When it comes to planning your next adventure, having the right wardrobe is crucial. After countless trips over the years, I’ve learned that there’s nothing better for a day of traveling than the perfect pair of travel pants. Whether you’re taking a road trip or boarding a flight, the right pair of breathable, wrinkle-resistant pants help ensure that you arrive at your destination looking polished and fresh. These pants also pack like a dream, and they are versatile enough to be dressed up or down, no matter what your itinerary looks like! Let’s look at some of the best women’s travel pants that are a must-have for your next trip.

Best Travel Pants for Women to Wear On Your Next Trip

Best Wrinkle Resistant: Athleta Endless

LINEN CARDIGAN size S / ATHLETA ENDLESS PANTS size 6 / TANK TOP size M CABLE HOOP EARRINGS / STRAW CROSSBODY BAG EASY SPIRIT SANDALS / FRAMES

My Athleta pants have been a valuable addition to my own travel wardrobe and are in constant rotation when I’m home, too! They come in a multitude of neutrals and are made with quick-drying fabric. These Endless pants come out of the washer and dryer, looking crisp and new. I also find they’ll look perfect after hand washing in a tiny sink.

Like brand new! A reader asked about the crease down the front, and as you can see, it survived two days of flying, sink washing, hand wringing, and hanging dry over the tub.

Best Pants with Stretch: Talbots Everyday Stretch Straight Leg Pants

EVERYDAY STRETCH STRAIGHT-LEG ANKLE PANTS

These T by Talbots pants are made with a stretch fabric that allows for easy movement and a great fit, making them perfect for both travel and everyday life. They’re available in both black and indigo blue, in regular, plus, and petite. Here are more items from T by Talbots.

Best Tummy Hiding: Chico’s Travelers Classic No Tummy Pants

NO TUMMY PANTS

Chico’s has a great line of wrinkle-resistant, travel-friendly clothing that looks amazing straight out of your suitcase. Their No Tummy Pants are famous for their comfy and flattering fit, thanks to their smooth, no-tummy waistband that helps create a sleek silhouette. They come in navy or black in regular up to size 20, petite, and tall sizes.

Best Linen Pants: Eileen Fisher Puckered Linen Pants

PUCKERED ORGANIC LINEN PANTS

I live in linen in the hot weather but seldom wear it for travel because of the wrinkle factor. Eileen Fisher’s new puckered linen solves that issue. This fabric has a drapey, soft feel that won’t show sharp creases the way other linen does. These tapered pants are in a blue and black check, plus she has other shapes and colors here.

Best Joggers: Vuori Performance Jogger

VUORI PERFORMANCE JOGGERS

I typically dress up a bit more than this to travel, but I know the majority of the population prefers to travel in athleisure. Loose, wide-leg sweatpants are the worst for airline travel because, while comfy, they’re hard to keep off the floor when using the facilities. Joggers like these are tight around the ankle, so they’re the perfect solution to that problem. This style comes in 13 colors in sizes XS-XL. I wear a S.

Best Sun Protective Pants: Lilly Pulitzer UPF 50+ Luxletic 28″ Corso Pant

LILY PULITZER CORSO PANT

AWSL readers know how passionately I feel about sun protection after my bout with melanoma. I’m always happy to discover more clothing items made with UPF 50+. Lilly Pulitzer is known for their bold and vibrant prints and patterns, but you can also find these pants in a solid black, navy, or blue, in sizes 00-16.

Best Leggings Alternative: Eileen Fisher Washable Crepe Pants

WASHABLE CREPE PANTS

I’ve seen far too many women wearing tights and exercise leggings as pants for airline travel. I understand the desire for comfort, but I believe there are better alternatives to exercise tights. These Eileen Fisher washable crepe pants have been a staple in my travel wardrobe for over 25 years. They have a slim shape, so I prefer a longer top but have also been known to wear them under a dress or long jacket. They come in a ton of colors, and she brings out new ones each season. I’m pretty sure the pair I retired last year was at least 18 years old…they last that long!

Best Ankle Pants: Athleta Brooklyn Mid-Rise Ankle Pant

BROOKLYN PANTS

I discovered Athleta’s Brooklyn pants many years ago and they’re on constant rotation in my wardrobe as much as the Endless. They’re great for working out, traveling, and everyday life. They come in six colors: regular length, petite, and tall. I’m wearing the color they call Abalone Grey, but it’s a light beige to my eyes. The petite is 2″ shorter than this and too short for me but great for gals who are truly petite.

Best Cargo Pants: Libin Women’s Cargo Joggers

LIBIN LIGHTWEIGHT CARGO JOGGERS

Cargo pants have tons of pockets, which make them super practical for travel! This pair comes in 16 colors and has more than 16K positive reviews. They have three zippered pockets and two large cargo pockets, so you can keep all of your essentials at arm’s reach. They’re also made with UPF 50+ fabric, which is lightweight and quick-drying.

Best Affordable Pants: CRZ YOGA 4-Way Stretch 7/8 Pants

CRZ 4-WAY STRETCH PANTS

It’s possible to find a great pair of travel pants without breaking the bank! This pair of ankle pants is only $35 and is available in 23 different shades. They were originally “inspired by” Lululemon’s best-selling “On the Fly” pants, which are now discontinued.

Best Splurge: Frank & Eileen Murphy Billion Dollar Pant

BILLION DOLLAR PANTS

I’ve splurged on a few Frank & Eileen pieces, and I’ve not been disappointed yet. I read a review for these “Billion Dollar Pants” that said, “part dress pants, part casual pants, part loungers”. Since I pack light, that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a travel pant… a pant that’s versatile enough to do it all while keeping me stylish and comfortable. They come in nine colors.

Do you have a travel pant to recommend?

Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. Yes. Also the LLBean with sun protection

  2. Great suggestions! Thanks! Saving…

  3. I love the Athleta Venice jogger. Incredibly comfortable and more polished than a normal jogger. Also love the Athleta endless and Brooklyn pants you mentioned plus the Brooklyn cargo pants which has lots of zipped pockets. For Eileen Fisher, I prefer the full crepe pant (the wider waistband is more comfortable than the ankle pant that has a thin elastic band).

I am in search of a wider leg palazzo type pant to bring on my fall riverboat cruise trip if I want to dress up at night. Any suggestions?

    1. Talbots has a great black and ivory one right now and Chico’s often carries them. I prefer them in soft flowy fabrics

I love Eddie Bauer Guide and Guide pro pants. Trouser cut, neutral colors lots of pockets, dry in a flash, stretch fabric, super lightweight and packable. They look good in a city or on a trail.

    1. I love Eddie Bauer. Thanks for reminding me.

  5. We mostly travel back and forth to visit our daughter and grandson so that is a 10 – 11 hour drive. I love the jogger style for that exact reason you mentioned! Comfy but practical. Thank you for all the suggestions!

  6. Thank you for all of the suggestions in all price ranges. I appreciate that.

  7. I love J Jill Affinity slim leg pants, which I learned about on your blog! (Love your blog!) They don’t stretch out and wash like a dream—I have them in several colors.

  8. Great selection of easy to wear pants. I like to wear joggers to walk in everyday and these look really nice. I have some Baleaf joggers that I wear in the winter. They are lined and I’ve had them for years. Really warm and nice and they come in petite.

    1. I have a Baleaf pair with sun protection. They’re great!

  9. I love my Quince pants. I have the navy and the black in a petite length. They stretch, don’t wrinkle, and have a comfortable waist band. They are also very reasonably priced. A win win!

    1. Great to know! I love Quince

  10. Great suggestions. I agree, leggings and exercise tights belong at home or in the gym. Your options are comfy and stylish.

  11. I love my Quince Performance Tech Ankle Pants for travel and dog sports. Comparable to the Brooklyn pants but half the price.

    1. I’m only seeing these in men’s sizes. Is that what you buy? Are sizes similar to women’s?

      1. I’m showing women’s sizes

  12. I recently purchased JJill Pure Jill Affinity Slim Leg Pant. They are great so far! 🤞🤞🤞

  13. Thank you so much for this post! I am going on a 30 day trip to Italy, including an 18 day cruise, this upcoming October. I think I will just use your suggestions and shop online in August. Losing weight now so not sure of the sizes I will need. Still looking for some evening wear for dinner on the cruise, so I will keep watching your posts. You are a life saver!

    1. Have a fabulous trip! It sounds amazing.

  14. Too bad Eileen Fisher does not offer Tall pants. I’d love to buy some but would be too short. Same with Frank & Eileen. Disappointing.

    1. That is a shame. I’m sorry. Hopefully they will soon because the population is getting taller.

  15. Christine Arquilla says:

My favorite travel pants are are Ming Wang’s basic knit pull on pants. They don’t wrinkle and are very comfortable. They hand-wash well and dry very quickly. They are expensive but they last forever. I have a few pairs that I bought more than 10 years ago that still look and feel like new. Mine are full length but they also make them in ankle length. I took 2 pairs when my husband and I did a Transatlantic crossing on the the Queen Mary 2. They easily dressed up and down and take an incredibly small space to pack.

    1. That sounds like a great trip! We’ve talked about that trip as a great way to avoid jet lag when heading to Europe.

      1. Christine Arquilla says:

I’m sure you will enjoy it. It’s a wonderful way to travel.
