What a Woman Over 50 Wears to a Baby Shower

What a Woman Over 50 Wears to a Baby Shower

Did you know, wearing texture, reduces the appearance of facial wrinkles texture on the woman over 50? It does and it’s a simple trick I use often. The older I get, the more texture I add to my tops! Pattern does the same thing. I only wear pattern in scarves. Which works because they’re worn near my face. This week I’m sharing my newest top with texture.

Style has the power to transform your confidence.

The trend is for young mothers to be registered so they get what they want. I’m old-fashioned. I like to give hand-knit baby things. I gave these at my girlfriend’s shower for her daughter. She was having twins!

I like to give handknits at baby showers.

One hat is a Tomato and the other is a Pumpkin.

Unique fashion for the Woman Over 50.

I chose this mid-length tunic in a soft shade. The elbow-length sleeves help the petite woman (me) appear taller. It has permanent, broomstick pleats at the waist, to slim my shape and fun zigzag pleats at the bottom.

I chose to wear it with slim black pants and low heeled, suede shoes. The low vamp and peep toe on this shoe help my legs appear longer.

Wearing texture is very flattering for the woman over 50. It reduces the appearance of texture/wrinkles on our face.

A close up of the pleats on this dress.

I’m wearing a necklace in my eye color which coordinates with this dress.

STYLE TIP~ Wearing your eye color makes you appear more trustworthy.

Professional fashion advice for the woman over 50. Tip-wearing texture smooths the appearance of facial skin.

What a sharp looking outfit! I also don’t do a ton of prints and prefer the prints in things like scarfs. You knitting is adorable.

I haven’t been to a baby shower in a gazillion years – I’ll have to wait for my grandchildren to get married – hopefully not for a few more years from now. At any rate, I love your outfit – it suits you perfectly.

Oh my I love that jacket. I am hopping right over there to check it out. I have been so good about not buying things you are going to get me in trouble on this one! It looks fabulous on you. I love every single thing you are wearing. You always look great but this one is the best yet. Good tip about the eye color I did not know that!!

This look is fantastic on you, Jen. I had never thought of the ‘texture’ working for a smoothing effect. Brilliant! I am newly enamored with the use of scarves and now I realize an additional benefit to the color and pattern.
Can you believe these warm temps??

    Facial Texture? LOL!

There are great tips, especially if you tend to wear tone-on-tone. You look divine in your textured dress 🙂

This dress is so, so cute on you! I love the texture and color of it and also the shiny black bag you paired with it. I always like to doll up for a baby shower, too!

Great tips. I had never heard that wearing patterns or texture would make a person appear younger although I am drawn to both so perhaps I realized it intuitively. Same for my preference for 3/4 sleeves as I, too, am on the petite side. The hats are adorable and you looked fabulous.

Thanks Rena. I think women know what’s best on them, they just need to listen to their intuition.

Love the dress, looks beautiful on you. Love the shoes. During our long winters in Canada I seem to get into a rut and wear the same outfits – minus scarves and sometimes even jewellery! Many thanks for all your fashion tips.

Have been knitting for 71 years and cannot imagine how many shower gifts ….. love to knit for babies and toddlers.

It’s easy to get in a rut. I do too sometimes. Then the minute I fix myself up I remember why I should! It always makes me feel better about myself.

Great outfit Jennifer! I just started thinking today about what to wear to a casual baby shower in May, near 80˚. Probably a summer dress. Would you mind sharing the brand of those gorgeous low heel, peep toe sandals you’re wearing?? I love them and they look comfy!

Thanks Kim. The shoes are by Arche. It’s a French shoe maker. Very, very comfortabe!! I’ve had them for several years but there are some options in the widget below. Try Amazon or Nordstrom too!

Those hand knit hats are adorable!

    The dress is very unique.

Note to self: Toss out full wardrobe and only wear highly textured blue clothing.

I’m very interested to know how the 3/4 sleeve makes a petite woman look taller. Wouldn’t a short sleeve be better?

Short sleeves don’t have quite the same effect. They can sometimes contribute to a chopped look. It’s a funny thing about proportion.

Lovely piece – the texture and the color. Lovely model, as well!

I love handmade (or other unique, not from the registry) gifts for a baby shower. The hats you made are adorable!

I love this outfit! I hadn’t really thought of the effect of wearing texture & patterns near your face… Great tip!
