Where to Buy Narrow and Wide Width Shoes for Women

If you’re anything like me, uncomfortable shoes are out of the question. Finding the perfect pair of shoes can be a daunting task, but even more so when you have narrow or wide feet. You want comfort, style, and the right fit, but unfortunately, not every brand caters to unique widths. Today, I’m sharing the best places I’ve found to buy narrow and wide width shoes for women.

MARGAUX FLAT SANDALS / WHITE GAUCHO JEANS / STRIPED TEE / CHECKERED SHOULDER BAG / PACKABLE FEDORA

My feet are rather square…sort of like a spatula. That means many regular width shoes pinch and slim shapes are out of the question. Conversely, some wide widths are too loose. But the good news is, if they’re too wide, I can often adjust the width by adding insoles like these.

Where to Buy Wide-Width Shoes

I like to look for a wide width in certain styles because they have a larger toe box to accommodate my bunion. My favorite way to find wide or any unique width shoe is to go to a retailer website that carries multiple brands like Zappos or Nordstrom and filter for the width and size that I’m looking for. You can narrow it down further by style of shoe, color, etc.

Here are some great places to find wide shoes and footwear:

Where to Buy Narrow Width Shoes

Narrow shoes are essential for those with slim feet. Many AWSL readers have narrow feet and struggle to find shoes that fit. Be sure to check what Amazon carries, then try these:

Best Wide Width Shoes

Loafer: Vionic Willa II

VIONIC LOAFERS

These vionic loafers are pretty much perfect. They come in sizes 5-12 with a cushioned insole that you can remove to replace with an orthotic. I like that this loafer is sleek and will fit under the leg of trousers without buckles or a tongue that will catch on the pants. It comes in 11 colors to fit any wardrobe.

Flat: Vionic Klara Cap Toe Flat

With its stylish cap toe and supportive design, these Vionic flats would be great for running errands or dressing up for a casual outing. The Vionic orthotic support is very popular with AWSL readers and ensures your feet will stay happy for hours on your feet. These come in 13 colors in N, M, and W, sizes 5-12.

Boot: Lifestride Zayne Wedge Bootie

With a stylish wedge heel, these booties from Lifestride are great for casual outings and weekend adventures. The cushioned insole provides all-day comfort, while the side zipper makes it easy to slip on and off. They come in wide sizes 6-12 in three great neutrals, including grey.

Sandal: Margaux The Flat Sandal

MARGAUX FLAT SANDALS / WHITE GAUCHO JEANS / STRIPED TEE / CHECKERED SHOULDER BAG / PACKABLE FEDORA

I’ve owned and love this super comfy Margaux Flat sandal in a wide width for many years. The crisscross straps hold my foot in place and are perfectly placed to avoid my bunion. It’s handmade in Spain with a padded footbed. They have this sandal every summer in several colors and one print. They’re an investment I’ve never regretted making. Margaux shoes come in N, M, and W, sizes 3-14 which is an impressive range.

Heel: Naturalizer Vera Ankle Strap

I’ve always loved the comfort of Naturalizer shoes. This Vera heel from Naturalizer comes in 14 colors in N, M, and W widths. This type of block heel feels steady to walk in, no matter the terrain.

Sneaker: Hoka Clifton 9

I must have tried on a zillion pairs of Hokas before the sales gal finally brought out these ones in wide. I went up 2 sizes to get the best fit, and so I have plenty of room for my cushiony socks.

Best Narrow Shoes for Women

Loafer: Naturalizer Adiline Loafer

Naturalizer really does have one of the best selections of narrow shoes that I’ve found! I like the bulk that loafers like this add to the bottom of my silhouette when wearing chunky sweaters or wider-leg jeans.

Flat: Margaux Demi Flat

Obviously, I love these Margaux Demi ballet flats because I own them in three colors! I discovered this brand several years ago when Travel and Leisure rounded up the most comfortable flats on the market, and this “demi” took first place in the ballet flats category. They’re a totally classic, soft flat with a flexible leather sole, and plush foam insole. Their adjustable cord bow allows me to loosen it on my left foot for even more comfort over my bunion. They come in eight colors, several woven options, and a cap-toe option that just hit my cart. The size range is impressive from 3-14, in N, M, and W. The will also make custom options.

Heel: Munro Marianna Slingback Sandal

These shoes are new for me this year, and I’m thrilled with how comfy they are. I’ve long been a fan of the comfort of Munro shoes and boots and have been wearing them for years. They offer one of the largest size ranges in the industry and are incredibly comfortable. The silver and gold sizes of this slingback sandal are selling out fast, but the black has sizes 5-12 available in both wide, medium, and narrow.

Sneaker: Naturalizer Morrison 2.0 Lace Up Sneaker

I’m not sure about you all, but my feet are hoping the sneaker trend never ends. Not only can these metallic platform sneakers go with everything from shorts to dresses, but they are perfect for everything from errands to a day of traveling.

Boot: Munro Bradley II Boot

STRIPED CARDIGAN / BLACK JEANS / BOOTIES / SHOULDER BAG-RESALE

Munro is my absolute favorite brand to shop for boots. They’re comfortable, durable, and they come in a wide range of sizes. I’ve had these Munro Bradley boots for years, and find them invaluable in the fall and winter. The come in two colors, M, W, and WW, sizes 5-12.

I continue to pay for the sins of my youth spending untold hours in the sun totally unprotected! We didn’t know better, but that never makes me feel any better about it now as I have to contend with skin cancer! I am content to let my dermatologist use liquid nitrogen to treat the basal cell cancer areas on my body, but have been going to a plastic surgeon’s office to get Sciton TRL laser on my face because I tend to scar very easily and this does double duty – it gets rid of any cancer cells and also provides me with a “refresh” to my face that always makes me look and feel better about myself. I have done this every two years for many years now and have been able to stay ahead of the cancer game on my face and remain scar free at the same time! It’s just what has worked for me!

    1. I’m very worried about scars because my skin is so fragile. What’s your downtime with the Sciton?

  2. Thank you for putting together this list. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to find narrow footwear.

    1. I agree. Hope it is helpful

  3. Have dealt with wide feet all my life, from bunions to Mortons neuroma to arch issues. Finding shoes has been a nightmare until recently. I have come to love HotterUSA (England Based) Ortho Comfort and many of those you recommend.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation

  4. Wearing Vionic flip flops as my indoor house shoes for 2 years, has made my feet wider. Didn’t know that would happen. I sometimes experience metatarsalgia on my left foot behind my second toe & I wonder if it’s because the foot is gripping a lot when I wear the flip flops. Looking forward to being on the mainland for some shoe shopping- I’ll be trying these brands you’ve recommended.

    1. I have switched to the Rubber Arizona Birks for my house shoes and they don’t require gripping so you might like those

I agree with your comments about Maryland Square. Sometimes they even have widths that you don’t see on the manufacturer’s own site! But in this age of instant delivery, MS is terribly slow at shipping. It sometimes takes weeks for an order to arrive whereas Zappos delivers in a couple of days.

  6. I have very narrow feet, and I love San Antonio Shoes. They carry narrow and slim sizes, as well as wide ones. Their shoes used to be mainly functional and pretty plain, but they have some really attractive styles now. They are expensive, but the quality is superb.

  7. Another site for narrow widths is Ros Hommerson.

    1. Thanks for letting us know

  8. I have ordered some smaller sized shoes in the past from BA Mason. Spouse orders the larger sizes.

  9. Thanks for this post, Jennifer. I have wide feet and it’s nice to see some cute styles out there!

  10. Another good walking shoe brand with Wide options is Kuru. I used to wear Hokas, but they always made my feet look like a canoe paddle. I have a fixed bunion on one foot (hint: don’t do it!), but still wear a wide in the Kurus. They are much more supportive than my Hokas were…price about the same. I have a gray pair I wear for traveling when walking is involved.

    1. I agree about the look of Hokas, thanks for sharing Kuru, Laurie. My bunion wasn’t fixed but I’ve lost so much mobility in it that it hates to bend.

  11. Like you, I need a wide toe boot. Right now I’m favoring Brooks ghost max sneaker for running or walking. They are very comfortable and soft to walk in. Another favorite is the Easy Spirit Denise Walker running and walking shoes. I also wear 3 pairs of Easy spirit sandals. I have to have width and soft step and these are even better than my Skechers which also come in wide and narrow.

    1. Easy Spirits are so comfy!

  12. Hi, I have very narrow feet and wear size 11. Sometimes I can find narrow shoes at Marylandsquare.com. They carry various brands and
also carry wide shoes. Unfortunately, their shoes are not the most fashionable and they tend to carry many of the same shoes year after year.

    1. They do carry lots of hard to fit sizes!

  13. Thanks for all the info on narrow shoes.
Can be a challenge to find.

Thank you for the “Narrow Vendors” list, Jennifer. Another one that I shop is Trotters.

    1. Awesome! Thanks for sharing that resource Terri

  15. Thanks for this great list of shoes. My feet are on the narrow side but now I need a bigger toe box for a dislocated toe. I really like Nike and Adidas for tennis shoes. It’s dress shoes I have problems with but this list will certainly help me.

  16. Jennifer, I was so happy to see the title of this blog! I have narrow feet and am always on the lookout for shoes that come in narrow (& 1/2 sizes) or fit narrow.
Trotters also comes in narrow, medium, and wide in sizes 5 to 13.
Also, Puma & Nike run narrow. And recently I discovered Adidas runs narrow, too!
I did not know about Margaux and Vionic. Excited to peruse their sites!

    1. Thanks for sharing those brands!

    2. I’m a fan of Trotters. I have several pair. As a kid I had a AA width and a AAA heal. Buying shoes was difficult. Thanks for the post. It will help many women.

      1. I’m so glad it’s helpful. I know narrow feet are a really challenge.

    3. Try ASICS. They fit narrow, as well. Both of my girls wear them, as well as myself.

  17. Off topic somewhat… does anyone know of brands of athletic shoes that don’t come packaged with Micro-Pak stickers or sheets? So many companies have started using them, but it seems unnecessary to me, especially when a packet of silica gel desiccant could be used instead to ward off mold. Who wants a pesticide infiltrating something they will be wearing? It’s supposedly not harmful, but I have to wonder.

  18. One of your posts you were talking about the Silver Swans ballet classes. I took these a few years ago and loved them! The Calgary instructor was trained in the UK and a professional dancer when she was younger. Highly recommended!

    1. I haven’t heard back from the instructor I contacted so I’ll keep looking. They sound great.

  19. For wide and narrow sizes, check out SAS.(San Antonio Shoemakers) They sell sandals, sneakers, casual shoes, etc. Also Altra shoes makes some wide sneaker sizes and their design is a wide toe box. Both brands work for me.
