Dressing Room Diaries: Shopping With My Daughter
Last weekend my daughter and I did some retail therapy at her beautiful Nordstrom in downtown Vancouver. The last time we shopped together was for their anniversary sale. This time was to pre-shop for Nordstrom triple points shopping day, which started Wednesday and ends the 7th.
My daughter needed some clothes for an upcoming trip to New York and I was just along for fun. I had no intention to buy anything but as it happens, there were treasures that I would have regretted not buying.
The first thing that caught my eye was this suede motorcycle jacket. I liked it so much I decided it deserved to be tried on without a turtleneck underneath so took several to the dressing room.
Motorcycle jackets are one of those classic, iconic items we’re advised should be in everywoman’s well-rounded wardrobe because they never go out of style and add a hip/cool vibe.
The truth is, I’ve never been a fan of them on me. The combination of shiny (stiff) leather, hard (angles) lines and cold zippers has never appealed to me. I was attracted to this one because of the color and suede fabric.
I liked it even better worn over an ivory top. This medium felt tight across the back on me. The sales gal insisted no one closes their motorcycle jacket…and I likely wouldn’t either but I believe our jacket should be able to close, to fit us properly.
Here it is in slate blue, one size up and I am able to close it. Keep in mind that I have very broad shoulders and wear a larger size on top but I do think it runs a bit small. I like this blue but decided to order the mint in my correct size for summer.
This ivory blouse was not a great design. The split sleeve would be awkward to wear anywhere. The design is pretty but doesn’t work for my life.
This bell sleeve off the shoulder top rang several bells for me. The sleeves were pretty and flowy but also cut high enough to stay out of the salad bar. It comes in several colors but I like the black as a contrast to its fluttery feminine details.
It’s been a great visit with my daughter but way too short. I’m flying home today and plan to stay put for a while. Three back to back trips has really wiped me out.
Thanks for reading and have a great day!

LOVE the light mint jacket on you!
That’s a beautiful jacket, Jennifer! I can see it styled so many different ways!
Glad you had a nice visit with your daughter!
Thanks, Andrea!
I feel the same way about biker jackets, stiff leather, angle lines and lots of heavy metal zips are not for me but the soft suade color is perfect on you.
I’ll see how this feels when I get it!
ALL LOOKS GOOD………………
You best catch up with that BIG BOY than call me!

I agree with everyone else… the mint jacket was definitely the right choice for you! Like you, I love the look of the ivory blouse, but the sleeves would be such a nuisance.
All I bought while I was in Vancouver was some cute socks when I dropped into Metrotown to pick up a new wallet for my Dad. Between caring for him and spending time with my grandsons, there’s never enough time for shopping when we’re in Vancouver. I’m glad you had the opportunity to shop with your daughter though. How fun!
Thank you, Elaine. It’s so nice to hear from you!
Love the jacket and blouse!! What’s your stay slim secret?? You look fabulous! Enjoy your well earned rest!
Jane
Thank you, Jane. No secret, I try to be careful but don’t eat gluten or meat. Stopping meat made an incredible difference
The mint color really lights you up – so glad you ordered the jacket!
I noticed that in the pictures too! 🙂 Thanks
I’m so glad to hear you ordered the mint jacket—it’s so interesting and such a stand out piece!!
Jodie

Jaymie
Thanks Jaymie! I never thought I’d wear a motorcycle jacket so this reminds me to never say never!
