Dressing Room Diaries- Stripes For Spring
Happy Wednesday ladies. It’s officially March so it’s time for stipes and linen. Just kidding, but the good stuff arrives early so I thought I would show you some of the stripes for spring that are showing up in my local Nordstrom.
As always, you can click the red text for more info and to shop the item at no additional cost to you.
If you’re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I am 5’4″ and weigh around 138 lbs with broad shoulders and straight hips. I have a long torso and arms so I often buy one size larger on top. I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not flatter me so you can see what’s in the stores and get some styling ideas. I tell you what sizes I am wearing to help you understand how things run.
These linen pants are a great basic from Nordstrom each year. They have pockets and a drawstring waist making them easy peasy to wear in hot weather. They have a high rise and come in petite and regular sizes XXS-XXL. I’m wearing a regular in small. The Navy option is here.
This cardigan is a light and airy cotton/35% viscose/nylon blend. It comes in 3 colors sizes XS-XXL, plus size here. I am wearing a small in regular. The tank is sized XS-XXL, I’m wearing a small.
I was thrilled to find lots of white jeans on the racks because nothing says warm weather like a great pair of white jeans. These are by Caslon and come in white, black, and 2 blue washes. The rise is high and they have lots of stretch in sizes 00-18. The white is flying out the door so I had to settle on this size 10 which is too large for me. They feel terrific on and look much more expensive than the $49 price tag.
This side-vent cotton blend tunic comes in 4 colors, sizes 00-18. I’m wearing a small so think it runs generously.
This sweater jacket comes in petite and regular sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a small in regular so it runs true to size. The tank comes 3 colors in petite and regular sizes XS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in small and have the bottom folded under about 4″ because it’s pretty long on me.
This organic cotton-blend fitted v-neck cardigan comes in 7 great colors in sizes SSX-XXL. I am wearing a medium which is plenty large for me so it runs generously. I love this length cardigan over a dress because it shows some waist without hiding your shape. The v-neck tee comes in 7 colors sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a medium.
The side slit capris come in 4 colors sizes 00-18. I am wearing an 8. They recommend you size down because they stretch out with wearing.
This split neck tee is a nice weight that’s opaque, which I appreciate. It comes in 3 colors sized XXS-XXL, I am wearing a small. It’s made from an organic cotton blend with spandex. These slim ankle jeans area a pull-on style with a nice straight leg. They have a 29″ inseam which I have turned under 1″. They are thick enough to be opaque.
Here are the same Caslon jeans I showed above, this time in a dark blue wash. This size 8 fits me much better than the 10. The sales lady talked me into a 6, which fits snugly, and came home with me. The website says they run large, but I didn’t find that. I suppose it depends on how tight you like your jeans :).
This cotton/modal striped hoodie comes in 4 colors sized XS-XXL. I could have tried on the navy and white, but this red and white just screamed more fun to me. It’s a fitted shape so I sized up to a medium.
The stretch organic cotton jacket comes in 3 colors in sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a size small so it runs generously. It’s as soft as a sweatshirt and a terrific third layer for spring. The V-neck tee comes in 13 colors and stripes sizes XXS-XXL. It is semi-sheer which is why I prefer it in color, rather than white.
Are you a fan of stripes?
Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.
I do not like anything nautical looking. And stripes read nautical to me. Especially red and navy stripes. I occasionally wear a black and white stripe though. Also, I never like how I look in pictures when wearing stripes. But, they really do look nice on you, Jennifer.
That golden yellow cardigan and the striped tank is me!
Love this post…’cause I love nautical stripes! The hoodie in red gives you a wonderful waist, for someone who says she’s not curvy. I’ll look into a couple of these Nic and Zoe items, however Nordstrom’s Canadian site has not proven useful in the past.
I received a Chico’s Zenergy blue striped tunic recently, after an earlier post, and it’s a great purchase. I am planning my choices for my Lisbon to London small ship cruise (180 passengers) in mid April. Nautical is going to be useful!
Thanks for this, Jennifer.
Your cruise sounds wonderful!
My favorite is the red and white strips. Since my middle is not tiny, I am careful about stripes but love a good breton tee.
I love that navy jacket – so cute! And Nic+Zoe are always sweet for Spring. Thanks for showcasing them🙂
Love stripes! I will wear a striped tunic that I have had for 10 years today! You look great in all the outfits.
A striped tunic sounds fun!! I love striped of all kinds.
So happy for spring. The red stripes look so fun and look really great on you. I’m ready to get my white jeans out.
The stretch organic jacket comes in the most beautiful shade of royal blue. I always buy organic when I can but this jacket’s not for me b/c it’s not Petite. A taller woman might love it.
Love all the stripes and that sweater jacket.
Gave me hope the Spring is really coming. 😊
Everything looks great! I have been a fan of stripes for many years, even when they were not in style because they make me happy. The dark wash, high waist jeans are a winner too. Well done!
They make me happy too
Jennifer, help! I have always stayed away from horizontal stripes because I hear my mother’s voice in my ear “horizontal stripes make you look wider”. But you look adorable in every one of the striped tops (particularly the tunic)! I am almost your build – 2 lbs less, and 2 inches shorter with perhaps a subtle difference in distribution. My figure would be described as hourglass but admittedly I carry a couple more inches in my hips than my bust. What say you? Perhaps my dear mama specifically meant they make “me” look wider.
Look closely and you’ll see they draw your eye sideways. I also say they’re classic, fun, timeless, youthful, fresh and great style. If you’re slightly wider in the hip area, they will be fabulous on you.
Experiment! Mom may be totally wrong 🙂
It’s been known to happen.
Horizontal stripes under a solid cardigan don’t do that Mom thing. (We had the same Mom, apparently. LOL.) The long vertical line of the cardigan breaks up the horizontal of the stripes. The same thing can happen with a long necklace. I use that trick all the time.
Great ideas, Kay
I love a striped top and white jeans for spring. Now if only our weather would cooperate….
That red hoodie with those dark jeans looks fantastic on you!! Shows off your great figure!! Red is very becoming on you!! Thanks for the fashion show!! It’s fun and educational!!
That striped hoodie is so cute on you! I just ordered 2; the blue and the red. Great spring top. Thanks for the size up advice too.
I bought those too 🙂
