Lo & Sons Review: My Favorite Travel Purses

As a seasoned traveler always on the lookout for the perfect blend of style, functionality, and durability, there is one brand of bags that I can’t seem to put down. I have put these bags to the test in airports, bustling city streets, and off-the-beaten-path adventures. Since their website is currently running an up to 40% off sale, I thought I would share my firsthand experience and honest thoughts on why Lo & Sons has become my go-to choice for travel purses that are both chic and practical.

The Bond Sling Bag

The Bond Sling Bag is the most recent addition to my Lo & Sons collection and is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. It’s designed to be carried as either a crossbody or a shoulder bag, and the unisex design even allows my husband to carry it on hikes or travel excursions.

With multiple compartments, this bag excels at organization! It effortlessly accommodates all my essentials, from cards and small gadgets like AirPods to my favorite sunscreen and lip balm.

My favorite thing about the Bond Sling Bag is its lightweight construction. Despite its durable build, it feels almost weightless on your shoulders, making it ideal for extended periods of wear. Whether I’m window shopping around town or going for a walk through the park, this bag remains comfortably in place without weighing me down.

The Pearl

This convertible bagĀ is one of my most carried bags! Based on cost per wear, it has paid for itself many times over. I own it in two colors, but the graphite metallic color is a terrific chameleon that goes with everything and never shows dirt.

I also have the Pearl in ivory, which leans a bit dressier but is just as versatile as the metallic.

The Pearl comes with several straps, so you can wear it as a shoulder bag, cross-body, or clutch with a wrist strap. I find the flexibility to change straps or lengthen or shorten them quickly makes it invaluable while traveling. It has lots of interior pockets to keep me organized, and while it might look small, it truly holds everything I could possibly need on an outing.

Waverly Bag

I also own and loveĀ their Waverly bag. I have it in both ivory and pale gray, which are the perfect neutrals for matching any of my outfits. This bag can fulfill many roles, as it easily transforms from a crossbody into a belt bag, shoulder bag, evening clutch, or a makeup bag inside a larger bag.

The size of the Waverly is petite, but large enough for holding the essentials, which for me are my credit cards, money, lipstick, hand sanitizer, mints, Tylenol, and phone.

I often wear this as a waist bag at the airport so that I can keep all of my travel documents nearby and secure.

The Nouvelle

The Nouvelle Crossbody

My assistant recently purchased the Nouvelle crossbody bag for her travels, and she loves it. It can easily lay flat in your bag, the nylon is great in case it rains, and it is roomy enough to fit a water bottle or small umbrella.

This bag comes in several great colors. I love that it isn’t just stylish, but it’s practical too. With plenty of pockets and compartments, it keeps all your stuff in check. No more digging around for your phone or passport; everything’s right where you need it.

I’m not sure how long this sale will go on, but it’s a great time to update your travel bag.

I purchased the Pearl in graphite for our last cruise and absolutely LOVE it for travel (a bit small for my everyday bag). It also fits inside my carryon tote (can only have 2 personal bags, one being your carryon). Lo & Sons makes a quality bag. Worth the money.

  2. I bought the Pearl a couple of years ago on your recommendation. It is by far my most worn bag. I am curious about the sling. Did you get it in leather or nylon? Can it be worn toward your back? Thanks for all your great suggestions!!

    1. I got the leather. I have worn it in the front and the back or belted around my waist because the strap is adjustable. It’s a great bag.

  3. Hi Jennifer, Thanks to you & one other fellow blogger I was introduced to Lo & sons bags a couple of years ago. I own the Pearl in Ivory, Black and a pretty Rust color. They are definitely my go to bags. They are always a classic.I really like their companies story and substainibility for lack of a better word. I do wish they were a smidge bigger.I also purchased their zip around full size wallet in a pretty green. If fits in the pearl but takes up most of one section. I love that the wallet has horizontal & vertical slip pockets for your credit cards & ID. I then purchased two different sizes of the Catalina? travel tote bag for gifts. My husband loved his on our recent trip to Utah as when we were in & out of so many hotels he would simply bring in his tote. I guess I am a fan too!

    1. I found thier wallet a bit large for the Pearl too, so I travel with a smaller one and use this one at home.

  4. I wish you would show the interior of the bags like you did with the Nouvelle–I’m always searching for the next great bag. LOL I do have a lo & sons Seville 13″ tote with a couple of sleeves. GREAT bag has held up for 6 years and has been my favorite work bag for everyday AND travel. I used to swap my work totes every quarter/seasonally, but now I just change shells.

After reading your blog about Lo and Sons, I did my research and ended up purchasing the Pearl in graphite and Sienna. I love them. Iā€™m real picky about my handbags. They must be attractive, yet have certain ā€œbits and piecesā€, separate spaces with zippers. These fit my needs perfectly and yes, they definitely end up being a bargain.

  6. Love all these bags. I’m always looking for smaller handbags not just for travel but for everyday too. I’m petite and have a bad shoulder so buying a handbag has always been a challenge. I like that these are small but actually have some room.

  7. Good Morning
I too have the sling bag, a Xmas gift 2 years ago from my husband and the Catalina weekender which I have used with my carry on for both domestic and international travel for the past 6 years. I love both….they are stylish, durable and so functional. Lo and Sons is a wonderful company, my first Catalina had a zipper defect and they replaced the bag immediately. I would buy so many more of their bags if I had a larger closet. Thank you for the heads up on the sale!

    1. Iā€™ve been debating about that weekender because their bags are so intelligently designed. Thanks for the heads up.

I love the LO & Sons bags. I have 2 Pearl (black and ivory) which as you said have more than paid for themselves. They are my go-to travel bags. I also have the larger OG carry on which is at least 15 years old and looks like new. We are in the process of moving and packing, but I plan to add another of their bags to my collection soon. Highly recommend them.

    1. I will check out the OG. Iā€™m finding my current carry-on awkward.

  9. I own two Hedgren purses for travel. They have 4 features that make a huge difference when traveling: they are VERY lightweight, have wide straps (I travel only with crossbody bags), have sufficient interior and exterior pockets, and are available in a size large enough not to look absurd (I am 5ā€™2ā€) but can carry two pairs of glasses, a traditional iPad, all the usual miscellany, and a lightweight shawl if needed.

    1. Thank you for the recommendation Lee. I looked them up and ordered one for an upcoming trip. They sound great, roomy, lightweight and look cute too.
