Look of the Week: Linen
It’s warming up nicely here and I couldnāt be happier. Of course, I shouldn’t complain because I do live in a mild climate but nothing feels more hopeful than sunny warm days and trees bursting with blossoms. The next thingĀ you know it’ll be summer and we’ll be bringingĀ out our lightest weightĀ clothes. Linen is my go-to for the hottest weather because it keeps me the coolest. Our new home is in a hotter climate than the Bay Area which means it really cooks here in the summer.
I added this newĀ
Beau Jours is designed with the busy woman in mind, taking her from running errands to dinner out with friends, without changing clothes.
This vests minimalisticĀ lines makeĀ itĀ a great chameleon for your wardrobe. Its straight silhouetteĀ is edged with ribbing along the pockets, armholes, front opening and hood. The knee-lengthĀ hemline is straight across the front then angles up in the back for an unexpected surprise.
The soft gray color is created with a special oil dyeingĀ process and the effect looks ethereal. To keep everything soft I paired it with a column of white and pale gray accessories. It would also look great tossed over leggings or even workout gear for that little bit of polish you need running to and from yoga or the gym.
I used to be neurotic about linen. I wanted it to look as crisp as a starched cotton shirt. Iād iron the living daylights out of it until it was smooth and stiff. Then five minutes after putting it on Iād be disappointed by the knife sharp wrinkles that set in the moment I moved!
No more. Lifeās too short for that. Iāve decided to care for my linen the modern way and wear it with insouciance. Itās casual elegance at its best.
The Vera Vest is machine wash gentle cold and machine dry. That means it comes out of the dryer with very soft wrinkles. I hang it warm from the dryer and steam it lightly to soften the biggest wrinkles and call it a day.
How do you care for your linen?
Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day.
Thanks to Artful Home for partnering on this post. They provided the vest and I was compensated; all opinions are my own.
I have to agree with all the others – your outfit and your hair looks great. I have been wearing linen forever and don’t mind the wrinkles at all. I wash in cold water and hang to dry then iron a just a bit.
You look great…hair to toes!! I really like this vest…what a perfect warm weather item to add. You look relaxed and happy in your new location!
Thanks Pam
Love, love linen and this outfit is wonderful. You taught me something I was unsure about – mixing fabrics together – I always thought linen tops had to go with linen bottoms. You have set me free.
Go for it! Mix to your hearts content.
Yes, love the stacked hair in the back. Like the 3 pieces that pulls everything together and hot weather appropriate.
Iām glad I caught this picture of my hair because I can show it to my new hairdresser…when I find her or him. Thanks!
Your outfit today is simple enough but all together looks wonderful. Itās that third piece that takes jeans & a tee from super casual to chic.
Jennifer, you might need to come north to escape the heat of summer in your new locale. Or, live in your bikini.????
Bikini? Moi? Not a chance but thanks for the laugh:)
This is great look on you, Jennifer! I love linen, wear it all the time in the summer. I line dry it, iron, and wear… no longer care if it wrinkles (I’m starting to like the wrinkles lol)
Thanks Lea. The wrinkles are growing on me too!
I love the linen gray vest, fabrication, color and cut. It’s a winner. The last photo of you in front of the fountain is over the top. Everything about it is perfect, foreground and back ground. Might want to think about it for your Christmas card 2018, LOL.
Thanks so much!! Youāre too sweet
I agree with everyone that your hair looks fantastic! Love the outfit, the color would look great with the blush pink accessories that are so popular this spring. I must confess I am too OCD to wear linen…just walking out the door in the hot and humid South causes massive wrinkles and limp fabric. It makes me feel too unkempt.
Itās taken me awhile to embrace the wrinkles š it would be great with the blush color!!
Like you, I love linen too, get over the creases and it’s pure Continental chic, and so comfortable to wear.
I totally agree!
I absolutely love this look! Great hair too!
Thank you
Just wanted to shout out….. your hair cut in the back looks great!! It’s layered a bit which makes it look fuller. Very cute on you. Have an awesome day.
Holly
Thank you Holly!! I hope a new stylist can duplicate it for me in my new area.
Absolutely love this entire outfit!
Hi JenniferāI love this outfit on you and especially the vest. Just wondering if the vest would work on a 5ā1ā petite body? Youāre a few inches taller and it seems to work for you but concerned it could overpower my frame, Could the vest be shortened with the edging it has? I wish Artful Home would carry petite sizes.
Hi Rita, yes this could absolutely be hemmed. And easily
I do love this look. I also think your hair looks fabulous!
Love this on you! Cool and stylish, love the shoes!
What’s vintage when it comes to linen??? I have several “oldish” items that I still. Ring out! Ok??
I love this vest and YOUR HAIR!
Thanks so much Shari. I was having a great hair day. Gotta embrace them:)
