Spring Looks in Dressing Room Diaries

Happy Sunday ladies and welcome to dressing room diaries. DRD is when I go into stores and try on new clothes so you can see how they look on a woman older than 30 and larger than a size 2. I take off my shoes so I can get pants on,Ā my hair gets trashed and my glasses often end up askew.

I’m 5’4″ and weight between 142-147 depending on whose scale I get on. I hit several stores this week before I decided on Nordstrom. They had a lot to choose from for casual looks which is what many of you wear. My hairĀ was a wreck before I started this try on session – just sayin’.

Nic+Zoe floral dress and linen sweater from Nordstrom worn by Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life

Let’s ignore the leopard shoes with this look, shall we? I started with this stretch floral dressĀ fromĀ Nic+Zoe. It has a flattering V neckline and is a nice modest length. The bodice has a side knot which gathers the front like a wrap dress. It simply pulls over your head, easy peasy. Plus here. It runs true to size, I am wearing a medium. I topped it with a matching linen sweaterĀ which can be tied or buttoned 4 different ways. Plus here. I have this cardigan in pale gray and will be adding a white one to my wardrobe this summer. It’s the perfect weight for arm coverageĀ in hot weather.

I tried these Wit & Wisdom jeans on in 5 colors and wanted to bring 4Ā of them home (the fifthĀ was too large. They run true to size. I’m wearing an 8 regular. Plus here. They fit like a dream and have an inner support system that smoothes things out, front and back. The color on the left is Laurel Oak. The color on the right is Flax. I’m wearing it with this tiered linen teeĀ which comes in eight colors. This is the Cherry Blossom. It runs true to size, I’m wearing a small and could go up to a medium.

This red sanctuary shirt comes in four colors, plus here. The website says it runs large and to size down. I don’t agree. I’m normally a medium in their shirts and this small is too snug across the chest and back.

These jeans are the same fit as Wit & Wisdom above but in black with white polka dot pattern. I love them! The striped tee is by Vince Camuto. It has a sheer rayon panel at the bottom which gives extra coverage without looking heavy. It’s hard to see over black jeans but would be really pretty over lighter color pants. It runs true to size. I’m wearing a small and need the medium.

I love a good tweed jacket and this one is a winner. Plus here. It’s unlined so has some give to the fabric making it cool for spring and comfy to wear. The snap front has a fringe edge and looks good open or closed. It has 3/4 length sleeves which areĀ great for bracelets and help you look taller. I’m wearing a regular, medium and the sleeves are too long to look properly cropped on me. The petite medium was too snug, the petite large was perfect. I’m wearing it over the Nic+Zoe Perfect TankĀ in regular and Polished Wonderstretch Pants in 8 petite. Plus here. The tank is too long on me so I need the petite, the pants are awesome. White stretch pants that are opaque, always have a place in my summer wardrobe.

These are the same Wit and Wisdom jeans as above, and Nic+Zoe tank. I topped it with a button-up linen sweater from Nic+Zoe. I’m not sure I would wear this combo and I certainly wouldn’t opt for leopard flats. I like the length of this cardigan.Ā I’m wearing a medium in regular length and think it runs small –Ā  perhaps because of the soft ribbing, mid-torso which snugs in the waistline.

There are so many great casual looks around this spring, I’m going to have to keep a firm hold on my wallet.

Have you doneĀ any spring shopping yet?

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

I really liked the styles presented but especially the patterned dress and coral sweater. I have something like it in my closet. I also like the gray and peach presented and the polka dot navy pants that flatter you, Jennifer. Thanks for the DRD. Haven’t started spring shopping but this gives me many ideas on which to focus.

  2. Very pretty. I’m craving spring. We had snow here yesterday and I was not amused. I’m mainly shopping my closet this year since all our money is going on tile and counters! Good luck on the house. Such a stressful time. I’ll be thinking of you and hoping all goes well. Xx

    1. Thanks Jen. Itā€™s very stressful. We shopped tile and counters yesterday which blew my mind. Insanely expensive.

  3. I really like the poppy colored shirt! I have the green pants. The bright color looks awesome on you, Jennifer!

  4. I love the Nic and Zoe dress and have it two different patterns. Love the red and coral and watch for it to go on sale. Love your DRDs. Have a great week!

  5. Every outfit you tried on was cute, but my favorite was the coral cardigan with the patterned dress. It fit you perfectly and the color is pretty on you.

  6. Nic and Zoe is one of my favorite lines so am glad to see it featured in your DRD. I buy a few things from them almost every season. They are flattering, easy to wear and travel with( lots of knits) and I find the quality very good. You look great in your choices above!

    1. Thank you. Iā€™m always happy with my Noc+Zoe purchases. Their timeless styling make them smart purchases.

  7. Love the jeans, especially the polka dot ones. Too bad they are so short – good on you, but not on my taller person. I do not like the high-water look on me.

I have been eyeing the Rothys shoes – I keep seeing them on Pinterest. I have feet issues like you, so I am wondering
how comfortable they are, being as they say they are made from plastic bottles! I am 10.5 + bunions. I would like some shoes
that are cute, but good for extended walking. How well do you like them compared to your other shoes? The Rothy’s are kind of expensive, but might be worth it.

    1. I wear between an 8 1/2 and 9 1/2. In Rothys I bought a 9 1/2 and added a heel cup for extra cushioning. They DO NOT stretch so buy on the larger size. You can always add insoles if you need them

      1. Thanks for the info. I will definitely think about trying them.
I am going to Paris with my daughter in September.
Are they good for lots of walking even if they don’t stretch?

  8. Great picks! I really liked the dress and the blue sweater jacket. They looked great on you and are very springy. I live in Northern Michigan so spring hasn’t quite sprung here yet BUT I am so excited to see some of the snow starting to melt away finally. Hopefully soon I will be able to trade in all of my winter clothes soon for some of these spring styles. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Love the pink jeans. Would you please tell us what bra you are wearing. Thanks

  10. Great looks! I love the Wit & Wisdom jeans and immediately clicked through to order some, but alas! I forgot you are petite, and on a non-petite person they are crops. I’m tall, and on me they would be pedal pushers. Still, I may have to head to Nordstrom and do my own reconnaissance. That linen sweater looks a winner.
Tweed jacket does look great on you, you’re right about the sleeve length (I was looking at it sideways until I read the text).

  11. Love it when you try things out for us! I am off to check out that linen tee (love anything with ties) and the red linen shirt! They both look fab on you by the way!

  12. Love your DRDā€™s! I especially liked the dress with the coral cardigan, very cute! Actually they ALL look great on you. Fun choices! Lots of inspiration in this set.

  13. Great Dressing Room Diaries today. Love all the outfits. You look fabulous in every one of them. Which means they would suit me too, as we are the same shape. I would not have thought about putting stripes and spots together ā€¦ but I will now.

  14. I love your hair pulled back like that!! Makes you look taller! Makes you look professional! Love it!

  15. I was just thinking this week that there was a hole in my wardrobe for some light 3/4 sleeve sweaters. I ordered a few colors with some of the same brand tanks. Thanks for the pictures!

  16. I love the poppy shirt and olive green slacks is my favorite! I also love the last outfit with the gray sweater. The blush pink blouse with the tie sleeve is gorgeous. For the last year or so I was on the look out for Chanel style jacket but after trying many on I’ve found them too boxy on my frame. I like the color of this one. Thanks for doing these dressing room diaries.

  17. Carole Fletcher says:

Thanks Jennifer, I liked everything you showed today. I ordered the pants in lavender and like you they will hit at the ankle.

    1. That lavender is gorgeous. My store didnā€™t stock it. So pretty.

  18. Love those polka dot jeans!

  19. I really like the pale pink tiered top on you. Looks like you had a very successful shopping spree.
I started my spring shopping with a new wrap coat, and then some slip on sneakers, ankle pants, a few tops and a yellow handbag, none of which I’ve been able to wear yet as we still have winter temperatures. In fact, we had an ice storm followed by snow overnight. Longing for spring to arrive.

    1. Iā€™m loving slip on sneakers. Which ones did you choose.

      1. Keds double decker in white sequin and 2 Marianne styles from Naturalizer – one in a silver/black “snake” metallic and the other in black. All super comfy.
