Weekend Reading 5.24.25

Happy weekend! We were supposed to be on a plane to Vancouver today, but the airline canceled our flight due to “technical” difficulties. As annoying as that is, I’d rather postpone my trip and wait for a fully functional aircraft, wouldn’t you?

SWEATER TANK TOP size M / KELSEY FLARE PANT size 8 / COTTON CARDIGAN OVER SHOULDER / SANDALS / SIMILAR LINK NECKLACE

I headed right to the stores to try on a few more outfits because I won’t be able to do that as easily while we are away. Yesterday, I tried this outfit on a J.Crew Factory. I’ll have more for you later, but they’re currently having a 70% off Memorial Day sale you might want to check out. BTW, I’ve been wearing these mesh sandals on repeat. They’re a great neutral…have silver-toned buckles…and are very comfy.

What’s on my radar:

I’ve been digging into cooler neutrals for summer, and I’m on the hunt for softer options. That’s not an easy feat because US brands seem stuck in a warm rut these days. I want a soft dove, cool beige, stormy blues, and colors of the sea without yellow undertones. Here’s what I’ve found so far:

Bestsellers of the week:

Memorial Day Sales:

The sales are plentiful, and I’m perusing many. What sales are you shopping?

ROTHY’S has up to 30% off everything, including my cute new slides and these lightweight wedge sandals that may need to be mine. It’s hard to beat a comfy, machine-washable shoe made from recycled plastic bottles.

NORDSTROM: The half-yearly sale is on and not to be missed!

In case you missed it:

Have a wonderful weekend and do something fun for yourself.

  1. Kudos tor you, Jennifer, getting your screenings done in spite of the anxiety and fear they can cause. And congrats on the good results. Its very important for us to keep up with our doctor-recommended screenings! You are a great role model. Thanks for the inspiration.

I hear you on the scanxiety. I had breast cancer surgery & radiation treatment 2 years ago , and have had the ‘ all clear’ on mammograms since then. Heading to mammogram on June 5 , and my friend Fear of Recurrence has taken up residence in my head. I’m thinking positively & refusing to listen to FoR!

    1. Sending positive thoughts your way! I have scanxiety about so many things.

  3. The mountains have disappeared in the heavy dark clouds today here. It is windy, damp and chilly. We plan a quiet weekend indoors. I hope you get back to Vancouver for your vacation. You always enjoy getting up there. Being safe in the air is important so waiting a day for a problem free plane sounds good to me.
I’m a cool tone woman too and prefer the blues, greys and cool neutrals when I can find them. I love my Caslon linen and rayon pants from Nordstrom! They are on sale, very soft and cool on hot days.
My Mamogram is coming up in July. There isn’t any breast cancer in my family but I don’t want to be the first. So I too worry until the results. I check my breasts in the shower as well. I found a lump about 25 years ago and had surgery to remove what turned out to be a cluster of cysts. I haven’t had any cysts since then but I check. I’m so glad that your lung CT cleared you again this year. Have a wonderful vacation in Vancouver.

    1. Have a cozy weekend Sydney and sending good vibes for your mammogramn!

  4. Love that pink and black! Glad your medical news is so good. I’m waiting for a diagnostic mammogram to check out a lump my GYN found. Earliest appointment is in two months. I really don’t think it’s anything, but I would like to get it sorted out before the end of July.

    1. Fingers crossed for you Elisa. Waiting is so hard!

  5. Good test results….yay! Glad to hear that. Hope flights are resolved and you’re soon on your way soon. Enjoy the weekend!

  6. Such good news about your CT scan. I too have a history of breast cancer in my family. My mother died from breast cancer when I was 19. My grandmother and aunt caught their’s early. We are having a streak of clear weather up north so enjoy when you get here! Safe travels!

    1. It’s scary. So sorry to hear about our mom!

  7. So glad you had good test results. I am having my mammogram in a few weeks. I get really apprehensive as I had breast cancer. 11 years cancer free now 🤞

    1. Sending positive vibes your way, Rosemary

  8. Elizabeth says:

I always feel a big relief when I get a good mammogram report! I do feel your frustrations when shopping, so many warm colors!! Warm toned people are having their moment! 🙂

    1. They are but I’m determined to find cooler options for us.

  9. Good news on your lung CT test and positive thoughts for your mammo. I know what you mean about waiting for test results – my mother also had breast cancer and every year I have the test I feel apprehensive.
It’s a pain to have a trip interrupted, but I’d definitely be glad to wait for a plane without technical difficulties! You mentioned the J Crew Factory – we recently got one in my area and I went into it for the first time. I found a really nice gauze shirt on their sale! I’ll be checking out that JJill linen shirt – do you think that the linen is soft on that shirt?

    1. It’s a crisp linen, until you wash it then if softens. It doesn’t ever become a heavyweight drapey linen though. Eileen Fisher has linen like that.

  10. Glad your ct scan was clear. I be hoping for a good mamo for you too. Hope you can go on your trip soon.

  11. Hi Jennifer, I want to let you know how much I enjoy reading your emails every morning. I am turning 68 next month and find your advice on various topics of women our age range incredibly useful and inspirational.
    Thank you very much!

    1. Thank you Mary Ellen! I’m so glad you’re enjoying them.

    2. Glad you are healthy!

Love the bright pink tank you featured at the top of today’s blog. It brightens up the black so well. I too have been reaching for a nude shoe with black ensembles, it is so much more modern than the boring matching black sandal or slide.

Enjoy your vacation when you finally get to go!

  12. Pat Patterson says:

    Good morning
Very excellent news on your health,
Despite you trip being cancelled, go out, have a most delicious meal with your hubby and celebrate life!

    1. Thanks Pat! Have a great weekend.

  13. Good Morning Jennifer and Happy Weekend. Congratulations on those test results. Such a relief when that nagging worry in the back on one’s mind is set free. I wanted to let you know that I finally made it to the Levi’s store at the mall. What a pleasant experience. I tried the ribcage jeans … still thinking about those, but did buy a pair of 724 high rise straight legs. Most comfortable jeans I’ve had on in years. Soft and stretchy, I hope they keep their shape like promised. They didn’t have my inseam in stock, but they offer two free hems per year. Love that store. Safe travels to Vancouver.

    1. Yay! I’ll check out that style. Sometimes the original oldies are better than all the fancy “designer” options. Thanks for letting me know.

  14. Those Sofft blue sandals are darling, and I may have to buy them! Such a comfortable brand too. Sorry about your cancelled flight. Happy to hear about your good test results, though. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

  15. Congratulations on your scan results! Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks Yvonne. Have great weekend! xo

  16. Thanks for sharing all the good sales info. I just picked up 2 great lightweight sweaters from Nordstrom when I saw your info today. Appreciate your pulling it all together for us! Happy holiday weekend as we honor those who gave service to our country.
