What’s New from Vancouver

The last few weeks have been chock full of trips and airplane travel so I’m very happy to be home. I flew to Vancouver last week to attend a business anniversary dinner for/with my daughter and celebrate Mother’s Day early with her. I see my daughter so seldom these days, our time together is very precious.

My daughter is so much taller than I am it looks like IĀ don’t have legs šŸ™‚

For the dinner, I wore a simple black dress and shoesĀ with just earrings and bracelets. I could have added a necklace but it felt overkill with the bracelets and rings I was wearing (which don’t show well in this photo).sunrise in Vancouver

After a rainyĀ evening, we awoke to bright sunny skies and headed out to explore. First stop, our favoriteĀ vegetarian restaurant, Heirloom,Ā for a fabulous brunch.

Their food is beyond amazing and you never miss the meat because their recipes are so delicious and creative. We both had Eggs Benedict with Kale CeasarĀ and breakfast potatoes.

I always gain weight when I visit my daughter because we eat here as often as possible during my trips and the portions are not small.

After brunch, we hit Nordstrom for a little shopping and laughs. My daughter is the only person I goĀ clothes shopping with, ever. We have so much fun.

We had 2 wonderful days together then I spent the rest of the week flat on my back with the cold from hell. My daughter surprised me with tickets to see Elizabeth Gilbert and we couldn’t attend because by then, she was getting sick. On day 5 I dragged myself to a medical clinic to find that I had bronchitis and needed an antibiotic. No wonder I couldn’t get off the couch! The worse part is that I gave the cold to her and she was just getting really sick when I had to leave.

I’m home now, on my couch, feeling marginally better but annoyed that the week with my daughter was ruined. Mr AWSL and I will be heading back to Vancouver in a few weeks for her MBA graduation ceremonies so I hope to spend more quality time with her then.

How’s your May going so far? Any colds where you are?

Thanks for reading and being here.

    1. I’m still working on it! She’s getting much faster than I am.

  1. Hi Jennifer–just wondering if you’re still doing your Sunday collobration with Pam Lutrell?

    1. Hi Rose, yes we’re just taking a break from it.

Enjoy your blog!!! Love your black dress and so sorry about your bronchitis. Do you ever wear panyhose with dresses and closed toe shoes or do you always go bare legged? If so what color and brand??? At age 70 my legs aren’t what thy used to be! ????

    1. I do wear panty hose occasionally. In fact I’d brought a sheer black pair but snagged them when I was getting dressed. I prefer sheer ones and usually choose Donna Karan hose. I wear them with open toes shoes and just ensure the toe seam is under the fronts of my toes so it doesn’t show.

  3. So sorry that most of your week in Vancouver was destroyed by poor health! I’m glad you get to go back soon. If I can convince my meat and potatoes guy to try a vegetarian restaurant, I’d love to give Heirloom a try. Have you ever eaten at Horizons on Burnaby Mountain near Simon Fraser University? We discovered it on our recent trip and will definitely be going back. Great food, wonderful service and a spectacular view.

No colds here at the moment, just feeling a little under the weather recovering from a cancer treatment.

    1. I hope you feel better soon, Elaine! Sending good thoughts your way. I haven’t tried Horizons but will make sure we go check it out next month.

Your black dress is beautiful you looked stunning! Your daughter is beautiful! I know what it is like to be so far away. One son, his wife and my granddaughter live in San Francisco, two sons and a grandson live in Santa Rosa and another son his wife and grandson and granddaughter live in Redding! Time with them is indeed precious. You have been traveling a lot and I have loved seeing your posts. ā¤ļø

    1. Thanks so much, Deborah! It is hard having our precious ones spread far and wide. Hopefully, you get to see them often.

  5. I’m listening to the bustle of the street from our open window in Barcelona at the moment – and sadly looking at our semi-packed cases for tomorrow’s departure. Sometimes I’m ready to return home, but this time I wish we could stay longer! It’s been a fabulous start to May, with wonderful Music and Markets guests who have loved each day of the tour as much as we have!
    Dreaming of the next trip….

    1. It sounds marvelous Anne. I have never been to Barcelona and look forward to seeing it. Traveling is so much fun. Safe travels

  6. So sorry you got sick! That’s no fun! I’m glad you are going back to Vancouver in a few weeks; hopefully, you’ll get to have lots of fun then!

    1. I’m really looking forward to it! Thanks, Andrea!

  7. How unfortunate to happen. Dare I say it may be something you can look back on and smile?? I’m leaving Monday for two weeks away with my daughter and new granddaughter and definitely know how much we cherish that time. At least you have some more daughter time coming up soon on the calendar. Hope you’re both feeling better soon!

    1. You will have such a wonderful time. Your granddaughter is simply darling!!

Jennifer, your daughter is beautiful and congratulations to her on her MBA. Sorry you got bronchitis…I had a bout with it last month…not fun! Vancouver is lovely! I’ve been going there since I was a teen, over 50 years ago! Absolutely love that city, though it has changed so much, of course. I studied French and loved that, at that time, there were a few French speaking people I could listen to. Whistler is gorgeous too…and Vancouver Island…and Banff…I’m from Seattle so just really miss that part of North America! Cheryl Ann

    1. Thanks, Cheryl, she is beautiful inside too:) I adore Whistler and miss our home on Vancouver Island VERY much! It’s a wonderful spot.

  9. My daughter lives a plane ride away, as well! I love shopping with her and never get to visit enough. What a drag that you got sick! I love your blog and look forward to your posts!!

    1. Thanks, Yvonne. You know what a drag it is to have them far away!

  10. Sorry to hear you got sick while visiting your daughter! That’s so annoying when that happens! At least you enjoyed some time with her. Colds are all around me and I’m hoping to avoid them since I have had a few since last fall. The weather is still miserable north of Toronto so no spring clothes yet for me!

    1. Yes, I’d rather be sick at home! Spring is coming very late for you, Janet but I bet it’s gorgeous when it does.
