Weekend reading 05.09.26
Happy weekend, ladies! It promises to be a fun one. We decided to use our newest machine-washable rug outside to make our seating area feel more connected. We have an extendible awning I can put out, which keeps me in the shade when it’s bright out.

It’s UV-resistant and can also be used indoors. It’s a jute-inspired weave that feels soft and comfy underfoot.
Bestsellers this week, what you loved:
- The Wedge Sandals you see me wear on repeat (because they’re so comfy), are a huge bestseller again this week.
- These Chicos Slim ankle pants flew out the door this week. I love how they fit, and they’re very comfortable.
- This Prequel Face & Body Wash was very popular this week…and had nothing to do with me showing my naked reflection in the post 🙂
- This Embroidered Cotton Dress sold to so many readers last week, I bought it to take on my trip. The cotton is substantial, and it hangs really nicely.
- My Jenny Birds Hoops were also very popular this week. I reach for them more days than not.
- The Tommy Bahama Two Palms Linen Utility Jacket was also very popular this week…possibly because it’s marked down. I have it in two colors and love it!
Picks from the weekend sales:
RING CONCIERGE SPRING SALE 20% off sitewide until May 11.
- This Pearl Station bracelet is so pretty, and it’s very affordable.
- I think this Pavé Diamond ring is stunning.
- It’s hard to go wrong with a classic Tennis bracelet.
- I wish this Mother of Pearl Star pendant came in white gold. It’s striking.
AMAZON’S SUMMER BEAUTY EVENT is on until May 10. I zeroed in on the sunscreens because our family can have too many.
- My favorite ISDIN sunscreen is 25% off, which is helpful because it’s expensive.
- This Neutrogena Dry Touch 70SPF is 63% off.
NORDSTROM’s Savings Event is on until May 11. Here’s what I own and love, that’s included in the sale:
CHICO’S has 25% off your purchase. There are lots of fun new animal prints, including this no-iron linen shirt.
ANN TAYLOR MOTHER’S DAY SALE has 40% off everything.
NORDSTROM RACK has up to 70% new markdowns. Sizes are going fast!! Here’s what I spotted:
In case you missed it:
- Monday musings: Beauty Myths, Revivals, and Baring It All
- Tuesday, we revisited Ageism and Style over 60
- Chico’s try-on: cotton, linen, and easy pull-on pants.
- How to build a classic wardrobe that looks modern.
Have a great weekend, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

I agree with others that Louise Penny is a wonderful writer! I “discovered” her only a couple of years ago and wish it had been sooner. I’m on book No. 14 in the Three Pines/Inspector Gamache series and I feel like I know these characters very well. I have also learned so much about Canada and Canadian culture, which has been very interesting.
I also read Ms. Penny’s book co-authored with Hillary Clinton. It was fascinating!
Enjoy reading her excellent books!
I have followed you for a few years, Jennifer. I always look forward to your posts.
A couple of years ago you posted pictures of your Quark expedition to Svalbard. It inspired us to book the same trip. My husband is a geologist and spent time on a work expedition there many years ago.
We are leaving in early June. Any ideas or suggestions based on your experience that you would be willing to share?
Thank you.
Be sure to spend a couple of extra days in Helsinki. Everyone was very casual on the entire trip. I also recommend a clear plastic lanyard case to hold your cell phone.
Hi Jennifer, Totally agree Louise Penny is amazing, but be forewarned she did go through a period in which her writing got very dark. (I can’t recall which book it started with.) She came out of it, but I found it hard to take, as did many of my friends who also love her writing.
Louise Penny is great! I’m almost ready to reread the series. Also, she co wrote a book with Hillary Clinton about drama in a Secretary of State’s office. It was a great story and, of course, with Hillary’s insights of the SOS, it was well written and a fairly fast read.
Happy weekend to all!
Same to you Marcia!
Jennifer, what size do you wear in the Tommy Bahama jacket? Whatever size you wear, I would probably wear a size larger.
I really enjoy reading your blog.
I bought a small. I like the waist cinched and don’t close it. I did button it once and had to loosen the waist tie, but it was easy to snug up again.
Did I see a pair of Munro sneakers yesterday? Are they back in business?
They are! They were purchase by another company and making shoes again. My feet are thrilled.
Just a quick comment about Louise Penny-
Her books are amazing! She is a Toronto born girl, attending Lawrence Park Collegiate with a friend of mine. She now lives in a wee village in the Eastern townships of Quebec, fashioning 3 pines after that locale.
There are some tv series based on her books too.
She also collaborated with Hilary Clayton on a novel. Very cool woman and superb mystery writer.
Enjoy!
She’s an amazing writer! I grew up in Toronto until middle school, when we moved to New York.
