Classic White Denim Skirt
If denim is a staple in your wardrobe, as it is in mine, a denim skirt is a great basic to have on hand for the warmer weather. Today’s ootd is with a classic white denim skirt, simple cardigan, cotton tank top, and comfy sandals, similar here.
Denim skirts come in all shapes and lengths, but I’m usually drawn to the simple classic ones with 5 pocket styling and a mid-length that hovers around my knee area. They’re most flattering when they end at a spot where your leg narrows so I opt for ones that end just below my knee like this one.
Women wear shorts all the time, yet some avoid skirts because their legs show. Hmmm… our legs show in shorts too which aren’t as comfy as most skirts.
This super comfy skirt comes in sizes 0/XS – 20/22. It’s knee-length which varies with your height and for me, it hits just below my knee. The no-stain fabric has plenty of Lycra so it moves with you. The sides have a 4 1/2″ slit which helps when you need to climb in and out of the car.
I love that a white denim skirt can be dressed up or down with your choice of top, shoes, and accessories.

This cardigan is a cotton/viscose blend that’s a breathable fabric that will keep you cool on hot days. It comes in 7 colors, sizes XXS – XXL. The 3/4 sleeves have been requested by readers so I was thrilled to find one at such a budget-friendly price. I’m wearing a small which is plenty roomy so if you’re between sizes, I suggest you order down. This kind of little cardi also looks cute worn buttoned up as a top.
This classic cotton tank is one of those simple pieces I find invaluable during the summer. This wardrobe staple is perfect for layering but you can also wear it alone because the straps are wide enough to cover bra straps. It comes in 5 colors sizes 0-2 – 16 (18W). It runs true to size but I went up to a medium to keep it loose and easy to wear.
My woven earrings and pendant necklace are part of Dean Davidson’s latest woven collection. It draws inspiration from the basket-making on the island of Bali with gold strands woven together to form a remarkable texture. Each DD piece is made with his signature brushed 22-Karat Gold Finish and comes with a lifetime guarantee.
How cute is this fire-engine red golf cart? I don’t golf and have no earthly reason to own one, but if I did, this would fit the bill beautifully. There’s just something about tiny, shiny, red, and cute, that I find very appealing.
I finished this look with tan sandals, similar here, and here and a braided belt in the same shade of tan, similar here and here. Tan is a great neutral for shoes, bags, belts, etc with white. Metallics also work nicely and won’t overpower pale colors.
Are you a fan of denim skirts?
I am such a klutz that the white skirt would be covered in stains in an hour of putting it on.
Regarding skinny jeans being OUT, are slim leg jeans also on the way out?
I hope not. I like slim-leg jeans. Honestly, anything goes with denim this year, so you should wear what you like.
I have a white denim skirt in the closet with the tags still on! You’ve given me some great ideas.
Awesome!!
Love this outfit. So cool and summery.
I really like denim, but the white is perfect dressed up or down.
That outfit looks terrific on you! The denim skirt is nice and it looks like it’s a lighter weight denim.
Love the backdrop too…such a cute little red golf cart. I don’t wear denim too much, but I have a white cotton stretch skirt that I wear during the summer. When I wear a skirt, or shorts, which doesn’t happen that often, I like to use a self-tanner on my legs. I also have some leg “make-up” that I use on occasion. It just makes me more self-confident about my look.
I started using my self tanner as soon as it started warming up here. Every three days all summer long
Skirts with belts are outside my comfort zone so I pass or wear white denim pants with my shirt tied lower at waist. You have a great figure and look sensational in this outfit. I just bought a pair of barrel pants and I love the loose feel and the taper. Have you tried them yet?
I have not tried them. Iāll have to hunt some down
where can I buy this skirt?
You can shop through the red links under the pictures.
Looking very chic Jennifer and you wear the skirt very well! Do like the neckline of the cardigan and particularly the addition of the textured belt. As to currently owning a skirt in denim the answer is no; as pieces basically consist of just two jackets and a few pairs of jeans with the exception of one medium blue wash denim dress which is midi length/straight cut/buttoned front and sleeveless with a coordinated bolero accented with brushed silver connectors that has short sleeves. I have had it for years and hate to think what I’d pay for it now, but I just find I seldom wear it: regardless that I get compliments on it when I do, so maybe will have to put it at the forefront of my closet? āŗ

P.S.: Have you found your wicker purse yet?
Yes, move it up front so you remember to wear it. It sounds wonderful. No wicker tote yet but Iām still hunting.
Super cute skirt and I love the way you styled it with black & white!
Thanks Pam
I have a blue denim jean skirt that I bought at Nordstroms quite some time ago but I still wear it. A white one would really be great for summer. What a cute outfit.
Love your post today. A white denim skirt is a must for me, as I prefer a skirt than white shorts, as more comfortable. I am very petite, so wear at my knees with wedge sandals in light color. Very nice to see styling with items that the majority of us have in our closets!
I like your sense of style and think that some looks would work here in Zone 4 where winter seems endless. I also like being able to use the ideas to shop, not only my closet, but my favorite thrifts where I’ve helped shoppers put together looks as they enter the job market etc., but have severely limited funds…their choice is food and rent versus clothes.
What a wonderful thing to do helping women!!
A perfect spring outfit.
I’ve avoided skirts the last few years since I get the “golf tan” – my legs are only tanned from above my golf socks to mid calf LOL. Perhaps this will be the summer to rectify that š
On another note – that is the cleanest golf cart I’ve ever seen!
Lol! It was so cute! Try a very thin coat of self tanner on your ankles.
This is the perfect late spring / early summer outfit and you wear it beautifully! You could switch out the tank or tee with colors like ocean blue/pink /orange and I just live pieces that are so versatile!
The white denim skirt is a good idea for summer. It seems very versatile. I donāt own one, but will check this out.
Show those legs! I follow a cheeky blogger from the UK who writes for women over 50. She had an observation about showing arms in hot, humid weather that stayed with me. Her advice? āIf you donāt like the look of my arms, then donāt look.ā Same perspective for our legs. After decades of ādonāt wearā advice, I put on what I enjoy.
Yay!! Weāve earned the right to wear what makes us feel good.
What is not to like, this outfit is summer. I love skirts and dresses for summer. The three denim skirts I have (black, dark wash navy and white) get a lot of wear. They look good with most any tops. Do like the tan sandals, belt and bag, go to for matching most anything for summer. Can be very casual or dressed up a bit with different accessories.. the light weight sweater is never a bad thing to have on hand for summer, plus like the 3/4 sleeves.
A black denim skirt sounds like such a great piece. Iāll have to keep my eye out for one.
Yes I am. I have a jean denim skirt, but for spring/summer, a white denim skirt. They are great for trans seasonal weather and can look very smart as in the case of yours Jennifer. By the way, I watched the Instagram pod you did with the 3 other fashion bloggers and I am sure I heard you say that you were moving away from denim jeans. Did I hear this correctly and if so, may I ask why?
I agree, theyāre great for changing seasons.
If I said I was moving away from denim jeans, I misspoke!š³ I canāt imagine my wardrobe without a great pair of jeans. Itāll soon be too uncomfortably hot to wear them here, so Iāll switch things up but only for a the season.
