Sustainable Fashion to Keep You Warm

Happy Tuesday ladies. Today I’m bringing you a cold-weather outfit because it’s coat weather in so many places. I’m also sharing some sustainable fashion from Nordstrom because it’s plentiful and much of it is on sale.

This post is sponsored byĀ Nordstrom and ShopStyle Collective. Thanks for supporting the brands that support AWSL.

As always you can click the red text for more info and to shop the item.

My Softly Glam Puffer coat arrived from Nordstrom and I couldn’t be more thrilled with it because it’s comfy and gorgeous. At a time when we’re all thinking of ways to be more thoughtful with our purchases and support sustainable practices, this coat ticks all the boxes. The plus-size version is here.

Bernardo is committed to upholding the global Responsible Down Standard, ensuring that all its down-filled coats are created with feathers from birds that have been humanely treated. This coat goes one step further because it’s filled with cruelty-free insulation that’s made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. You know how much I love that! That also makes it hypoallergenic. I also love this brand because they make their coats in plus size up to 3X. It’s important to support brands that recognize women come in all shapes and sizes.

It comes in three gorgeous shades. I ordered the small which fit but ended up exchanging it for the medium so I can layer it over warm sweaters…although I don’t think I’ll need to. This Eco Plume Walker coat was in close contention for me too because the color is so fabulous! The outer shell has a water-resistant treatment to protect it from the elements too.

This inner vest-looking section is a removable zip bib you could use for an extra layer of warmth or open the outer zipper as you warm up. You can also just unzip and remove those vest panels.

The smocked side panels and chevron quilting are nothing short of art on this coat and are very slimming. Puffer coats can make you look like a hot air balloon if they’re not designed well, and this one is.

QUILTED VEST

If a full coat is too much for you, Bernardo makes lots of vests, both long and short. The quilting pattern on the back of this vest caught my eye.

I don’t need a coat this warm in my local environment too often but we have trips to Tahoe planned this winter and of course, I’ll be heading back to Canada to see my daughter and brothers so this coat will be perfect because it crushes down easily and packs into a tiny pouch for travel.

Nordstrom carries a large selection of Bernardo Coats here, many marked down and would make a great gift.

As I move towards dark neutrals other than black, I’m finding chocolate brown a great option. These Joss Knit Booties are made from leather and a stretch knit that’s made from recycled fibers. The top section stretches so they don’t pinch anywhere and the block heel is stable. I also like this Aesop Bootie with a lower heel, which is similar to this Clever Knit Bootie I have in charcoal and wore this past weekend. I’m pleased as punch to have discovered these knit flats and booties!

My Slim Ankle Pants are also not black and a happy new addition to my growing collection of these amazing pants! I have 3 pairs in black, one navy, one ivory, and now this Espresso. They machine wash and dry, wear like iron, travel like a dream, and are the perfect pant to replace leggings for a stepped-up, comfortable look. I also have my eye on the Barley color because it’s such a versatile neutral.

This time of year, Nordstrom has some of the best gifts for everyone on your list at great prices. I always think of Nordstrom as my favorite gifting destination, and if I’m out of ideas, I give a holiday gift card! You can find lots more sustainable options here.

Let’s face it, online shopping has challenges which is one of the reasons I love shopping at Nordstrom. They offer free shipping and returns every day which allows me to order several sizes, decide what fits best then return what doesn’t fit, at no cost to me. Joining the Nordy club hereĀ is free and allows you to earn points towards notes you can use to shop plus you get free basic alterations. They also offer BOPUS, ROTUS (reserve online, try on in-store), and curbside pickup.

Thanks for reading ladies and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. What a fantastic look- that coat is perfect on you! Beautiful paired with those pants and boots too.

I love this coat and it is a great color on you. My weather does not get cold enough to warrant a puffer coat, but if it did I would go for this one.

    Good morning!
I love the turquoise sweater where did you get it and the necklace you are wearing? Your classic casual silhouettes are perfect. The colors you choose are often ones I cannot wear but there are always other options. I was classified as a winter or a light bright, at one time but as I tradition to a more natural hair color (salt and pepper) I wonder if I should adjust. Are there any color companies out there anymore?

    1. Hi Cristi, my sweater is here, and it’s on sale. I have interviews with several experts upcoming that will help you with your color transition. Interestingly, I was just typed light summer and told to wear brighter colors. Light summer shares many properties with bright winter.

  4. The coat is definitely a great color for you. It looks terrific. I’m also interested in your lipstick color. It looks just right for winter. Would you please share that?

    1. What the name of the brand and color?

  5. Puffer coats are good when it is really cold. I like how they pack for travel. We don’t wear them very much in Texas, unless it is freezing . We get this kind of weather sometime between January-February, maybe a week. I have all kinds of coats , but mostly lightweight , no wool or wool blends. I do need a warmer coat when we travel.

We are supposed to be going to UK for Christmas, if we don’t get shut down from the UK over this new variant. It will be cold in the UK , so I will bring my quilted coat and layers. Looking forward to seeing my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter and daughter.

    1. I bet you are! I do hope youā€™re able to go, Donna

  6. The challenge with selections from Nordstrom — especially with Bernardo — is that they don’t seem to recognize petites (or tall ladies). For me that rules out postings that promote clothing that I can never wear. On a happier note, I searched Bernardo on the Nordstrom site. There are just two items, but one is the Bernardo Packable Hooded Walker Coat, which is sort of similar to the coat you’re wearing — and it’s on sale for $128!

    1. Thatā€™s a great find, Maeve! Petites are getting harder and harder to find.

  7. Leslie Greaves Radloff says:

I bought this jacket last year for walks and running around during our cold but in-between days of winter when my heavy down Land’s End (for 30 below zero) are too heavy. I bought a soft black and it’s fine. My biggest objections are the packet which is opposite from usual, the gold detail and logo. Very nice are the straps inside that let you wear the jacket over your shoulders when inside. Great for museums for that reason and weight. Bunches well for travel, though not real small.

    1. I didnā€™t see those straps! Iā€™ll look for them.

  8. Would you tell what brand the slim ankle pants are? My new internet is blocking your link. They look really comfortable.

    1. They are very, very comfy. Here they are -https://shopstyle.it/l/bBjQi
