Monday Musings- Honey, Books, and Bees

Happy Monday and Memorial Day if you live in the US. I know most people think of today as the kick-off to summer, and it is, but more importantly, it’s the day we celebrate those brave military men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice and died in service to our country. They and their family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Just Finished reading

SUMMER WIVES

I was totally absorbed in this book last week and enjoyed it immensely. It took a few chapters for me to understand all the characters but once I did, I was totally engrossed in the story and couldn’t put it down. It has a little romance, some mystery, plus a touch of suspense in a beautiful setting. It was a fun escape.

Honey in skincare

My skin has been drier than usual lately. I’ve made a conscious effort to increase my water intake but it needed more so I dove down the Google rabbit hole for some ideas. It turns out they’re putting honey in lots of skin products because it has antibacterial properties, plus it’s a humectant.

HONEY POTION PLUS CERAMIDE HYDRATION MASK / CLEAN BEE FACIAL CLEANSER

I decided to try two products that contain it. I’ve been a devoted user of the Farmacy Clean Green Cleansing Balm for several years and know I love their line so I decided to try their Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser and the Honey Potion Plus Hydration Mask. The wash leaves my skin very clean but not feeling stripped…and has a delicate honey scent…FYI, it does not taste like honey…I checked :).

This Honey Potion Plus Ceramide Hydration Mask looks just like a jar of honey and has the same thick consistency. Once you apply it to your face, it starts warming up and transforms into a white lotion.

Here it is after I massaged it in, and yes, my robe has bees on it…I do have a thing for bees šŸ™‚

You massage the mask in for 2-3 minutes then let it sit for 15. It’s loaded with lots of great things for your skin, including pro-vitamin B, royal jelly extract, propolis extract, Centella Asiatica extract (antiinflammatory and scavenges free radicals), plus niacinamide which makes it very soothing and it leaves my face feeling soft and pampered. IĀ  love it!

Outfit of the week

In keeping with my honey theme, I have a natural fiber outfit in soft honey tones.

  1. How much water do most women on this comment page drink a day? Iā€™m doing some exploring on how people think their skin looks and how much water they drink as we walk through our 60s.

    1. Iā€™m trying to drink 4/5 tall glasses a day and think it helps my skin a lot! They more I drink the better it looks

  2. I use Honeyskin products made with Manuku honey and really like them. Their cleansing oil is fabulous and the ultimate face and body cream is wonderful. I like their face scrubs and facial masks. These products are well priced and good quality. I recently started using Biossance and love their products. I use these two lines exclusively now. For dry skin, I use Biossance pure squalene oil after cleansing then let it soak in and follow with night cream.

  3. I too will try that honey and olive oil skin care. It does sound amazing.
    Love natural stuff like this.
    Thanks for sharing.

Loved your J. Crew “honey” colored outfit, but the chino pants were such strange sizes that I could not figure out how to translate them to anything that I recognized! And they were not returnable if you happened to not get the right size or didn’t like them for some reason. Too bad!!

  5. Just pinned the ‘honey potion plus’ for future reference. (Thank you!) As to books, I love to read and recently polished off a few myself (by flashlight) as passed the time since our area (Canada’s capital city) experienced massive power outages due to a heavy rain fall and high winds. i.e.: Fortunately only nine days for the pocket I’m in as sadly still in the midst of restoring other districts.
All said; shall add ‘Summer Wives’ to my To Read List and wishing you a beautiful week! -Brenda-

    1. I hadnā€™t heard about that outage! How awful Brenda.

  6. I’ve never really heard about honey but I’ll sure look into it. I love Beatriz Williams books. Great outfit of the week.

Honey and olive oil have both been used in skin care since ancient times. Here’s a super simple do it yourself moisturizing mask that’s really soothing:
    1 to 1.5 teaspoons honey
1 to 1.5 teaspoons olive oil
Mix ingredients. Apply to clean, damp skin. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes then rinse thoroughly.

    1. That sounds heavenly. Iā€™ll have to try it.

  8. If you search the JOULES fashion line ,
bees are frequently added added as a
fun motif . They are excellent quality and
    made from cotton .
    Enjoy

    1. Great suggestion. Thank you, Iā€™ll check them out!

  9. My last book was the recent novel by Dolly Parton and James Patterson: Run, Rose, Run. The setting is a young woman setting her sights on a singing career in Nashville- her ups and downs as she learns about what it takes to be a star. Yep, she has a dark history! We are used to Pattersonā€™s skill in plot development, but Dollyā€™s influence in mannerisms and language is obvious to the reader, especially those of us who grew up ā€œthe hills.ā€ I became interested in the book when Reese Witherspoonā€™ company bought the film rights.

    1. That sounds like a great read!! My husband loves Patterson.

  10. Fun post Jennifer, thank you! I too love bees, and if Iā€™m not mistaken, your first photo includes glasses I also have. With bees!! Lovely for water or any other beverage. Target has an adorable wooden bee house which weā€™ve added to our garden to attract hem even more.
    Have a great week!

    1. Youā€™re right! There are bees on my drinking glasses šŸ
Googling that bee house right now. Thanks for the tip!

  11. If you enjoy audio books I highly recommend The 100 years of Lenni and Margot, unforgettable, poignant, funny and sad, just a wonderful story of the young and old.The narration was amazing and I understand a movieā€™s in the works but the book is amazing.

    1. Thank you! Iā€™ve put it on my list. I love to have a great list full of recommendations.

    2. Yes! I listened to that book, too. Lovely. Touching.

  12. I read A Hundred Summers by Beatriz Williams, it was also a very good book! I like the idea of the honey in the products, but people who have allergies to bees need to be careful with products like this.

    1. Oh thanks! I love her writing so Iā€™ll check it out.

  13. Gail Schwartz says:

I immediately downloaded the book. Iā€™m always looking for a recommendation.

    1. Iā€™m always happy to get book recommendations too. You ladies have great ideas.

I had a facial the other day, after a gap of two years, and for skin dryness it was recommended l do a home care treatment of natural yogurt( no sugar and as clean as you can get) and honey. Just mix them together and leave it on for 20 so l am going to try it ! Love Paula Hawkins for fun reads. Happy week šŸ™‚

    1. Yogurt and honey sounds really great for the skin. Thanks for the book recommendation. Have a great one

  15. I recommend The Unmasking by Minka Kent. It’s an easy read, a thriller with twists and turns. I couldn’t put it down.

    1. Thank you! Iā€™ll try it.
