Look of the week: Airport Chic

My flight to Iceland was a long one. I wanted to look nice at the airport plus feel comfortable while traveling. I usually travel wearing my heaviest footwear, but not this time. My huge ugly sneakers are not something I want to wear through the airport. They’re clunky and look sloppy  .

Instead I chose my vintage Pikolino’s which feel like slippers and fold very flat after I get off the plane. They’re made of a sweater knit that stretches to accommodate swelling feet.

I choose my black stretch crepe pants from Eileen Fisher, my no-iron white shirt from Chico’s and a scarf to tie over my hair after 11 hours smashed against a headrest.

Rather than my old standby Hartmann suitcase, I purchased a foldable canvas duffel bag on wheels. A Target special that folds flat for stowing in the camper. This is a very small camper and space cramped!

I also brought my old Hartmann carry on as my purse and wore a waist pack for my wallet and important documents.

The best laid plans are already changing and we had no hotel upon arrival so needed to kill 8 hours while they raced to get our camper ready.

They were having a marathon through the streets of Reykjavik  we were more than happy to just watch, while loading up on caffeine. Sadly there was not enough tea in town to keep me awake.

Keeping it real here ladies…here I am, passed out in rental office, with my contacts and dignity gone. My daughter is the small blip under the gray hat.

You look great for the trip and even when exhausted. If I get to travel over many time zones, I’m going to keep the time change in mind now.

That duffle bag is exactly what my DIL is looking for. Do you remember if it’s 20 or 22″? In Canada, it’s 20″.

Oh, hopefully that is your only trip blip and it will smooth camping from now on. BTW, even while snoozing you look great!
Have a wonderful time, Suz from Vancouver

Seeing your white shirt reminded me of the time I travelled wearing white. A disaster! I had little ones and was dirtied in no time, arriving a mess. Even though the little ones are grown and on their own the memory haunts me. Never again! Lol

Comfy, yet stylish airport/airplane wear! On our recent trip to Europe I was appalled at some of the outfits I saw in airports. Love the keeping it real! Hope you’ve adjusted to the time change (mostly) by now.

Love keeping it real, my friend. There is no room for pretense at a time like that. I am going to have to get one of the no-wrinkle shirts for our upcoming little trip later this week. Hope your trip is all you want and need it to be.

Thank you for making people aware that we do NOT have to look like slobs when we travel. The hordes roaming airports these days look like the unwashed masses arriving at Ellis Island! I always dress nicely to travel and discovered that usually equates to better service.

Oh dear – I forgot you were flying from California (From Toronto it was only about a 4 1/2 hour flight. In your case I would definitely have advised getting a hotel room at least for the first night – no wonder you fell asleep – you will really need your rest on Icelandic roads! Hope it’s all sorted now.
