And just like that, the weekend is upon us. We took a short trip to the Bay Area last week and stayed at the historic Berkeley City Club. It’s an amazing little architectural gem designed by Julia Morgan. They nicknamed it “The Little Castle” because of its resemblance to the Hearst Castle, which she also designed.
It was originally designed as a women’s club, which opened its doors in 1930. This fabulous place has undergone many changes over the years and is now a charming hotel and private club for men and women. The BCC also has a fantastic restaurant and is often booked for weddings and cultural events.

In today’s post I received multiple messages saying Java Script was not enabled. Despite taking various steps to ensure Java Script was enabled on my computer ( Windows 10) I still could not access the whole post. Has anyone else had the same problem?
Iām not sure what that means. Iāll ask my technical fellow.

Julia Morgan what quite prolific wasn’t she? We have a couple of examples of her architecture here in lil-old Chico (President’s Mansion being one). They are incredible.

As for Julia Morgan- a Julia Morgan house came on the market in Petaluma ( we are in Southern CA) It was all original, needed a lot of restoration ( we are committed preservationists) and we were smitten. Contacted our realtor, he contacted the seller, etc ( estate)
Within days-the house sold for all cash and $1 M ( yes $1 Million) over the asked price of $1.5 M. well-that took us out of the running all together! Oh well-it was a dream for awhile. Enjoy your trip and we will see you on the other side.
