Monday Musings- New Sneaks and A Few Outfits

Happy Monday, ladies. Our weather cleared up briefly over the weekend, but not long enough to warm up. It’s colder than I remember for March and raining most days, but I won’t whine too much because I know it’s balmy compared to where many of you live. I actually like the change of seasons and variety in weather. It just means I need to keep more variety in my wardrobe before I swap things out.

I only remembered to snap two outfits last week.

CARDIGAN SIMILAR / TURTLENECK size S / BOOTCUT JEANS size 6 / CHUCK TAYLOR HIGH-TOP PLATFORM SNEAKERS / DEAN DAVIDSON EARRINGS c/o

This was my outfit for a rainy, cruddy day when I had a bunch of errands to run. I wore this long cashmere cardigan over a plain turtleneck sweater, bootcut jeans, and high-top platform sneakers. I bought this cozy cardigan from Haven last winter and have reached for it more times than I can count. It was my first Haven purchase, but it will not be my last. I bought these sneakers on a whim. I’d tried on the regular Chuck Taylors but they felt pretty flat. Then I tried on these platforms which have lots of bounce and are very comfy. I also like the way the high-top slips up under a bootcut leg.

COTTON PULLOVER in indigo size S / EVERYDAY STRETCH PANTS size S / SIMILAR UGG SLIPPERS

I had no plans to go out this day, so I wore my Talbots comfy cotton pullover with my T by Talbots stretch pants and Ugg slippers. My lipstick had long worn off by this point, but here you go…what I wore to work from home all day.

BIRKENSTOCK ESSENTIALS ARIZONA WATERPROOF SLIDE

Birkenstocks have always been popular, but they’ve become quite the rage for spring. All rubber and rubber-like versions are popping up everywhere. Many stores are also carrying look-alike versions. I spotted these and decided to give them a try. They’re surprisingly comfy to wear around the house in lieu of slippers and give my arches a lot of support.

Here’s the write up- “An iconic cushioned sandal is revised in a rubber-like texture with sleek adjustable straps designed to exercise foot and leg muscles while providing comfort.” They come in lots of fun colors and are so comfy I’m considering a purple pair to take on my trip to Mexico in a few weeks.

Outfit of the week

So many readers love their Sketchers, so I thought I would incorporate some into a look of the week.

ARCH FIT SKETCHERS / COTTON SWEATER / ENDLESS PANTS / STRETCH COTTON JACKET / RETRO WAYFARER POLARIZED SUNGLASSES / KNOT STUD EARRINGS / SHOULDER BAG / STAINLESS WATCH

These straight-leg pants are made in a refined stretchy microfiber that feels like workout wear but looks like street clothes. They come in four colors in regular, petite and tall, sizes 0-26. I paired it with a cotton pullover that comes in two colors, sizes XXS-3X. The stretch utility jacket comes in three colors sizes XXS-XL. Plus sized jacket here in tan. The sketchers have a comfy knit top and removable cushioned Arch Fit insole. I added a leather shoulder bag, and some silver knot earrings and silver tone watch. This would be a great outfit for running around town that feels comfy and looks put together.

Are you a fan of slip on sneakers?

Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

  1. I love slip on sneakers, ( especially the woven ones you sometimes wear , Jennifer ) but I very much need to find ones that have a little bit of a wedge, because of an ankle issue I have. I have a couple of old pairs, but haven’t come across any for a few years. They give the same weight to an outfit that booties do in colder months. If anyone knows of any, I’d love to know. I’m sure some petite ladies wouldn’t mind having a little extra height as well.

  2. Skechers have been a favorite since 2008. I am embarrassed to admit how many pairs are in the shoe rack. I’ve read, and believe from experience, that we lose the padding on the bottom of our feet as we age (which begs the question “why couldn’t it have been off the hips!). Skechers have such great cushioning, it pretty much replaces what age took away, especially the Max Cushioning sneaks. Really enjoy your blog. Thanks for all the work you put in.

    1. So true!! Off the hips and tummy would be a better place to lose it.

      1. I view the extra padding on my hips as a protection from a future hip fracture! ~ Chris

      2. Way to go. I love your attitude.

  3. Love Haven. Discovered it this winter. Clothes are so soft and comfy. Love the black outfit you are wearing. You look great!

    1. I’m really glad I tried Haven. Such great quality too.

  4. Have purchased four pairs of Sketchers in the last two months! I love them and that is saying something as I have bad arthritis in my feet as well as peripheral neuropathy. My pain is much less in my Sketchers! I would wear you outfits this Monday!, this is the way I live! You look terrific in navy blue!

  5. Love the OOTW – pretty much all in my closet. I am buying a lot of sneakers this year. I just bought Saucony walkers and they were late by a day. The email said, “due to issues, the sneakers are running late.” I laughed out loud!

  6. Love the Birkenstock Arizona style! I have a turquoise pair about 3-4 yrs old, last year invested in a subtly metallic dark gray pair. Itā€™s fun to wear them with socks in the run up to spring and then the socks come off. They seem to last well and can be easily scrubbed when they need it.
Hope you enjoy your trip to Mexico!

    1. I’m wearing mine with socks today, as a matter of fact. It’s so chilly in the house.

  7. It’s as not balmy where I am today, with -18Ā° C. overnight.

I have the regular Arizona Birkenstocks, which come in a narrow fit (more like B-width), plus a pair of faux Arizonas for around the house.

I’ve never been able to wear Chucks because of the width and lack of arch support. I did, however find my dream pair of pastel Doc Martens in the 1460 style. They were made in Vietnam, which seems to mean a fit narrow enough for my feet.

Thanks for showing footwear classics with an edge. Never say never.

    1. I am still learning to never say never šŸ™‚ Pastel Doc Martens sound so fun!

  8. Love Indigo (Navy blue) any time anywhere. It’s my color! And framed with white or pink I’m really happy!

  9. There is a 20% off coupon for the sneakers in the Sketchers website.

Itā€™s afternoon here on the east coast so, Good afternoon Jennifer, I adore your outfits today and did not know Birkenstocks are more modern and colorful. Let me know how they are for walking during your trip to Mexico.
    Have a great day.šŸ˜€

  11. Love your outfits! Also Sketchers! I have five pairs of various types and colors. So comfortable.

  12. Good outfits! Also I love my Sketchers. Have six of all types.

  13. Love your outfit..I have the jacket in my Nordstrom online bag. I’ve embraced the long cardigan look, but for my height, all the cardigans I’ve purchased have gone to the tailor for shortening. I’ll have to check out the Haven, it would be worth the tailoring cost…

Went shopping this weekend and ended up with a pair of dark blue sketchers. .. my first ones. Did not think I would like them, but the comfort is incredible! They look good with my jeans. Yep, they are my new keepers for walking, etc.

    1. I wore a pair out many years ago; I guess it’s time to replace them.

  15. What state are you writing your blog from?

    1. I am in Northern CA

  17. I really like the outfit of the week.bi didn’t think I would ever wear Sketchers but I found a pair of beige slip-ons last summer and I have worn them more then I thought I would. Love Ugg slippers.

  18. Love it all! Jennifer you continue to amaze!! The Olive & Blue OOTW is top notch. Just a suggestion, how about a trip to Talbot’s? They had some killer spring choices. I’d think you’d look terrific in them (me too for that matter) as have been a Talbot’s girl for 43 years.

    1. Funny you should ask, Iā€™m heading there this week!

  19. Ruth Janet says:

SKETCHERS!! Yes please! They are my go to shoes all summer long and have them in every colour I can get my hands on! Never any need to wear socks as I just slip them on and go. So comfortable!

  20. Love the Haven cardigan and i just purchased two pairs of the rubber Birkenstocks in red and navy. The navy are to replace a pair I have worn non stop including through winter in NC this year. So comfy. I have been looking for a slip on sneaker and usually buy Taos but theirs does not come in a 10.5 unfortunately. An on the fence re the knit top slip on.

    1. Iā€™m wearing mine non stop too! I guess I can justify the purple color. Itā€™s so pretty šŸ’™

    2. I am a long time Talbots lady! They always seem to have up to date fashionable style and fit for us more mature women! I have a hard time with dresses, but looks like their new spring catalog has lots of options. Hope you try on a few to show us!

      1. I hope they have them in the store to try on. Looking forward to seeing what they have
