I want support, coverage, and a suit that stays where I put it without requiring constant readjustment. I want straps that don’t dig, fabric that feels substantial, and enough structure to make me think someone involved in the design had actually met a grown woman.

My newest swimsuit is this Lands’ End SlenderSuit Grecian one-piece, and I love it. It feels secure, comfortable, and gives a little more coverage without looking frumpy. Lands’ End has long been one of the best places to shop for swimwear because the sizing is inclusive and their suits are made for women who actually plan to move in them. Their Tugless styles are also worth a look if you swim, take water aerobics, or just don’t want to spend the afternoon adjusting yourself in public.
La Blanca is the other brand I trust most. I’ve worn their suits for years because the fabric has real substance, the shaping feels supportive without being punishing, and the cuts are polished without looking matronly. Their cross-back, high-neck, and Island Goddess styles are especially good if you want a one-piece that feels secure, smooths the middle a bit, and still looks chic.

I ordered the swim suit from Amazon- and was very pleasantly surprised! It fit true to size and offers light control- and best of all-the straps are adjustable!! I find adjustable straps hard to find- even my expensive Miracle suits don’t have them, nor do my Land’s End suits. So thanks for the tip!

Hi, Jennifer. I’m getting caught up on this week’s posts and I really appreciated this post. The blue of the Lands End suit looks so great on you! To answer your question, I prefer a swimsuit that has full rear coverage and good support in the bust. I had tried several brands and found that Miraclesuit makes swimsuits that fit me best, look great, and lets me swim without feeling like I’m going to fall out of the top of it. What kind of coverups do you prefer? I have a few breathable lightweight but decently opaque caftans that I picked up on Amazon before doing our QM2 cruise to wear to and from the pool. I got lots of compliments on them and was even asked if I had bought them in one of the onboard shops. I’ve been using them ever since. Isn’t it funny that wearing something inexpensive that you are comfortable in can make people think you are wearing something pricey? I’ve never been comfortable showing much of my body in public even when I was a 105 pound 20 year-old, and am even less so now. Being able to find modest swimwear and coverups that make me feel comfortable gives me more motivation to go to the pool and swim instead of finding reasons not to go. Another nice thing is that you can find caftans in different lengths from knee-length to ankle-length. So it doesn’t matter if you are short or tall. You look great in the suits. I like them all. I just bought two suits. I like a suit that is one piece that has a design that is darker on the bottom and lightens as it moves toward the top. I also prefer a design that is the same on the front and back. I’ve seen so many suits where the front is colorful and the back is all black. That expanse of black is not flattering for me. I like a bit of high leg as it seems to elongate my 5’2″ figure. Swimsuits have come a long way and there are many nice styles and fabrics.
You are a brave soul to post swimsuit photos but as others have said, you look terrific! You look great in everything shown.
I second the recommendation for Lands End swimwear and recently snatched up an olive green high neck tankini top and matching swim skirt on sale. I don’t love exposing my upper chest and this provides perfect coverage. I have similar LE suits in other colors and they wear well.
I find two piece suits easier to deal with in the restroom when dealing with wet skin and wet suit!

A lot of good swimsuits here. I really like the flutter sleeve 1 piece suits from Anne Cole. They have a zip up style, which protects the chest from the sun, and little flutter sleeves to hide my under arm fat. Plus her prints are so colorful.

Believe it or not, I’ve found my best fitting swimsuits at Big 5 at great prices. I’m 5’4”, 145 lbs but have a small ribcage with large breasts. I wear a 32H bra (Prima Donna). My hips are 42”. So a swimsuit that fits my cup size is too large around the ribcage. My best solution has come with tankinis that have built in molded cups and a good sized vertical band down the back which I get in a smaller size to fit my ribcage in order to hold the cups in place, even though the cups aren’t quite there, and buy a size 12 bottom to go with it. Because of the tankini style, as long as the cups hold me in place, they don’t have to be that large. The swimsuits I found at Big 5 were called Free Country. Two other regular swimsuits that I found there that fit me well in a size 12 are made by AquaSphere. Since I bought these a few years ago, and bought extras, I haven’t bought any recently. At age 75, I’m past wearing two piece swimsuits which was my solution for many years.
You look great in all of those suits! I’m now in my 80’s and have worn Maxine of Hollywood one piece suits for the last 10 years and find that they hold up well and give me the coverage I need and desire. Oftentimes they are on sale at reasonable prices, too.

I have the Lands Ends Grecian and I love it! I was able to pick up a couple of suits at Lands End on sale. I think they were less than $50.00! We use our hot tub several nights a week so I need a few suits. Bravo to you for stepping out of your comfort zone with an orange suit. You look great in it.

A few years ago, I saw a returned swimsuit at my Chicos and I liked it so much I found it in my size on its website and bought it. It’s dark with a floral pattern and whenever I wear it, even in Florida, strangers come up and compliment me. Not accustomed to compliments on swimwear as an old lady. Chicos does seem to have a lot of swimwear, but I never see it in our store, so the website is worth a look.
I have a pool and a hot tub- I’m done with traditional suits! I wear a bikini top (never alone) , board shorts and a close fitting, stylish rash guard- some tanks, some long sleeve. I buy bright colors. I don’t feel dowdy, and more importantly, I feel confident. btw- 5’5, 120 lbs. I have nothing to cover up but at 64, I’m just done with being mostly naked in public.

Enjoyed the post and agree with another that cover ups at our age are just as important as the suit. My preference is 2 piece with tankini top. I love my miracle suit and the look of a few one piece suits I have but find it much easier to use the bathroom with the 2 piece ones. Lands end is one of my favs for rashguards and swim shorts and swim wear. Still looking for better hat options. Many say packable, but really aren’t.

They make many that are snug to the torso like a one piece. I hate that floating nonsense too.

My chest and shoulders got all the sun they needed in the 70’s and 80s, so I’m usually team Tugless + rash guard. For active stuff like floating I love Lands End swim shorts. I just tried on most of my swimwear and found that thankfully most of them still fit and are in good shape. Two years ago I bought several pairs of the 5″ swim shorts from Land’s End and also a few rash guards. I buy the rash guards one size up because I can’t stand them clingy. It works for me. Underneath them I wear either a tankini or bikini top. I’m very pale so sun protection is key for me. I can’t be bothered with self tanner and decided a long time ago that others’ opinions of my paleness don’t matter to me.

I think the high leg versions make the leg look slimmer. Land’s End is top-notch for swim suits. There is also an affordable variety in their Clearance section online.
I tend to agree with you. I prefer higher on me because my torso is long. I’ve just had a few precancerous spots burned off my upper leg in front of my hip, so I got this lower one for our trip.

These suits look great, but the really tough part is finding suits that support large breasts especially at our age. Very few brands work for those of us that are H cup and above. There are good brands like Panache and Fantasie and Freya (top dollar though!), but it still can be a struggle to find a suit that is supportive enough to be comfortable and isn’t a skimpy bikini.
I am 68 years old. About 10+ years ago I saw some morning show where the guest was a swimsuit designer who said, Dont worry as much about the swimsuit as the cover-up!
Focus on what you most want to cover (thighs? arms? belly?) and find a coverup that looks good with your suit and does what you most want. I have followed that advice for years!! Works for me.
Swim and Sweat has a nice line of chlorine resistant suits that are very popular with the ladies who do pool exercise at the Y where I swim. They hold up well and have a flattering fabric that is “crinkled”. They keep their color, shape and stretch very well.

I just use the self tanners on my legs and a bit on my arms. I never get dark enough that my face needs to blend. I’m just basically trying to knock down the white glare 🙂
Have you ever looked at Title 9 or Athleta? I’m a 65 yr old athlete, 5’4’, 34DDD with a menopausal stomach. These suits come in your specific bra size. They have bikinis, tankinis, board shorts, skirts and sport shorts. I’m also fair-skinned & self-conscious about my veins, so the shorts are wonderful. They hide the top of my thighs.

I’m a big fan of Land’s End’s High Neck Tankini. It provides good sun protection in the chest area and you don’t have to worry about anything falling out. 😄 The higher neck is actually very flattering. They’re so comfortable. Good for lap swimming, and as one reader mentioned you can mix and match the tops and bottoms.

I go to the Tommy Bahama store or online & purchase their full zip rash guard tops. Comfortable. Beautiful patterns with long sleeves & easy to remove when it’s all wet. I just wear a tankini underneath for support or a bikini top if not going to be out all day.

Because I’m tall with a long torso, I prefer a tankini over a one piece swimsuit. Last summer, I was fortunate to find one that fits well and looks good at Walmart for a very reasonable price.
Walmart has some great swim suits. I like tankini’s too.

It’s great to know there are so many swimsuits out there for women over 60. The Island suit looks beautiful on you. For me it’s not so much finding suit but it’s my skin I don’t want to show. I’m always looking for easy to use body makeup that really works. Needless to say it’s a real pain so I don’t put on a swimsuit often. Have you ever looked into body makeup?
I’m not fond of how my skin looks on my arms and legs either. I swear by self tanner but I know many ladies love body makeup.
I don’t tan and don’t live in a hot climate so have minimal use for swimsuits. The last one I bought was a LaBlanca Goddess, seen on your post a few years ago. I like that it has neither a scoop back nor a deep V front.

On a humorous note, you probably remember the early 90s sitcom Murphy Brown. In one episode, she (played by the gorgeous Candace Bergen) was having a day at work where absolutely nothing went well. At the end of the day she stood up and announced to her colleagues “After a day like today I can’t think of anything better to top it off than to stop at a department store on my way home and try on swimsuits under fluorescent lights”.

I’d have to throw my vote in for Land’s End. I’ve purchased two bottoms and two tops that are interchangeable. They’ve really worn well considering the amount of water aerobics I do. It has helped that I rinse them out in cold water after each use.

I swear by Speedo’s ‘Endurance fabric’ swimsuits (website) and have 4 so that I can use a dry one daily at my local pool . They are apparently indestructible but must be rinsed in water without soap or detergent after being used and then line dried . Before I discovered them I got through a swimsuit a year and they used to get so baggy !
