Dressing Room Diaries – New for Fall

We are home and the temperatures hit 104 yesterday, so what did I do? I went to the mall to try on sweaters, long pants, and jackets for you to see:) Today I’ve got some new casual outfits for fall from Nordstrom.

OVER 50 BLOGGER SELFIE IN TEAL SWEATER

If youā€™re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary try-on session is when I go into a store and try on the new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25 and get some styling ideas. For reference, I am 5ā€™4ā€³ and weigh around 136 pounds. I have an inverted triangle shape with broad shoulders and straight hips with very few curves. I have a long torso and arms so often buy one size larger on top than the bottom.

As always, you can click the red highlighted text for more details and to shop the item.

WEARING –Ā  CREPE BLOUSE in “Gable Sprigs” –Ā  Ā FAUX SUEDE STRETCH MOTO JACKETĀ  –Ā  STRAIGHT LEG STRETCH JEANS

This high-low crepe blouse comes in 20 lively colors and patterns, which is a testament to how popular it is. It has 3/4 sleeves and a split, band neckline and is available in sizes XXS-XL. It runs large so if you’re between sizes, order one size down.

This faux suede moto jacket comes in 4 colors sizes 00-18. I am wearing the Buff in a medium so they run true to size and the stretch makes them comfy. These are the NYDJ Marilyn straight jeans in the martini olive color. I love how flattering these jeans are so it’s fun to find them in colors for fall. There are 10 other colors here. They also come in a gorgeous coffee bean color that I have my eye on. Brown hasn’t been overly popular lately so it’s nice to see it arriving in stores. I have the bottoms folded under about 3″.

WEARINGĀ  –Ā  SMOCKED CUFF RUMPLED SATIN BLOUSEĀ  –Ā  CATHERINE BOYFRIEND JEANS ON LEFTĀ  –Ā  SKINNY JEANS STRETCH JEANS ON RIGHT

Just when I said I was done with skinny jeans for a while, I find these really skinny jeans that are great! They’re as slim as leggings so would easily fit in knee boots. They’re a pull-on style, so no zip or buttons to add bulk in front. I’m wearing a medium which is supposed to fit (6-10) but I think if you’re a 10, you might dislocate something trying to pull these on so I would go up a size in these, unlike all other NYDJ.

I folded the cuffs on these boyfriend’s jeans down but they’re still rather short on me. They have a slouchy fit in sizes 00-18 and fit true to size. This blouse is another winner from Vince Camuto. Full sleeves are popular this year and smocking is still on-trend, this blouse combines them in a wearer-friendly option. It comes in 3 saturated colors in sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing an XS which is a bit snug across the chest so it runs true to size.

ORANGE TOP FAUX LEATHER SKIRT fall outfit
WEARING – PIN TUCK TIE WAIST BLOUSEĀ  –Ā  LEATHER PENCIL SKIRT

Faux leather abounds this fall, but this pencil skirt is real leather so it will mold to your shape and get more comfortable with wear. It has a front slit for ease of movement, back zip for a sleek look. It comes in sizes 00-14, I am wearing a 6 which is pretty snug around my waist but I know it will stretch so it runs true to size. I paired it with this feminine pintuck blouse that ties at the waist and has full sleeves with elastic at cuffs. You could also slide the elastic up your arms for a shorter option. It comes in sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a medium that is too loose so it runs true to size.

MORE FLORAL BLOUSES

WEARINGĀ  –Ā  FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGSĀ  –Ā  GAUZE FLUTTER SLEEVE BLOUSE ON LEFTĀ  –Ā  CASHMERE SWEATER ON RIGHT

Here are two looks with these faux leather leggings. They have a high rise and are available in sizes XXS-XXL. I have folded the bottom under 2″ which I would just do at home. No need to hem them because the fold stays under. On the left is a chiffon, flutter sleeve blouse in very pretty autumn colors. It seems to be selling out at lightning speed. Here’s the same print in a long-sleeved top, and smocked waist here.

On the right, I’m wearing a very affordable, Nordstrom brand cashmere pullover that comes in 6 colors, XXS-XX. I am wearing a medium in teal titanic heather.

WEARING –Ā  DIP DYED PLAID SHIRTĀ  –Ā  STRAIGHT LEG JEANS in Rinse wash

Dip dye is still a thing this fall and I love it. This plaid flannel shirt is super soft and cozy for when it cools off (thank goodness for store air conditioning). This dip goes from pink to orange which I am seeing combined more often lately. I love Rails flannel which comes in tons of colors every year.

I’m wearing it with these NYDJ Marilyn Straight jeans in the super dark Rinse wash. They come in sizes 00P- 18 regular. This style does stretch out, so go down one size.

WEARINGĀ  –Ā  DAYTONA SWEATSHIRTĀ  –Ā  STRAIGHT JEANS

I couldn’t resist this cheery sweatshirt in a soft watercolor floral. I’ve never been drawn to florals but there are some really pretty ones this fall. This one has raglan sleeves, is sized XS-XL, and is selling out fast. I think many women are still in comfort mode going forward into fall.

Has it begun to cool off where you live?

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

I appreciate and have more expensive classic clothing for dressy occasions, but I buy my seasonal updates like plaid shirts or floral sweatshirts at Old Navy, Gap or J. Crew(on sale) so I can wear updated styles and not worry if I go to the barn, play with the dogs, or do science projects with the grandkids. Just makes sense! I’m usually surprised at the quality, fit and durability of these items, and I don’t feel guilty if I replace them with new ones next season. I also know my size in my favorite brands, like NYDJ and look for pieces on eBay, Poshmark and Thredup at a fraction of the retail price. (Look for NWT – new with or without tag – items.) Those sources are also a way to find a fabulous Italian leather belt, an authenticated designer handbag, designer clothing or just to try a new style without a big investment.

  2. Wow. What a great try-on post. Love the moto outfit and cashmere sweater. I bought a (similar) brown jacket at Nordys last year and paid 25% of the original price with a sale. I monitored the price and grabbed it as it went down and had my size. It’s a gamble but it worked for me. I love a bargain. If something is too expensive I always check other makers and usually find almost the same item in my price range.
The comfy floral pullover is perfect and the bouses are all flattering. Good colors on you. And the NYDJ is a good pair to transition from skinny styles. Will try them.

    Thanks

    1. I stalk the sales too for investment pieces.

  3. Great outfits! I really like the blue satin blouse, but unfortunately it is not available on the Nordstrom Canada site. In fact, there are only 27 Vince Camuto items, and most of them are shoes.
As for the weather here in Southern Ontario, it is starting to feel a bit fall-like and the leaves are starting to change on some trees. I started my closet turnover on the weekend – putting away some summer items and adding in a few Fall pieces. And the nights are downright chilly, which I love.
Hope your weather cools down soon.

    1. Your weather sounds dreamy to me:) I am so ready for fall

  4. Like seeing everything you’ve chosen. Such a difference between a mannequin or items folded or hanging. One thing I’d love to have added to your reviews is the measurement at the width of the hem/leg opening. Manufacturers don’t do. Some pants I can eliminate just by knowing how wide they are. Also would love to see the backside of you (when with a shopping buddy).
It’s 104 plus here with humidity and warm in Naples, FL just about all year round. I wish I were back in the SF Bay Area this time of year. I can always dream about Fall clothes!
Thank you for your fashion shows. They’re great.

    1. So noted, I will try to get the rear shots. I wish I was back in the Bay Area too but they are sweltering this week too:)

  5. You look great in every outfit, love the faux leather leggings. Andā€¦.you look well rested from your vacation. Itā€™s still HOT and HUMID here in Houston, TX.

  6. beautiful outfits in this blog. Loved the green sweater you were modeling for the intro. Also liked the Marilyn jeans. it is still very warm here in Florida, no fall clothes yet with this heat.

    1. Itā€™s too warm for me here too

  7. I agree about the prices. $168 for a flannel shirt and $159 for a sweatshirt are too much. Just looking at a couple other websites with similar items, you can find them for about half the cost.

    1. Theyā€™re also available at three times the price so we all have to shop within our budget.
Luckily there are options at price points to please every woman.

  8. I mostly window shop the blogs these days because bloggers have gone slow fashion which translates to unaffordable for a lot of us but you still show a variety of prices. I am forever inspired however by the way you style things. I wonder how I could wear those those graduated color shirts like your pink flannel. Thatā€™s perfect.

    1. JJill has a dye dip blouse on sale that Iā€™ve been eyeing all summer. Theyā€™re just such an interesting look

  9. I am not a fan of florals either but putting the moto jacket over it adds the touch it needs. What is moto anyway? I bought one from Chico’s you wore in D R D many months ago and love it.

    1. Itā€™s an abbreviation for motorcycle jacket. I canā€™t wear black leather ones so I always look for softer options that wouldnā€™t go anywhere near a real motorcycle. šŸ™‚

Beautiful clothes thank you Jennifer. I loved the satin blouse, that blue wowā€¦ā€¦and the blue cashmere is stunning. So exciting ! And the sweatshirt looks fabulous also, so many lovely things šŸ™‚

  11. Love your DRDā€™s today.
Lots of great stuff for the fall.
All outfits look awesome on you.

I just love that beautiful light green cashmere sweater youā€™re wearing to introduce this blog! I give you a kit if credit to pull yourself into the mall when itā€™s 104 degrees outside. The jeans are really great as are tge assorted pants you tried on. Iā€™m not such a fan of crepe blouses, nor of fluttery sleeves but Iā€™d certainly look at the sweatshirt in the final frame!

    1. The AC almost wasnā€™t strong enough;)

  13. Beautiful outfits, Jennifer, and I really love the cheerful colors and prints youā€™ve shown! I love seeing a variety of price points as I like to mix higher- and lower-end items in my wardrobe. I appreciate looking at all types of clothes for inspiration and styling ideas, too!

  14. Thanks for the inspiration, Jennifer ! At least you were in air-conditioning in the store. Now some of us will either wait for the next sale, or shop online for something similar, but you showed us some good ideas for the fall. Iā€™m just waiting for it to cool down.

  15. Very pretty try-on session! I love the crepe blouses that Nordstrom carries. I have several from different seasons that always make me feel a bit elevated in my style when I wear them.
I love the color of the cashmere sweater. Unfortunately (or fortunately for my budget), I can’t wear cashmere.
The Daytona sweatshirt is different and so beautiful. I’m always so amazed how clothing designers come up with so many different things constantly.
    It’s wonderful!

    1. The pattern was so soft snd etherial on the sweatshirtā€¦it felt like an interesting contrast.

  16. Loved all your outfits. I especially like the sweaters and flannel shirt! I’ve really been looking for a flowered blouse that fits well, might just have to go to Nordstrom.

    1. They have quite a few but if your store doesnā€™t have a lot, check online

  17. You looked great in every outfit you posted. Trying to slow down on clothing purchases but the cashmere sweater has my name on it. This sweater appears to be well worth the affordable price. Looking forward to fall weather and clothes.

  18. nice clothes ,but too expensive. I really hardly ever shop Nordstrom. You look good in the outfits.
Stay cool, we are running high 90’s here in the Dallas area. Still wearing summer things.

You look great in the moto jacket outfit — those colors are wonderful on you and it’s such a fun look. I also like the cashmere sweater — another great color for you.

I have to say that I was a bit disappointed in some of the prices. The plaid shirt and Daytona sweatshirt seemed a bit steep to me. Even some of the other items were not in my budget. Lovely items, though.

    1. I do try to show lots of price points but to be honest, I didnā€™t look at the price tag when I took them into the dressing room.
