5 Ways to Wear White Jeans In Winter

Do you live by the adage that you’re not supposed to wear white until after Memorial Day or after Labor Day? How about white jeans? I find that rule antiquated and believe that white jeans can be just as fabulous in the winter as they are in summer, depending on how you style them. Here are a few ways to wear white jeans in winter.

1-Choose The Right Fabric

Denim comes in varying weights, so in the winter, opt for thicker denim or twill fabrics which offer more warmth. Avoid summery, thin styles and chino type fabrics. These AG Farah Crop Bootcut white jeans are a bright white, opaque denim that feels substantial on. Heavier denim without stretch is often warmer than ones that include spandex.

2-Embrace Neutral Layers

Pair your white jeans with shades of beige, tan, and taupe for a tonal look. Here I sandwiched my white jeans between a taupe faux suede moto jacket and taupe suede booties. The low contrast keeps the white from jumping out at you. I added a stone colored tote bag and wool scarf that keeps things toasty and adds a bit of pattern.

3-What Footwear To Wear

What are the best shoes or footwear to wear with white jeans in the winter? Choose ankle booties, knee-high boots, or loafers in neutral tones to complement your white jeans. Waterproof options ensure practicality without sacrificing polish, especially in snowy or wet conditions.

Here I’ve paired my white jeans with a chocolate colored fleece top and chocolate brown booties. I topped it with a beige trench coat and neutral tote bag. This is a higher contrast than taupe and white, but still soft.

The straight leg of these white jeans is long enough to cover the top of the bootie so my socks don’t show. Loafers work with white jeans in milder climates, but when it’s cold, bare ankles are no fun.

4-Accessorize Thoughtfully

Oversized scarves, structured handbags, and statement jewelry can tie your outfit together. Here, I styled off-white wide leg jean for a higher contrast level with a structured black blazer and black booties. I added bold silver earrings, a black bag and a black & white leopard print scarf.

This winter outfit with white jeans is perfect for those who love a touch of drama. The ivory white is also a nice alternative to stark white.

5-Play With Texture

Mix chunky knits, suede footwear, and coats with your white jeans for a cozy yet chic outfit. Leather accents or textured accessories elevate the look, making it stylish and modern. Here I’ve combined a cashmere sweater, suede sneakers, and faux suede and shearling vest with my white jeans.

The darker the denim the more formal the jeans…however white is a different unicorn altogether. Styled intentionally, it can have an elegant vibe that works year round. Focus on cozy layers, thoughtful textures, and accessories to create looks that are chic, comfortable, and weather-appropriate.

Do you wear white jeans year round or reserve them for warm weather?

  1. I think you look fabulous in your winter white jeans. I would wear it on sunny days. It is too wet most days in the NW. Wondering if you made your wool scarf. Best of luck with your skin biopsy.

    1. I did not make this one. Thanks Sylvia

  2. Love this! Please add me to your email list!

    1. There is a sign up right on the top of my blog. I’m not allowed to sign you up myself

  3. Positive thoughts on your biopsy Jennifer! Love your outfits but will have to think on wearing white pants in the cold weather. Thank you for all your suggestions.

  4. Everything looked nice but I loved the neutral outfit with the vest. So pretty.

Best wishes on your biopsy. Prayers said.

  5. Chris Richardson says:

Prayers on your biopsy. I noted you lost weight recently and wanted to know what you did to lose the weight. You are looking very slim, and trim.

    1. Thanks Chris. I started walking more, going to Pilates, wine only on special occasions, and intermittant fasting. I was having a lot of hip pian and really had to lighten the load on my joints.

  6. I’m guessing we can blame that old adage for our putting away our white jeans in the winter. Red and white for Valentines Day would be a cheerful combo. In the north country there is probably a practical reason for avoiding white pants in the winter because of the snow and sludge—brushing up against dirty cars is always a hazard to our look. I think that is one advantage of puffer coats—other than their lightweight warmth—you can brush that dirt right off.

  7. I usually reserve white jeans for warmer weather but I really like the white with chocolate and neutral shades. Another great idea!

    Jennifer,
Prayers coming your way for your biopsy…
Thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us.

  9. I wore my white jeans so much in the fall and spring that I invested in ivory cords for winter. I have worn them so many times that my husband commented on the wearing of my light pants. I combine them with shirts that have ivory stripes.

    1. How nice that he notices! Many husbands do not.

  10. Never considered white jeans “off season”. Will definitely try!

  11. In winter I switch to ivory jeans in fine wale corduroy. Mine are from Talbots, in their petite sizing.

    1. I have those too. They’re a lovely option.

  12. Mary Lou Holt says:

In your opening statement today, I think you meant to refer to the adage of not wearing white pants BEFORE Memorial Day, and stop wearing white jeans AFTER Labor Day. ♥️

    1. lol, yes I did. Thanks I’ll fix that.

  13. Here in the northeast I would feel out of place wearing white pants, but I’m fine with winter white as it’s less bright. Love your idea of staying with a tonal look.

    1. Annie, I’m with you. I’m in the Northeast, too. White jeans would be out of place. I also agree with you that winter white is a great option.
This super cold spell we’re having requires lots of layers!!

  14. Good Morning Jennifer. The most important thing I’ve learned from you today is from your email. I have a wonderful dermatologist very talented in detecting any odd bumps that need attention. However, not aggressive at all in recommending IPL or other treatments. I’ve been considering finding a new dermatologist, but I like the solution much better of having two different dermatologists that specialize in differently.

    1. You are lucky to have a skilled one at detecting things that need further investigation. They do practice very different medicine. I’ve always had this so I’m glad I mentioned it.

Would you mind sharing your recipe for your morning smoothie? I recall cherries, collagen, protein powder and I’m not sure what else. Thanks so much!

    1. I also add a few shakes of cinnamon, a tablespoon of peanut butter and a tablespoon of cocao powder for extra protein and an extra chocolatey taste. You can find it at most supermarkets. Cocao not cocoa.

  16. Barbara Gilbert says:

I love black and white also. These photos are terrific. You pair everything beautifully. Thank you for all your great ideas. I live in a colder climate and in the winter I need a heavy coat. But with your help I find ways to make it work. When out for an appointment or shopping in the winter I rarely take off my outer coat. Love your blog!

    1. I find wearing white can be uplifting in colder or dark climates.

  17. Brenda Gordon says:

I love the neutrals and white

    1. Me too. Such a soft pretty combination.

  18. So this post was a real eye-opener for me, Jennifer. I was always in the “don’t wear white until after Memorial Day and never after Labor Day”.
The neutral styling tips, especially footwear have convinced me to give white slacks/jeans a try!

    1. Amazing!! I’m so happy you’ll give it a try.

  19. I love all of your white jean and wide leg outfits.

  20. Beautiful outfits using the white denim jeans. I don’t wear white pants in the winter perhaps it is that in our area, no one does it.

    1. Maybe you could be the first!
