Dressing Room Diary: Great Finds at Chico’s For Spring 2024

Today, I have a dressing room diary with some great finds at Chico’s for spring 2024. I do fewer try-on sessions at Chico’s because my local store feels understocked. I may begin ordering clothes to my house for a try-on session because the options are more plentiful.

dressing room diary is when I go into a local store for a try-on session so you can see whatā€™s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I’m 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 144 lbs. I have broad shoulders with straight hips, a long torso, and long arms. I often buy one size larger on top. I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me because I want you to see whatā€™s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.

Chicoā€™s sizes are 000(0/XS),  (0/2ā€“ XS), 0 (4/6 S), 1 (8/10-M), 2 (12-14)-L, 3 (16/18-XL) 4 (20/22-XXL. Chicoā€™s also carries many garments in petite and some in tall. Iā€™ll tell you what Iā€™m wearing in Chicoā€™s sizes so you can understand how things run.

NO-IRON LINEN STRIPE SHIRT size 1 / GIRLFRIEND FRAY HEM KICK FLARE JEANS size 0.5 / VERY OLD DRIVING MOCS

I’m a big fan of no-iron fabrics when I travel, but also just love them for their easy care and crisper appearance. Chico’s added no-iron linen several years ago and it’s fabulous. This striped shirt is 100% linen, so it’ll breathe and not look like a limp rag in hot weather the way most linen does. The sleeves are 3/4 length, which I like to fold up another two cuff lengths.

These kick flare jeans have a regular inseam of 26″, and the petites are 24″. I happen to prefer this length on me, which just hits at ankle length. I like the unfinished hem on a kick flare because it makes the bottom is softer so it doesn’t stick out stiffly. The wash on these is perfect for spring and a nice change from the dark wash I wear during the winter. These would also be cute with a tall sock bootie under the leg.

TWILL POLKA DOT SHIRT DRESS size 0

This twill maxi dress is a classic black with white polka dots in a button-front shirtdress style with a fabric sash. It has smocked cuffs and side seam pockets. This dress has a very flattering a-line shape that swishes nicely when you move.

The fabric is lightweight, so you could wear it right through the spring with sandals and a straw bag. I’m so happy to see dresses without huge poufy sleeves and that have dialed down the fullness. Dare we hope that adult dresses will stop looking like they belong on a 5 year old?

NO-STAIN ALABASTER DENIM JACKET size 1 / FLORAL V-NECK TEE size 1 / NAVY BRIGITTE SO SLIMMING CROP size 0.5

There are a lot of vibrant colored tee’s at Chico’s right now. This floral v-neck caught my eye because of its soft and bright, cool-based colors. It would be fun to wear with white jeans, shorts, or pants in the summer.

I topped it with this alabaster denim jacket in their patented, no-stain fabric. I’m usually a size 1 in their tops and jackets but this was huge on me so I think it may have been mislabled. The sleeves have a double row of frayed edges and the waist does not have the typical heavy band many denim jaclkets have.

These are Chico’s customer favorite, Brigitte pants in navy with a cropped length. They come in 6 colors with an inseam of 24″ in regular and 22″ in petite. It’s a slightly stretchy fabric with a fit that’s slim through the hips and thighs.

ZENERGY JACKET size 1 / RUFFLE POLOR SHIRT size 1 / RIBBED SKORT size 0.5

Next, I moved on to their Zenergy collection and found this great little jacket that has lattice detailing on the sleeves and a UPF 50 sun protection. This sporty little jacket has a hood, which is described as removable and to be honest, I didn’t notice it at the time so I didn’t check it out. The color is magenta rose, which matches the stripe in this knit striped ruffle sleeve polo shirt. It also comes in a navy stripe or solid green here. This shirt also has UPF sun protection, as does most of the Zenergy collection.

I paired them with this skort made from 4-way stretch fabric that is lightweight, rapid-dry, and moisture-wicking. This has a nice inseam of 18.5″ so it’s got more coverage than may skorts I see.

INTARSIA DOLMAN SLEEVE SWEATER size 1 / JULIET EYELET HEM CULOTTES size 0.5

This particular shade of green is very popular this spring, and Chico’s is showing it in lots of items. I’m wearing an intarsia sweater that combines green with ivory and black. The sweater is lovely but dolman sleeves and open boat-type necklines are not flattering on me. They add visual width up top, which is the last thing I need, but they’re perfect for women who have wider hips.

Then I went ahead and paired it with wider cropped culottes. This is not a stellar combination. These pants are a nice shape, and the eyelet detail is perfect for spring, but a top that fits closer to the body would be a better proportion with these culottes. The pants are black, and they also come in white. The fabric has a nice amount of spandex, so they fit smoothly and feel terrific on. The inseam is 25″, so they’re not very cropped on me.

NO IRON LINEN TUNIC size 1 / TRAVELERS PULL-ON JEGGING size 6R

This no-iron linen tunic is coming with me to Mexico. The color has a chambray vibe which I love and it’ll be great over white jeans all summer. It also comes in the 3/4 sleeve shirt version here…but sometimes you just want the extra length for coverage.

I’m wearing it over these pull-on jeggings, which needed to be about several inches shorter to work for me. They’re very comfy, have a nice wash, and the front hem detail is fun.

NO-IRON STRECH WHITE SHIRT size 1 / TRAVELERS CROPPED PULL-ON JEANS size 0.5

I’m showing this no-iron shirt tied and untied because the jeans have a fuller leg. The shirt has a lot going for it. The fabric has plenty of stretch, and the shape is fitted with a fun sleeve. This one is also going to Mexico with me because the embroidery is subtle, it’s blue, and, of course, it will pack well.

I’m wearing it with these Travelers cropped pull-on jeans. I must admit, I had no idea that Chico’s included jeans in their Travelers collection. Both pairs I tried on this time are a lovely weight denim, and feel terrific, which should come as no surprise because that collection is intended to be extra comfy. These regulars have a 26″ inseam and the petite’s are 24″. The 4% spandex means these will hold their shape while being comfy to sit in for long periods.

All in all, I was very impressed with the great finds at Chico’s for Spring 2024!

Have you checked out their latest collection?

    1. Thanks so much. So many readers love Chico’s too!

  2. Chicos petites fit me but even online are hard to find. Your picks are my picks. You look lovely in the polka dot maxi dress. I already have a chambray colored shirt that I love and wear as a topper a lot. Iā€™m no longer able to knit because of severe arthritis in my hands but did knit most of my life and also found it very meditative.

    1. I gave it up for a few years because of my hands but now I alter the sizes needles and try to control how much time I spend doing it

  3. I am so happy with the green trend. So many beautiful shades! What I can do without is a tab and button cuff sleeve. I find them to be awkward and hard to roll up.

  4. Another great selection you shared! I couldn’t resist the green striped shirt. Wasn’t sure about the cuffs at first, but as you did, I will roll them up. The magenta rose jacket is so cute and a wonderful color on you. I too, would like to see your knitting projects. The items you took home for your Mexico trip were perfect.

    1. I love that green too! It’s a happy color

  5. I like the skort on you. I love skorts in place of shorts as long as theyā€™re not too short.

I love how you are showing dressing room real life try ons. Great idea and really fills a need for your shoppers. Thank you

  7. Darn , I would like to order from Chico’s but they don’t ship to Canada or at least I don’t think they do . If anybody knows a way around this , I would like to know.

I love your blog Jennifer ! I learn so much from you . Keep up the good work .

    1. Does anyone have a work around for Colette to order to Canada?

      1. Deanna Hutchings says:

I receive clothes from Chico’s often and I live in Victoria, BC in Canada. No problems… Deanna

    2. Beverly I am in southern Ontario and order on line from chico’s all the time. Maybe depends on where you are but I have no problem.

  8. Some really nice styles for sure and do like the sleeve detail on the denim jacket. As to the jeans you are modeling you are so fortunate to have a long torso as they do look amazing on you. Whereas I am finding since loosing some height, ‘high waisted’ bottoms don’t work for me as once did as look out of proportion and also am finding them uncomfortable. (In fact, so much that I am in the midst of lowering the waistband on some that otherwise fit me elsewhere. ) -Brenda-

  9. The green is a gorgeous color, by itself and on you in particular. I bet it would be pretty with ivory trousers. An admin at another retailer called non-iron “magic” so I researched it. You might want to as well.

    1. Itā€™s a fabulous green! Iā€™ll check it out. I know chemicals are involved.

  10. I really liked the green striped shirt and jeans on you. I have never found a single thing that fits me at our Chicos store. I have to look at petites on line. I really liked everything in this try on session. Loved what you decided to take home.

  11. One of the things I love about your DRDs is that you explain why something works or doesn’t. You have taught me a lot about wearing clothes! Thank you!
On another note, as a knitter, I’d love to see your project ,the yarn and pattern you’re knitting!
    Thanks again!

    1. Iā€™m glad you find them helpful! I can share my knitting on Monday

  12. Sue Daehlin says:

I am enjoying these fresh new looks and colors. The non iron linen shirt is a must have. Please share the progress on your knitting project. What fun to create something to wear.

  13. Us knitters (or at least I am!) are interested in what sweater pattern you are knitting, please let us know!

  14. I really needed to update my wardrobe and Chicoā€™s was the perfect place to shop! Dress slacks, jeans, a sweater and a few blouses were a great start. I didnā€™t opt for the green, but did bring home a deep lilac no iron shirt and a bright pink knit top to jazz things up!

    1. I missed the lilac! Itā€™s such a great color!!
