Look of the Week: Faux Fur Trend

Faux fur is everywhere this fall and I love it. Some look so similar to real fur it’s hard to tell them apart. I inherited a real Silver Fox stole from my Mom which I seldom wear. Real fur was and is acceptable in many parts of the world but I’m not comfortable wearing it so it just hangs in my closet while I wear my faux versions.

I find faux fur very warm so vests are perfect this time of year. I’ve had this vest for many years and love when the weather cools off enough to bring it out.

I was surprised to see how closely my hair color now matches it. I’ve been getting fewer low lights put in my hair recently because I’m curious to see what my natural hair color looks like.

A quick hunt on the internet turned up some wonderful faux fur, many of it on sale. This jacket looks super cuddly and comes in several colors plus it’s also on sale!

This vest comes in several colors, I’m drawn to this soft pink. The channel stitching and short pile create a lean silhouette.

Oversized Wrap

This oversized fur wrap is stunning and comes in gorgeous colors. I love this pull through style which helps keep it in place.

This slightly smaller wrap fills a neckline nicely and also has a pull through style.

Then we get to faux fur in Leopard which is a personal favorite.

I ordered this one from the Gap last month but it was too small and they were sold out of my size. I have fond memories of a faux fur leopard swing coat I wore all through my thirties and would love to find another one.

Leopard Faux Fur

This reversible coat is part of the Nordstrom Fall sale and marked down until November 12. This cheetah print coat is marked way down at the Nordstrom Rack and has nice patterning. I also love this snow leopard coat which has classic lines and is a gorgeous pattern.

Do you wear faux fur?

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Re socks: Hue socks sold at Macy’s are my favorite. They are very comfortable around the ankles (unlike many which are very constricting). In addition, they come in a wide variety of colors/stripes etc.

I do have a question. Are there any pantyhose brands which are not control top?

    Thanks!

    1. I’m pretty sure Nordstrom’s own brand and DKNY make panty hose in both regular and control top.

  2. Jennifer, I couldn’t find your email, so I’ll ask my question here.
The other day you spoke of the need to add socks. Now that the season is changing, could you address the issue of socks? How to wear with what? I’m well into wearing socks where I live, so no more crops or ankle pants. I do not have any short boots, but may need to get some. Could you give pointers for both boots and shoes with socks?
Love your blog and your honesty!!!

    1. My socks come from Target. I see no need to spend a lot of money on socks few people will see. I usually match my socks to my pants which helps my legs look longer. With knee boots, I wear knee socks and tuck my pants into them. For ballet flats I either wear peds or ankle socks. I like fishnet socks with ballet flats too but they add no warmth.

    2. I have problems with this, too. In my cold climate we are well into sock weather and I’m surprised at how difficult it is to find full-length pants. Most are cropped or hit at the ankle so socks will show. This looks un-fashionable but I refuse to have cold feet. Also, I work in a conservative office, and boots, which are the solution, are borderline too casual, at least for client meetings.

      1. Matching your socks to your pants helps elongate your legs and also hlkeeps them less visible.

You look so lovely in your vest and it’s a perfect match for your hair.I could do with one of these vests today as the spring weather here has turned chilly and it’s not a good day for our famous Melbourne Cup.Check out the fashions for the Melbourne Cup when you get a chance. It’s a great day and this Thursday is Oaks Day or Ladies’ Day at the races in Melbourne.
    Cheers.

I’m loving faux fur this year. I’m always drawn to it when it compliments the wearers haircolor. Looks really nice. Found a wonderful reddish faux fur that going to be a vest, and it also goes with my hair color – I hope it looks as good as yours.

    1. Great point Kathleen about the hair color. Are you seeing yours?

  5. Your hair and the silver suede vest look absolutely beautiful together. Definitely colors for you!

  6. Your hair looks exceptionally beautiful today! Did you use something different? Thank you for your blog.

    1. Same as usual but I may have been more heavy handed with my Doo-Over plus I’m due a haircut!

  7. Carolyn Rohrer Shaw says:

Love the fake fur, too. Your hair is looking so full. Looks like the Rogaine works. Do you apply it all over? I am at the 6.5 month mark on the grow out from golden blonde to my natural color.. I am silver, grey and have a few really dark streaks. The transition is getting easier now.

    1. I apply in the front where it’s thinnest and also at the bottom back where my hair stylist sees thinning. I use the suggested amount but I spread it around. Lucky you! I’m hoping mine will look nice!

  8. This vest looks wonderful on you and is probably perfect for California weather. I try them on but they just don’t suit me. I do love the leopard coats – always stylish.
Your natural hair colour looks lovely. You may just be at the stage were you can go au natural.
I bought a pair of palazzo pants a few days ago for the upcoming Christmas season but I’m not sure of the best way to finish the outfit. If I wear to dinner should I wear a white shirt? Should the top be closely fitted to balance the wide leg? I would appreciate any help you can give. A future post perhaps?

    1. I would choose a slim fitting top that is no longer than the top of your hip. A blouse would be gorgeous if you feel comfortable tucking it in. I’m excited to see how this hair turns out:)

  9. Janet angeline says:

I love the way your hair color is turning out. So you just get low lights no base color. Are the low lights brown and blond.

    1. Thank you. So far so good. The dark parts are my ash blonde. I’ve never had a base color expect the short time I went platinum in my 40’s.

  10. Rabbits are not native to Australia and have wreaked havoc with the wild life, so I don’t feel bad if I purchase something which has a rabbit fur collar. I wouldn’t wear any other type of fur though.

    1. I didn’t know they about rabbits! The population must be out of control.

      1. Rabbits were brought to Australia when colonized by the British. In the 1950s, the Australian Govt tried to cull the rabbits using myxamotosis with little success, but they (the rabbits) are still a problem and therefore ‘fair game’ for fur lovers.
