Soft and Muted Outfit
Some days you want to be noticed and other days, you prefer a more subtle outfit. That doesn’t mean you want to fade into the scenery, but you want to make less of a statement while still looking nice. Today’s ootd is just that. A soft and muted outfit with a little shine, and a little flow.
As always, you can click the red text for more info and to shop the item.
Clothes and the colors we wear have a strong influence over the way other people perceive us. They also influence how we think and feel about ourselves. Softer, muted colors leave a quiet impression and feel gentle to wear.
It’s funny, but the website describes this wrap as bold, yet I find it soft and muted. It makes a gentle statement to me, perhaps because I’ve paired it with quiet colors. I like that this ruana has stitched openings to put your arms through because it helps it stay in place better than wraps with no structure. It’s a muted blend of warm and cool tones so it would flatter many women’s complexion.
It has some soft animal print, mixed with soft sage and what they describe as a status print, which I take to mean patterns you would see on designer scarves. It’s a casual look with an elegant vibe that isn’t fussy. This wrap would look equally at home over blue jeans and a sweater with sneakers. It would also look great over a sweater dress with suede knee boots.
The blouse is a pop-over style with a few buttons down the front neck and pleats in the front for a feminine shape. Its ecru color is soft rather than pure white so it has a gentle look as well. It comes in sizes 0/2 – 20/22. I am wearing a 4/6.
I chose a simple strand of pearls, similar here, that have a soft luster and would not compete with this lovely Foliole Brooch. I’m so proud to share that Dean Davidson is donating 100% of the proceeds of each brooch sold, to the We Matter organization which is dedicated to providing hope and support for Indigenous youth. You can read more about the We Matter campaign here.
The chocolate pull-on jeans are a nice break from blue denim which I’m feeling a bit tired of. It’s nice to mix things up and I’m finding that colored denim, corduroy, cotton twill, wool, and knit pants are a great option. These come in 6 gorgeous colors in regular, petite, and tall, sizes 0-20. I am wearing a 6.
My choice would have been a soft brown or taupe, suede flats, but I don’t own those so I paired this look with these platinum ballet flats and think I like this combo better! It subtly picks up the special brooch, the gold tones in the wrap, and my hair color.
*Style Tip- Women should always own a pair of shoes that match the color of their hair because they will go with everything in your wardrobe because they match you!
Today is the last day of Dean Davidson’s private 30% sale with the code DDVIP30 at checkout. If you’ve had your eye on something, today is a good day to treat yourself.
Do you wear colors based on your mood?
Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.
The style tip today was so good. I’ve never thought of that. That ruana is gorgeous! The coloring is perfect for so many outfits.
I never knew it was called a ruana! I like it! Great outfit.
I’ve never heard the tip about owning shoes the colour of your hair before. What an interesting idea, but not sure what colour I’d be looking for since my natural colour is a mix of salt, pepper, and several other spices!
What a beautiful ruana, and it’s perfect with your colouring.
I really like it too:)
Jennifer, I haven’t commented in awhile but I had to today. You look gorgeous and so classy here! Beautiful colors on you and everything about the outfit is perfect.
Thank you, Debbie
I think silver flats would look nice too. I have days where I don’t want to be noticed. Maybe I’m tired or not feeling well. Subtle goes good on those days. Got my dressing all together today. It is ready to be put in pan Thursday morning. I feel like I’m half way there to get that out of the way.
In Canada brown jeans or jeggings are the unicorn, they don’t exsist here! Maybe in a couple of years we will get with the times
Hi…….absolutely love the Ruana wrap. Was wondering if I could wear it over a
Camel camel colored wrap coat I got from Chico’s last year ? Unfortunately I didn’t get the
coat in time for winter wear because of all the delays in shipping. But when I saw the wrap I think
It would go perfect
It would be gorgeous over the camel.
What a lovely outfit — those soft, muted colors really suit you.
The brooch is a nice touch on your shirt collar. Curious, though, if it leaves a mark?
It did not leave a mark, which actually surprised me.
Don’t know what season you are, but these colors looked great on you.
Thanks, Barbara.
This outfit is a winner! Happy Thanksgiving!
Absolutely gorgeous outfit. The colors compliment you so well, and your accessories add just the right touch!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. I know you are excited that your daughter will be spending the holiday with you. Have a great day🥰
This is one of my favorite outfits on you! Absolutely gorgeous tones and colors. Stunning on you.
I like this too. I could see the shawl being very versatile. As one of the other commenters said, the outfit enhances your natural beauty without being overpowering. I really like the combination of colors and the shoes.
I would wear this! My kind of outfit and colors!
I really like this outfit on you. Those jeans look great. I like those shoes too. Are they comfy?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
The shoes are comfy. I wouldn’t wear them for a long 12 hour day of walking, but they’re great for daily use. Happy Thanksgiving!
I love this outfit Jennifer and the colors look great on you, your face really pops and draws you in…you’re wearing the clothes rather than the clothes wearing you. Really pretty! The pants are a great switch up too. Love the whole outfit!
Thank you so much Kate. I feel great wearing it too.
Very pretty shawl, both warm and cool tones, interesting. I like the pearls on you, and the pant color is a nice change from jeans I agree.
I’m needing a break from jeans so on the hunt.
Beautiful outfit Jennifer! I couldn’t resist ordering the ruana, it will blend nicely with several tops and bottoms in my closet! Thank you for a great post
Blending into your wardrobe is a perfect criteria for adding pieces.
You look happy combining these pieces. Aren’t metallic shoes (and bags) versatile!
Yes!
I love this entire outfit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this outfit & would wear every piece. I’m much more comfortable in the softer, more muted colors.
I think it’s important to pay attention to what colors we feel best in. Flattering is one thing, comfortable and confidence takes precedence in my book:)
Love your style tip about shoe color matching your hair color…great idea!
I love this outfit on you also….I love the whole outfit, colour & fit…..
