Chico’s Dressing Room Try-On: Fall 2025 Styles for Women Over 60

I popped into Chico’s during our trip south last week for a quick fall 2025 dressing room try-on. I know many of you prefer to skip the dressing rooms these days—and honestly, I don’t blame you. My goal with these posts is to give you a closer look at how things actually fit, feel, and flatter, so you can shop from home with a little more confidence (and a lot less guesswork). Everything I tried is linked below, and when you shop through those links, it helps support the work I do here—so thank you.

This dressing room try-on included everything from soft sweaters and new jean styles to a cashmere surprise I didn’t expect from Chico’s. Some pieces went straight onto my wish list, while others reminded me that fit really is everything.

FAUX LEATHER BLAZER size 1 / SQUARE NECK TANK size 2 / PULL-ON SLIM BOOTCUT JEGGINGS size 0.5

This faux leather blazer ended up being one of my favorites from this try-on. It’s buttery soft and cut in a simple, classic shape that makes it easy to dress up or down. The leopard-print lining is a fun surprise, and I cuffed the sleeves so it peeks out—just enough interest without trying too hard. This color is Ivory Wheat, which looks a little cooler in person than it does in the photograph. It also comes in a gorgeous spruce green.

Underneath, I’m wearing the square-neck tank in Dried Mushroom. These tanks come in several colors and are great for layering. I always size up in them because they’re very fitted, and I like mine to skim rather than hug.

The pull-on slim bootcut jeggings are super comfy and flattering. They’ve got plenty of stretch but still keep their shape, so you’re not tugging at bagged-out knees halfway through the day. The bootcut is one of my favorite silhouettes—it balances the hips and works with everything from sneakers to heeled boots. You can read more about why bootcuts are so flattering here.

BUTTON CUFF TURTLENECK size 1 / POCKETED CARDIGAN size 1 / EMME STRAIGHT LEG PANT size 0.5

This button cuff turtleneck was a great basic for fall. I tried it in coastal blue. The rivet buttons at the cuffs add just enough detail to make it feel polished, and the fabric drapes nicely without clinging. It comes in 8 shades. I’m pretty sure I have this in black and in ivory from years past.

I added this pocketed cardigan in black, which is a nice contrast with the blue. It’s long and easy with generous patch pockets. It’s lightweight, so it’ll be great now and is thin enough to wear under your coats later.

The Emme Straight Leg Pant is one of Chico’s new styles, and it’s a great one. The straight leg is more forgiving than some of their slimmer styles and it’s very flattering. It has a clean and modern vibe without being tight. They’re a pull-on style with a smooth waistband and just enough stretch to move comfortably. I’m wearing black and they come in 3 other shades.

NO IRON PEPLUM SHIRT size 1 / GIRLFRIEND SLIM ANKLE JEANS size 0

This no-iron peplum shirt is such a handy piece if you like a little shape at the waist without fussing with tucks or belts. I have a very straight figure, but this gives me the illusion of curves, which is not an easy feat to achieve. I tried it in Spruce, which is nearly sold out, but it also comes in white. The fabric truly lives up to its “no-iron” promise.

Now for the jeans. These Girlfriend Slim Ankle Jeans are about as close to skinny jeans as I want to get at 69. Unfortunately, they didn’t have my proper size in the store, so I had to squeeze into the smaller pair for the try-on. Let’s just say they looked more painted-on than slim. Proof that sometimes the issue isn’t your body…it’s the size tag. In the right fit, they’re flattering, comfortable, and a good option if you’re easing away from skinnies but not ready to jump straight into baggy. These come in 8 colors.

COWL CASHMERE TUNIC size S / SO SLIMMING GIRLFRIEND JEANS size 0.5

This cowl cashmere tunic was the yummiest surprise. I never used to think of Chicos for cashmere, but I will now. The fabric is incredibly soft and feels like a hug—soft, cozy, and luxurious without being heavy. The cowl neckline adds a touch of softness without excessive bulk, and the tunic length makes it easy to pair with both jeans and slim-fitting pants, and dare I say…leggings.

The So Slimming Girlfriend Jeans are made with Chico’s signature slimming panel inside, which smoothes through the front and keeps their shape nicely. The cut is slim through the hips and thighs with a straight leg. Their inseam is 28″, which is too long for me in these slim legs, so I would need a low heel or to turn them under. I do love this soft gray wash.

This is one of those outfits that can easily swing casual or polished. With loafers or sneakers, it’s an easy daytime look. Add ankle boots and some bold earrings, and you’ve got a cozy but pulled-together option for dinner out.

ELLA V-NECK PULLOVER size 1 / GIRLFRIEND STRAIGHT ANKLE JEANS size 0.5 / SWEATER BLAZER size 1

The Ella V-Neck Pullover I tried is in cobalt blue, which is a rich, versatile shade that works beautifully for fall. It also comes in 6 other shades. The knit is soft with a nice drape, and the little button details on the cuffs keep it from being just another plain sweater. I love that v-necklines give you the opportunity to showcase your pretty scarves which are plentiful this fall.

On top, I added this soft Sweater Blazer in passport blue. It also comes in chanti, black, taupe, and spruce. I forsee this being a very popular blazer for Chico’s because it has the polish of a jacket but the comfort of a cardigan. The fit is tailored without being stiff, and I liked the way it sharpens up the jeans and sweater.

The Girlfriend Straight Ankle Jeans are Chico’s new take on a straight leg, and I really like this wash. It’s a clean, washed look that has a vintage feel but no distressing. They’re slim through the hip with a straight leg that hits at the ankle—easy with sneakers, loafers, or boots.

MORE FALL FINDS FROM CHICO’S

I’d love to know, have you tried anything from Chico’s lately? Some of their fall pieces genuinely surprised me (in the good way), and a few had me doing that familiar dressing room dance: do I love it, or do I love the idea of it?

That’s the whole reason I share these try-ons. Not because I think you need more clothes, but because we all want fewer duds hanging in our closet and more things we actually reach for. If I can help you avoid a scratchy sweater or steer you toward a pair of jeans that don’t cut off your circulation, I call that a win.

Let me know what caught your eye—or what you’ve tried recently that either worked like magic or fell completely flat. We’ve all been there.

Hi, Jennifer! I stopped in my local Chico’s to see if they had the peplum blouse in my size (sadly, it was sold out) but I ended up leaving with a gorgeous Travelers long jacket and matching tank top in Spruce. I wasn’t sure if my skin tone and the color would get along but it works! The jacket is elegant, skims the body, and looks wonderful with matching, black or white trousers (I tried it on with all 3). I want to say “Thank you very much!” for introducing me to Chico’s when I first subscribed to your blog 2 years ago. I feel beautiful and confident when I’m wearing their clothes and would probably have never looked for the local store if it wasn’t for you.

  2. I shop at Chico’s, and when looking for jeans, I have two problems. One, is the fit. Even when I size down, I have problems with the jeans stretching out so much. Do you have any suggestions?
My second problem is the denim dye. I have found that the dye on the darker denim have a tendency to rub off or transfer. Is this still a problem? I really like the boot cut jeggings.

    1. Always prewash your dark denim before wearing. I’ve had the same issue

  3. I bought the grey wash girlfriend jeans! I’ve been waiting for Chicos to come out with a grey colored jeans. Thank you for trying them on. My inseam is 28” so they should fit me even though I’m three inches shorter than you are. You are slimmer too as I have to get a size 2P or whatever has a 28” inseam. I have a fluffy waist. That is why I’m in a 2 or 12P. You looked terrific in all of your outfits today!

  4. Echoing others….these try ons are soooo helpful. Seeing an item on and having info about that item….feel, fit, etc…makes online shopping a more successful endeavor. Thank you so much, Jennifer!

the Talbots red sweater vest just arrived today and OMG! Perfect. I love the red…for me, it’s exactly the right shade. If you ever run across a lipstick that shade……🤞…..pls let me know.

    Healing vibes your way…..

  5. I just ordered the sweater blazer in chianti. Last week I purchased the turtleneck pullover in the coastal blue. I think Chico’s has some excellent choices for fall

    1. I agree, this fall they have really outdone themselves

  6. Thank you, thank you!! You make me feel chic just by your remarks in the dressing room diary. You inspire me to be the best I can be even for a trip to the grocery store.

    1. I’m so happy to hear that! Thank you Alice

Looking really sharp in today’s post. I especially love the first look.

  8. Nice try on session. I live in their no-iron blouses which I pair with a scarf or a puffer vest if it’s cold. We had rain all night so Fall is definitely here and I’ll be adding sweaters and turtleneck tops into the mix. As for bottoms mostly jeans either straight or boot cut. I recently lost weight and needed some new jeans (yay me). I needed them fast so I went to a local boutique. They carried a brand new to me Judy Blue. So far they have been a winner though I will need to get the boot cut hemmed. When you get jeans hemmed up what do you do about the typical jean hem?

  9. You look stunning in the leather blazer and bootcut jeans. I am similar proportions and I always get compliments with that proportion combo.

    1. It’s a great one!

  10. I recently bought The Sweater Blazer in Spruce Green and it fits like a dream! However I am not having much luck with Chicos Jeans. They have a tendency to run small and I am at the top of their size charts right now. I have bought a couple of their Ella boat neck sweaters and love them. Thanks for showing Chicos for us today. Hope you are recovering from Ballet Lessons!

  11. Hi Jennifer!
I noticed a comment you had made above that got my attention, re jeggings. “They’ve got plenty of stretch but still keep their shape, so you’re not tugging at bagged-out knees halfway through the day.” This, plus occasionally a sagging crotch as well, has caused me to regret certain purchases I have made in the past, once I got them home and actually started wearing them! This could apply to jeans or leggings or jeggings. Do you have any tips for us as to which materials and percentages of materials (as noted on the garment tag) should be avoided so that this is less likely to happen? Thanks for your help!

    1. I find jeans with 100% cotton tend to hold their shape very well. Ones with lots of lycra can tend to loosen up, so a nice number is about 2%. Also, jeans that include a bit of polyester tend to hold their shape nicely without bagging out.

I find these try ons both helpful and informative, although you are petite and I certainly am not! As you mentioned, I don’t do in-store dressing rooms anymore at 67, I appreciate your doing that for me.

    1. I’m very happy to here they’re helpful

  13. Haven’t been into Chicos for a long time. You highlighted some items that have piqued my interest. By the way, I have meant to tell you how beautiful your knitting is. That is going to be a gorgeous sweater. Only you will know it’s flaws, it looks like complete perfection to me.

    1. Thanks Janette! It’s challenging me for sure.

  14. These outfits all look so great. We have a great Chicos but they don’t carry petites so I’m going to look online. The first blazer you tried on looks so pretty on you. Love that color.

    1. I love it too. My husband keeps encouraging me to order it

  15. Debbie Evans says:

It’s nice to see Chico’s collection is more conservative and less flowery. Their clothes fit me well but I have not loved their busy prints.

    1. I’m not a fan or wearer of prints so I focus on trying on simpler things that I might wear.

  16. Thank you for the try on. I don’t really shop at Chicos but loved the tunic and jeans. My spine is curved and I have long legs so hoping this look will create a nice silhouette. Thanks I would not have thought of this before seeing it on you and will give Chicos a try.
I hate trying on clothes grateful for all your hard work!

  17. Jennifer,
I loved the blazer on you! I had to order it right away. The leopard print lining was what sold me. Thanks so much for your try-ons. They are so helpful in determining how clothing looks and fits. Praying that your foot is doing better and causing you less pain.

    1. Thanks Ginger, I’ve been icing it and today is a better day for it.
