wore layers.Ā

With rain a distinct possibility I wore a wool hat and slipped a scarf into my purse to pull out when I needed it, which was the moment we arrived in the city. I woreĀ theseĀ comfyĀ high-topĀ sneakers because I knew we would be walking a lot. I chose my stretchiest black jeans, ivory cashmereĀ sweater, andĀ lightweight swing jacket.

The food was predictably delicious at Soto Mare and I ate way too much…hence

This pizzeriaĀ is a definite must try next time. The tables are perfectly set for people watching on a warmer day.

We chose Vesuvio to warm up with Irish Coffee and break out the Five Crowns. I’m seldom a good card player but I am a good sport.

The object of Five Crowns is to have the lowest score. Mine was easily 10 times higher than the winner.

The ride home on Bart was jammed with riders which reminded me how unpleasant it can be to be stuffed into an airless train with too many people. It beats battling the traffic but not by much

Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day!

  1. Those boots are the cutest and go great with your cute outfit! I’m glad to know about 5 Crowns – We are a gaming family and I’m always looking for a new one to introduce during our get togethers. Parking is such a pain, not to mention expensive, in the city (at least in our experience) so Bart is a good alternative – even when it’s crowded.

  2. Lovely way to spend the day and you did it in style!

I enjoy your blog and look forward to reading about your ventures. This outfit looks great on you and I love your glasses. Where did you purchase them?

    1. These are a brand called Aspire which is available at many opticians.

  4. New glasses? Even if not, I love them!

  5. Love your outfit and love San Francisco. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there, but it is by far my favorite city. I had my first Irish Coffee there at the Buena Vista Cafe and it was delicious! It’s a must stop every time I’ve had the opportunity to go to San Francisco. Thanks for Sharing your day in the City!

I have been enjoying your recent shoes and sandal choices. I appreciate your balanced attention to comfort and style. I want both, not one or the other.

Love your “travel” posts! They are always beautifully done and so interesting! But a quick question….What is “Bart”? (Also – I’ve noticed there is a big “P” in the middle of some of your pictures on your blogs and lots of times it covers up your face, outfit, etc…I’m assuming that is where you post on Pinterest? I don’t go on there myself, so just wondering! šŸ™‚
Travel on and keep us the wonderful updates!

    1. Sorry, I should have explained. BART is our Bay Area Rapid Transit. The trains. Yes the P is for Pinterest. Iā€™ll see if I can move where they are.

      1. Two things, Jennifer…firstly, those sift colors look so pretty on you. Second (for a chuckle) years ago my folks lived in Allegany CA a very tiny town above Grass Valley. There was another small town about an hour away named Forest. There was a van that went back and forth between the two towns shuttling mail and other supplies. The folks in the two towns affectionately called the van FART for Forest Allegany Rapid Transit. They thought they were quite clever. Always made me laugh ????.

I get the P if I hover on picture but it vanishes if I move cursor to just outside picture

      3. Shirley from GA says:

That works! Thanks so much for the tip, Audrey! I didn’t realize I was “hovering” – I’m not a “Pinterest” gal, so I’m not familiar with the finer points!

  11. Casual and classy brought together. I love your outfit and especially the coat. Sounds like you had a lovely day.

  12. I love this outfit. And thanks for the little tour of SF. Always enjoyed.

Are those boots TTS? Supportive? I haven’t seen them before and they look great.

    1. These sneaker booties donā€™t have her usual built in arch support so I add an insert. Theyā€™re very roomy so take one easily.

  13. Cute outfit!! Looked cozy and stylish! I’ll have to look for the Five Crowns game!! My family loves a good card game!

    1. It is fun! We love to play cards. Liverpool rummy is fun too

      1. Five Crowns is our fav family card game!!! It is also my fav gift to take when visiting friends….easy to learn and play even when adult beverages are involved!
As for your outfit, unbeknownst to me, I duplicated it yesterday in snowy, chilly Boston…. thanks for inspiring me earlier this winter????????????????????????

      2. My daughter brings 5 Crowns with her when she visits! We love it.
