My Favorite Beauty Finds of 2022

Skincare Products

1. Advanced Clinicals Manuka Honey

By 60, our skin isnā€™t producing the same amount of collagen and natural oils as our younger skin. To counteract that, Iā€™ve found it invaluable to slather a good-quality moisturizer all over my body when Iā€™m fresh out of the shower. Formulas that contain squalane, hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid, and lactic acid are some of the best for moisturizing aging skin. I also reapply to my legs and arms each night. It may seem like overkill, but the extra effort makes a world of difference. I shared inĀ this postĀ that I moisturize every day and night with this affordable lotion that doesn’t break the bank.

2. Advanced Clinicals Retinol Advanced Firming Cream

Iā€™ve always slathered myself with a good moisturizer twice a day, but itā€™s no longer enough. Retinol products are supposed to help improve the appearance of crepey skin, so Iā€™ve gone back to using this one. Itā€™s cruelty-free and has lots of good stuff like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, green tea, and camomile for redness. Since Iā€™ll be using it everywhere, I also appreciate its price.

3. Purito Fermented Complex 94 Boosting Essence

Purito is a Korean skincare brand that makes eco-friendly formulations that are 100% cruelty-free, vegan, hypoallergenic, and incredibly affordable.Ā I apply it to my face morning and evening after washing it. It has changed my skin in an amazing way! Iā€™m so happy with how this makes my skin feel that I even bought a little travel bottle to decant some for traveling.

4. Tan-Luxe The Butter

Let me start by saying that this is a luscious moisturizer, even without the self-tanning properties. It contains Vitamin E, sweet almond oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, and tons of other moisturizing oils. It smells lovely and feels super hydrating going on. You will be pleased to find that it quickly dials down the pastiness! You can apply it all over, but Iā€™m only interested in adding color to my legs. Iā€™ve discovered that swapping Tan-Luxe in for my regular moisturizer every other morning is the perfect amount of color for me.

5. MDSolarSciences Solar Stick SPF40 Travel Stick

I had melanomaĀ on my leg around 20 years ago, which has made me hyper-vigilant about wearing sunscreen. I now own 2 ofĀ these solar sticks. One lives in my handbag, and one lives in my car. Windshields are usually coated with a filter to block some rays, but seeing the sun just beat down as I hold the steering wheel feels like Iā€™m damaging my skin, so I reach for this stick often. Itā€™s not sticky or white going on, so I use it a lot.

6. Braun Facial Cleanser and Hair Remover

I have an older Braun version of this epilator and love it! I got so tired of missing huge swaths of hair while shaving in the shower (without my glasses on) that I gave this a shot, and Iā€™m hooked. I only have to use it every few weeks, and the regrowth is so soft that I never notice that itā€™s back until I look really closely. Just between you and I, I also just started using it on the peach fuzz on my face…we shall see how that works out.

7. Purito Dermide Cica Barrier

I layer this sleeping pack over my serums and Retin A at night. It feels like I am bathing my skin in moisture, which it needs! Itā€™s loaded with lots of beneficial ingredients and leaves my skin incredibly hydrated.

8. Tinkle Dermaplaning Tool/Eyebrow Shaver

At-home dermaplaning has never been easier with these handy razors. They remove peach fuzz on your face and exfoliate your skin. When I donā€™t have time to use my Epilator, I will use these for a quick clean-up, and noā€¦my facial hair does not grow back in stubbly or thicker.

Haircare Products

9. Kevin Murphy Anti-Gravity Volumizer

Iā€™ve used Kevin Murphy products for years. They work brilliantly and give great results, especially for those of us who are struggling with our hair thinning as we get older. So many of you bought this as well this year and had great results.

10. Pro Waves Hair Rollers

I swear byĀ these velcro rollers. My ultra-fine, thinning hair needs all the help it can get, and a few moments in these rollers while I shower gives it some nice lift. I also just began using these hot rollers on my freshly washed, dry hair and love the volume I get.

11. Color Wow Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray

The grayer my hair gets, the duller it looks, and this spray adds tons of shine without oil or anything to weigh it down. I love it!

12. Nioxin Volume and Texture Spray for Thinning Hair

This adds texture and boosts body from the roots all the way down to the ends for fuller-looking hair.

Miscellaneous Items

13. Double Sided Fashion Tape

This can save the day in the event of an overexposure wardrobe malfunction. Iā€™ve also been known to tape up a falling hem or temporarily shorten pants with this stuff. The tiny tins are so small that every fashionista should have one in her handbag.

14. Every Drop Beauty Spatula

This brilliant beauty spatula is specifically designed to help you retrieve and scoop out the remaining product from your favorite make-up and skincare bottles, making sure you are not wasting a single drop. Stuff is expensive these days, and more often than not, the packing isnā€™t user-friendly enough to ensure we get to use it all.

15. Nail and Cuticle Oil

This is a must-have to keep your cuticles and hands super soft during the cold winter months. In fact, my cuticles could benefit from this year-round.

16. Collagen For Her

Collagen for Her is a women-owned small company making products with recognizable ingredients with womenā€™s unique needs in mind. Since normal collagen production declines as we age, it makes sense that supplementing our diet with high-quality collagen provides extra support as we get older.

17. Collagen for Her Marine Collagen Beauty Gummies

Collagen for Her’sĀ new Marine Collagen Beauty Gummies, are fabulous! Now itā€™s even easier to ensure I get my collagen. This unique blend consists of hydrolyzed fish collagen, 100% daily Vitamin C, biotin, and hyaluronic acid so itā€™s perfect for folks like me who are pescatarians.

18. RevitaBrow Advanced Eyebrow Conditioner

This eyebrow conditioner truly delivers! My sparse eyebrows have all grown back in to the point that I no longer need to use a pencil! Several of you have also tried it and reported back similar results. If you have a gal on your list who has thin brows, and most of us do, treat them to this Revitabrow. Itā€™s a real game-changer, plus it is ophthalmologist-formulated, dermatologist-reviewed, hypoallergenic, Non-irritating, oil-free, vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, and works!!

I bought the gummies!šŸ˜– to the taste!! But Iā€™m hanging in there, thinking Iā€™ll develop a taste for them! And my sister bought the powder. She says she doesnā€™t even notice it in her coffee!! Maybe Iā€™ll try that next time!

    1. You donā€™t taste the powder at all because itā€™s hidden in your drink flavor.

  2. I am always excited when you post product recommendations. I can’t wait to try these!

  3. I love WOW products!! For a point of reference, I still have my hair colored (ashy blonde), & have short, straight hair. Only tool Imuse is a brush/blow dryer. I avoid products that have sulfate & are colored hair friendly.
I alternate once a week with a shampoo to help tone down any brassiness.
The WOW products leave my hair soft with shine.

    1. That’s good to know, thanks

  4. Quick question. Are you using the Manuka Honey and retinol body creams at the same time? Alternating? Thanks!

    1. I use them interchangeably. Depending on my mood. The retinal is becoming a fav.

  5. Jennifer, thank you for including cruelty-free and vegan products in your list. I am committed to supporting companies that make them but itā€™s frustrating that there arenā€™t more on the market. I really appreciate finding some here.

    1. I use cruelty-free as often as possible, so I will include more and more as we go forward.

  6. Linda Shearer says:

Yes I ordered the Advanced Clinicals Manuka Honey Body Cream and I love it. Best Body Cream I have ever had. Im going to try some of there other products.

  7. Wow! What a great list of products. Iā€™m going to give some of them a try. Thank you.

  8. I bought the Braun several months ago, and I really like it. I go weeks without shaving now. Let me know how you do with it on your face. I haven’t tried it yet on my face. I have a sensitive face, so not sure how it might do.

    1. It does sting a bit, but it’s working well!

  9. Great timing, the info on the products you are using with results is just what I am needing right now with the cold weather and how it is affecting my skin. I’ve just placed an order, thank you! I love the tips you give on hair and skin products, at our age it seems changes are happening over night. I appreciate your openness about what you are dealing with and what does and hasn’t worked for you.
Plus, the days you feature clothing, it helps to see the outfits on someone around the same age.
    Hugs, Debra

Good list, Jennifer. I have used the cuticle oil for years and it really helps. I get a dermaplane facial every 6 weeks and it really helps control the peach fuzz. She recommended the Am Lactin Rapid Relief lotion. The lactic acid really helps wrinkles & dry skin. I use it everywhere.

    1. I’ve always wondered about dermaplaning facials. I have to admit I seldom go for facials etc. Sounds like I should try some.

  11. I got the honey cream, and I think would be great for most people. I have unbelievably dry skin, and still prefer the Cerave in the tub. Yes to the razors, and Iā€™m going to buy the spatulas. A couple of suggestions: jojoba oil. It has a smaller cell structure, so it penetrates better than even coconut oil. I use it as an incredibly cheap cuticle oil. I also warm it in a little wide mouth jar, and soak my fingertips and nails for a spa feeling. I use it over my lotion after bathing, I use it on my lips, and I even use it on the tips of my hair for a few hours once a week before shampooing. It absorbs quickly. My second suggestion would be to check out Doctorly on You Tube. Two entertaining dermatologists address skin care with quite effective and affordable options (spoiler alert: Vaseline might be your best night eye cream). Thanks to them, I do something called slugging, and my skin has never looked better. Thanks for your recommendations, Jennifer. In the crowded beauty space, itā€™s so nice to have some suggestions from someone whose opinion I value.

    1. I have seen Doctorly, and they are full of great info!! I have been doing a form of slugging for a few months and think it’s great.

  12. Great list, Jennifer. I bought the Manuka Honey cream at your recommendation and it is wonderful! I’m going to try some of your other recommendations. Thanks!

  13. Jennifer, The OPI oil is always in use, even my husband appreciates it. The Revitabrow is my very favorite suggestion. My eyebrows have become more enhanced, thicker and darker. My cosmetologist is very impressed with how this product has framed my eyes. I also use the Hi-Def Brow Gel in soft brown. Adding that, some tinted moisturizer, and lipstick and I am ready for the grocery store!

There are some other products that I will try from those you suggested today. Wishing you and yours a healthy and happy 2023.

  14. Lots of good stuff here! Got to come back to this when I have a little more time and do some ordering. Thanks for all these great product suggestions!

  15. I have tried the peach fuzz removers and I guess my peach fuzz is resistant to these little tools. I go over the same area and the fuzz is still there. I do have derma planing every four months but I could use some touch ups in between. I do have a derma planing device but it has a razor so I have to be careful.

  16. Wow, such a great list. I will be searching for Canadian delivery for many of these items. Thank you for mentioning about the hair regrowth with the two removal items. I have been wanting to try that for a while now but rather nervous since I have a lot of course hair elsewhere… TMI. Thank you for all you do for us, and a very Happy New Year to you and your family, and all the lovely readers here

  17. Thanks for your good suggestions, Jennifer. I use the OPI oil. It does seem to help my dry, winter cuticles.

I am a brand switcher for beauty products, so for me to repeat a purchase, it has to work for me. This year, Iā€™ve found two products that have earned my loyalty.

I have long had problems with creapy, sagging skin on my neck. Tried many products that never seemed to make a difference. I discovered The Neck Serum by Necessaire, which is the first product where I found improvement. I only use it once a day, but have noticed tighter skin on my neck and around my jawline. Itā€™s available
    online and carried by Nordstrom.

My poor hands! In an effort to repair years of neglect and age, I started to wear face serum and hand cream on them at night. Then I discovered Youth Hand Cream by Lā€™Occitane, which is their shea butter hand cream (great on its own) with their Immortelle essential oil blended in. Not just a little bit; I can tell the difference in the cream. I smooth it on in the evening and after my shower. My hands still show some age, but are much softer and far less dry.

Happy New Year to you and all of your readers!

    1. Thank you for sharing Susan. Iā€™ll order the neck serum immediately. I got the body serum for Christmas and love it! Iā€™m a switcher like you which is why Iā€™m so shocked that $14 Purito essence has made the cut for me. Iā€™m on my 6th bottle!
