Casual Summer Clothing Finds: Extended and Plus Sizes
Today, we’re chatting about summer clothing finds that come in extended and plus sizes. I know you’re probably wondering what I could possibly have to write about extended and plus-sized clothing. While I don’t personally wear extended or plus sizes, I know many AWSL readers do, and I recognize that the fashion industry has historically neglected the needs of this demographic. It shouldn’t be challenging to find stylish and well-fitting options, no matter what size you wear, so I set out to find some options.
I’ve gone on the hunt for companies with a commitment to inclusivity, and I’ve compiled a list of brands and retailers that cater to women of all sizes. Today, I’m sharing some casual summer clothing finds that are available in extended and plus sizes. I hope these pieces empower you to embrace your personal style with confidence and sophistication.

Thanks for reading, and be sure to wear what makes you feel confident.

Banana Republic, Gap and Old Navy also carry larger sizes.
Not a store, but another blogger I follow — Alison Gary at Wardrobe Oxygen. Alison has made inclusive sizing her online niche for years, and I turn to her when I want real world inspiration and an incredibly broad range of stores and offerings. Highly recommended for readers looking for in-depth, honest reviews of inclusive fashion, along with photos of Alison actually wearing the clothing. She’s a Chico’s ambassador, as well as having an ongoing relationship with Universal Standard, Talbots, and other inclusive brands. I hope your readers might like Alison!
Alison is great!
I forgot to mention that H&M online offers plus size clothing for Canadian women. I have a membership, for free shipping over a certain amount and in-store returns. I don’t like paying for import duties and expensive returns for sizes that are not sold in store. If you are an XXL or below, check out the Premium Selection on the regular size page. Better-quality linen shirts caught my eye.
Reitmans is another great Canadian store, their sizes are XXS-3X.
Agreed!
Another Canadian store with an extensive plus size selection is Winners. I don’t know if all their stores have this section, but the store at my local mall does, and their selection is very stylish. When I pass by, I’ve often wish they had the same styles in my size.
I swear by Chicos. Their tops and jackets fit me really well. And Dillards as well. have not tried some of the others on your list
You really listen to your subscribers, Jennifer. I don’t wear Plus size but my sister does. I know she is limited to a small amount of stores that she can shop. It is surprising that more don’t offer plus sizes since the North American population has gotten bigger.
I agree!
This was a really helpful post as to where to find plus sized clothes. I didn’t realize that was such a problem. I’m always having the same problem trying to find petite clothing!
Petite and tall is also a struggle. Brands like to cater to “average”
I shop for my sis-in-law at Dillards in their Women’s Department. The sizing is as you describe. I don’t know if they have stores nationwide; but, they have a good on line selection shopping. They have great selection, style, sizing. Their sales are good as well. They stock everything from pjs to formal wear.
There aren’t any Dillard out my way. I think online shopping opens so many more options for women, especially harder to find sizes.
I would add Talbots. They even have Plus Petites in some of their tailored items.
Yes! How could I forget? I’ll add them now.
Universal Standard is the most sizing inclusive brand. The quality of their clothing is excellent, and their styles are sophisticated.
Thank you. I’ve heard of them but need to learn more about them.
I agree with Zanzi! Universal Standard should definitely be on the list!
For those who need Long, try mid-rise Long jeans at Old Navy. I’d normally never wear mid-rise but in Long, the rise sits perfectly at my waist. And they have them in the store to try on.
I’m on the border between Long and Regular in pants. The length is good but often the waist is too high.
The biggest problem is that stores rarely carry Long in the store. That means you have to order a bunch to try them on and return what you don’t want. For me, that’s quite a pain. I am about to bite the bullet and order Jjill’s Longs for the first time. Since almost everything is ankle length these days and I don’t think it looks good, I want a better selection.
Great point about length. Thanks Marian.
Just sent Barnes and Noble yesterday and bought The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and it is fabulous. Haven’t been able to put it down. Thanks for the referral.
Thank you for this post! I always enjoy your blog and am a plus size, so appreciated this one particularly. If I may add a few stores for the Canadian audience: The Bay, Laura Plus, Talbots, Toni Plus, and Penningtons. Of course, we can shop American stores online but shipping, duties and any returns become costly. I notice so much stock in the “end of season” sales in regular sizes but not plus. Our selection is much smaller and that is a shame. As many of our population are plus size, retailers need to step up and serve this demographic. We have the desire and means to dress well, just find it difficult to do so. Thank you for including us today.
Thank you for including these, Irene. I agree. More brands need to step up their game.
I think this is part of the reason Nordstrom is no longer with us in Canada. What plus sizes?
Stores like Talbot’s do not carry many plus sizes in certain markets. A clerk told me one of my size was available in my city in a dress I liked, but it had already sold: one, in a city of 1+M people. My size in that item was XXL, or 16.
Old Navy online continues to be my go-to for casual clothes. With judicious use of search terms like “cotton” and “linen”, plus use of the “tall” sizes for torso length and sleeves (but not inseam; 30″ is mine), I can find what I need. Plus size is about proportion. Think broader shoulders that take up more sleeve length and more length in the torso to cover tummies. Also, for those of us at the border of XL and plus sizes, further options exist in other Canadian brands, plus stores like Winners and Marshalls. Joe Fresh, although fast fashion, has options up to size 3X in casual clothing.
Thank you, Jennifer.
I think the best size selections will always be online.
