The Best Straight Leg Jeans for Women Over 60
There’s plenty of advice about the best jeans for women over 60, but most of us know the dressing room tells us more than a list of what we should wear. I want jeans that fit well, feel comfortable when I sit down, and work with the clothes I already own. Lunch shouldn’t require unbuttoning anything.
I loved my skinny jeans for years, but these days I prefer a little more room. Straight-leg jeans have become one of my favorite styles because they skim the leg without clinging and give an outfit a clean, balanced shape. They’re easy to pair with everything from a simple sweater and loafers to a more structured jacket.
Straight-leg jeans are apparently “back,” although I’m not sure they ever left. I’ve updated this guide for 2026 with my favorite straight-leg jeans, reader recommendations, options for petites and different budgets, and what I look for in the fit.
What Are Straight Leg Jeans?
Straight leg jeans do exactly what their name suggests: they fall straight down from the hip to the ankle. They’re looser than skinny but not sloppy. They’re usually fitted through the hips and give nice room in the thigh area. That straight line creates a balanced silhouette that flatters nearly every body type. How to Choose a Flattering Pair of Straight-Leg Jeans
I’ve learned that the number printed on the label doesn’t tell you nearly as much as trying on the jeans. Two pairs marked straight leg can fit completely differently.
Because they’re not meant to cling, it’s important to find a pair that follows your shape without squeezing. Here are a few things I look for when I’m shopping for straight-leg denim:
- Rise: I prefer mid- to high-rise jeans that sit comfortably at my waist without digging in. If you’re short-waisted, a mid-rise may be a better choice.
- Fit through the hips and thighs: Straight-leg jeans should skim your legs without pulling or adding too much extra fabric. If you prefer a closer fit, look for a slim-straight style.
- Stretch and fabric: I like denim with around 1–2% elastane for comfort and shape retention. I also pay attention to the weight of the denim. Lighter fabrics are more comfortable in warm weather, but I don’t want them so thin that they lose their structure.
- Inseam and length: Full-length straight-leg jeans should fall near the top of your shoes without bunching. Ankle-length styles are another favorite of mine, particularly with flats and loafers. As a petite, I often choose them to avoid alterations.
If you’re petite, look for brands that offer shorter inseams so you don’t have to rely on tailoring. I often choose ankle-length styles because they work with a variety of shoes and are especially flattering with loafers or low boots.

FRAME Le Sleek Jeans
The FRAME Le Sleek jeans are precisely what the name suggests… sleek, polished, and super chic. They have a slim, straight leg that gives a streamlined look while still feeling comfortable.
I was thrilled to discover the FRAME Le Sleek jeans in Pixi, (their petite fit) because they’re actually ankle-length on me! They have a nice high waist that holds everything in, plus enough stretch to be very comfortable.
Wit & Wisdom Sawyer Straight-leg Jeans
These Wit & Wisdom Sawyer straight-leg jeans in deep indigo are about as classic as jeans get, which is exactly what I like with this jacket. Not everything needs to make a statement. They have a little stretch, come in four colors in regular and petite, and work just as well with a sweater and loafers.
Frank & Eileen Derry Illusion Jeans
These are my black Derry Illusion jeans, a comfy pull-on style with enough stretch to move with me without bagging out at the knees. The Italian-woven fabric is incredibly soft, with 81% cotton, 11% lyocell, 6% EME, and 2% elastane. There’s no zipper, button, or pocket bulk to create lumps, so they layer much like a legging or jegging.
NYDJ Marilyn Jeans
Another great straight-leg option is these NYDJ Marilyn jeans. They come in four blue washes in regular, petite, and tall sizes 00-18. I’m wearing the 6 petite, and they’re plenty long, with a 29 1/2″ inseam. I’ve bought and worn NYDJ for years and know they fit reliably at a great price.
M.M. Lafleur Daria Jean
I adore the fit and feel of these Daria jeans from M.M. Lafleur, which have become my favorite black straight-leg jeans. They come in black, dark navy, and bright ivory, with a relaxed leg, and are made from organic cotton with 4% elastane.
Paige “Cindy” Jeans
These Paige Cindy jeans are a classic medium wash with a cotton/polyester/spandex blend that holds its shape nicely. These have no obvious distressing and feel the most versatile for me.
Best Straight Leg Jeans for Petites
Finding straight-leg jeans when you’re petite can be tricky because simply hemming a regular pair doesn’t always give you the same proportions. The knee placement, rise, and leg opening can all sit differently when a jean was designed for a taller frame. I prefer looking for actual petite sizing or shorter inseams whenever possible.
The NYDJ Marilyn above is one of my favorites for this reason. But here are a few more pairs worth checking out:
Quince Bella Stretch Straight Jeans
I’ve tried quite a few pieces from Quince over the years, and I’ve shared my thoughts in my Quince review. Their Bella Stretch Straight Jeans have a clean, classic look that feels a little more refined than their $50 price tag suggests. They come in several washes, so you can choose a lighter blue for casual days or a darker wash when you want to look a little more dressed up.
As a petite, I’m always happy to see shorter inseam options, and I like that the straight leg isn’t so wide that it overwhelms a smaller frame. They also have a high rise and a little stretch for comfort.
Talbots Petite Straight-Leg Jeans
I always check Talbots when I’m looking for petite jeans because they’re one of the few retailers I can count on to have a good selection season after season. Their Straight-Leg Jeans in Presley Wash have a classic shape and a versatile blue wash that I could see wearing with everything from sneakers to loafers. I particularly appreciate that Talbots offers petite plus sizing and a curvy fit because, as we all know, being short doesn’t mean we’re all built the same way.
Best Affordable Straight Leg Jeans
You don’t always need to spend upwards of $200 to find a good pair of straight-leg jeans. In fact, several affordable brands came up again and again in the comments on this post. Here are some of the best options I found when I was looking myself:
Old Navy High-Waisted OG Straight Ankle Jeans
Old Navy’s High-Waisted OG Straight Jeans are a great affordable option if you’re not interested in spending $200 on denim. They’re around $50 at full price, and Old Navy runs sales so often that you can usually find them for less. They have a classic straight-leg fit that isn’t too slim or too wide and come in several washes.
I also appreciate that they offer petite sizing for women 5’3″ and under, with a 26-inch inseam. Finding jeans that don’t need hemming is always a bonus, especially when the alterations could cost almost as much as the jeans.
Levi’s 724 Straight-Leg Jeans
Levi’s 724 Straight-Leg Jeans are a great option if you’re looking for flattering straight-leg jeans without spending a fortune. They have a high rise and a slimmer fit through the hips and thighs, so you don’t end up with a lot of extra fabric around your legs. I appreciate that they come in several washes and inseams, including shorter lengths for petites. At around $75, they’re also a welcome alternative to some of the pricier denim brands.
Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda Classic Straight Jeans

Best Pull-On Straight-Leg Jeans for Women
Some days I simply don’t want to deal with a stiff waistband, and judging from your comments, I’m far from alone. Pull-on jeans have come a long way. Many newer versions give you the appearance of traditional denim without a button and zipper digging into your waist. They can be especially comfortable for travel, long days out, or anytime you want a smoother fit underneath a top.
Here are some of my favorite options:
Lands’ End Starfish Pull-On Straight-Leg Jeans
A few of you have recommended the Lands’ End Starfish High-Rise Knit Denim Straight Jeans, so naturally, I had to take a closer look. They have a soft, stretchy knit denim fabric and a pull-on waistband, which sounds awfully appealing on days when I don’t want anything digging into my middle. They come in regular, petite, tall, and plus sizes, along with three denim washes, so there’s a good range of options. I also like that they have a classic straight leg rather than a skinny fit.
I’ve tried quite a few pieces from Lands’ End, which you can read about in my Lands’ End review, but these weren’t on my radar until you mentioned them.
Chico’s Pull-On Straight-Leg Jeans
Chico’s is another brand I’d check if a comfortable waistband is at the top of your must-have list. Their pull-on denim gives you that easy elastic waist while maintaining the pockets, washes, and other details that keep them looking like actual jeans.
That distinction matters because comfortable denim doesn’t have to mean jeggings. A straight-leg version gives you some breathing room through the leg and is easy to wear with flats, sneakers, loafers, or ankle boots.
What Shoes to Wear with Straight Leg Jeans
Straight leg jeans work with more shoes than you might expect. Here are a few that I wear regularly:

HI…I love your photos and comments regarding jeans and pull on pants for mature women and bodies….One item you might try are the Jjill Curvy pants, which I love. I’ve recently (over the past 3 years) gone from 225 lbs. to 135…from a size 18-20 to a size 6. I wear the Jjill size 6/curvy, which is great!

What a great inventory of jeans ideas from you, Jennifer, as well as the community. I’ve also had luck with Lyssé, which is a NY company that sells online, and also are available via Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s and others. All of their jeans and pants are pull ons. Their standard sizes are great for longer legs, but I usually get the cropped or straight leg, which for me are like a petite size. Reasonably priced.
I’ve tried them and they do fit well!
What a fabulous roundup of straight leg jeans! This is my favorite style! I have given up on skinny jeans for now😇 This style is definitely one where one brand will be excellent and another brand…meh. i have found the Quince Bella are my new favorites! However, Wit and Wisdom come in a close second. Then there are the Kut from the Kloth. All those have really great straight leg jeans.
I keep an eye out for sales at Old Navy. I can get their jeans with a long inseam or tall if I want to wear heels. I have gotten jeans for less than $20! And they last and come in multiple colors!
Thank you for the pull-on options. I wear Chico’s and JJill’s jeans. I’m currently trying to make straight leg ankle jeans out of 3 pairs of Chico’s pull-ons I bought with the triangle hem that I don’t like. A hemming challenge for me. I don’t know who that trend was for and why the heck I bought them!
Brands are always trying new things. Some are great, some not so much
I bought a pair of Amanda jeans earlier this summer. The petite length works for me, but I wish they had more than 2% stretch. I find the waistband bends over. I wore a pair of older Chico’s jeans a couple of days ago. Comfortable and they fit me well. My favorite jeans are from Seven 7. I have found that I have to try them on before I buy because the size I wear varies by how they cut them. I recently bought straight-leg jeans in black and in a dark rinse. They’re a cotton-poly blend, and while they look nice on me, I don’t like them as well as I like my baby boot-cut jeans. The difference is in the fabric. The boot-cut jeans are a little softer and have a little more stretch. Comfort is important!
Comfort is mandatory for me
I have 4 pairs of NYDJ Marilyn Pull-on Jeans. The fabric is soft and slightly stretchy, and I like that the waistband doesn’t dig in, which makes these the most comfortable jeans I’ve ever worn. They are easy to wear on car trips, on a plane, and for everyday wear. You can dress them up, too. NYDJ is my favorite brand.

I have always been a fan of Tommy Bahama jeans. I had a favorite pair that eventually were relegated to become “gardening attire” until the day I thought it was a little breezy and realized the seat of my pants had split! A great pair of jeans are hard to part with.

My favorite jeans are Liverpool. They have tons of stretch; you can gain 15 lb and still wear them. I used to wear Chico’s jeans but they never fit me in the back and I have to alter the waist to make them tight enough so they don’t fall down. Also, they don’t have as much stretch as I prefer. I agree that the NYDJ jeans are terrific, they also have a lot of stretch.
I recently purchased Quince Bella. Straight Leg in Faded Black. I am 5’2 and have long legs so the 30 inch inseam works for me. I also purchased Ralph Lauren petite straight leg in Dark wash with a 29 inch inseam.

I love this post! For some reason I love trying new jeans. I swap around to see what brands are the most petite friendly since I am small. I have heard Wit and Wisdom are very similar to Democracy which I have in my closet and love the no gap waistband in them. Old Navy I would never tried if it hadn’t been for my daughter….I just ordered the 2P after sending back the 0P because it was a weekend pull on kick flare and I didn’t want it so tight. It has the pull on styling everyone is loving and Talbots makes a nice straight leg travel knit pull on too which I have. Chico in 000 regular in white cropped pull on jeans were cute in summer a couple years back – length perfect. I am 4 10 and around 90 lbs for reference for you shorter ones. J Jill makes a great jean too in petite & I love my NYDJ too. I have one pair of Amanda Gloria Vanderbilt. Can anyone tell me if the Land’s End pull on is too big if they are 0-2?

Wit and wisdom straight leg is probably my favorite -very comfortable. Recently bought a pair Democracy straight legs at Belk. Decent price (and on sale)- fit 😍beautifully. Also anxious to try quince jeans. Just love their sweaters etc. I am 5’6″ and about 138 lbs for reference
I rarely wear anything with a heel these days (even a low block heel). Straight leg jeans look best with flats and that suits me 100% of the time. Although I’m tall and can carry off wide-leg trousers and jeans, I still think they look best with a heel so I’ve passed on them for several years now. You covered my favorite jean from NYDJ. I have Marilyn in every color. Stylish comfort is my motto.

Hi Suzanne….I was 4 ft 11 ” and lost an inch . I just finished Evenity shots for osteoporosis not long ago and have been going to Pure Strength classes for several years. I feel like I am flat to the ground without a heel, ha! I always have even an inch and half heel on & up to 3 inches. I think the flare and bootcut too work best with a heel. I wear a pointed toe , snipped toe, or almond toe in a boot for wintertime. I love the Sheri slim NYDJ & the Marilyn. I like your motto too!!! You are blessed to have height!
This post about jeans reminds me of a scene from the YouTube series Why’d They Wear That, featuring Stacy London and Clinton Kelly. In their discussions covering fashion in film they, in an episode called Scene Stealers, we see Shelley Duval in The Shining. Entering the scene approaching the switchboard, she wears a yellow jacket and jeans. The hosts agree that the fit on the denim is flawless. Check it out, and the series too. Episodes are generally less than 30 minutes, and the variety of films they hit on is top notch.

For the past year, I’ve been wearing Lee Ultra Lux Comfort slim straight jeans “with Flex Motion”. I’m 5’1″ and the 26-inch inseam is great. They aren’t petites, but they still fit well. The waist remains comfortable — even when I gain a few pounds on vacation! Feel lucky that I found them. Bought a pair on Lee.com and two others on Amazon.

I just got Eileen Fisher knit Jean, similar to rag bone Miramar, but dark wash. They come in barrel/lantern, wide leg and straight. Nordy has been out of my size in rag bone so went with EF. A little lower price point, AND wash/ dry beautifully. In case you or a reader is interested.

I agree with the commenter who wanted to know the weight of the denim. I’d like to see denim styles in a lighter weight for summer. I can’t find that information when looking at most jeans online.

I agree with your feelings on skinny leg jeans, I leave that style to my daughters age group. My favorite jean is a slim leg from LL Bean. A real jean material, always consistent, pick the rise, length and just a touch of spandex. Have you ever considered featuring this brand of clothing? Quality and trustworthy. I only have their tote bag. I’ll have to see if there’s a store around to try some on. I don’t order and return clothes to share. It’s so wasteful because many retuned items end up in the landfills.

My Levi’s classic straight, and 724 high rise straight are the most comfortable, forgiving jeans I’ve ever had. They’re a cotton poly spandex blend so light weight enough for summer although I wear them year round. Great price too as I just won’t pay two hundred dollars for jeans. My Jill’s tend to stretch out too much, and I’m just between 10-12 in most Talbots jeans. NYDJ have never worked for me but some Chicos do. I’ll stick with the old classic Levi’s! When you find something that works…

I wear straight leg jeans and they end up looking like wide leg because my hips are very wide and my legs are slimmer. I usually try slim leg to get a “straight leg” look. This is the best I can do with my figure. Plus, I wear jeans about 2 times a year here in Florida. Even our winters are too hot for jeans!

I believe it’s a combination of flattering and taste when it comes to jeans. I have a friend who states jeans are forbidden for any woman over sixty, no matter her size. Another over 80-year-old who wears sequins and bling jeans stating, “Why not?”
Personally, I try to use discretion: straight legs, medium to dark wash, waist high and right sized. Oh, don’t forget a little spandex in the material! 🙂
Jeans may be forbidden for your friend but they’re a wonderful staple for many women at all sizes!
Hi Jennifer……I too am petite and love a great slim straight . Easy to go with and style with just about anything. Another good one to try is Banana Republic straight slim if petite. We only had a BRF and no longer have one but you can order. Wearing a 0P is give it up and order online. If they carry petites instore, no 0P is available instore as a rule. Oh , at BRF & I would guess the BR regular store if you order online and doesn’t work you can return to Ulta and they have a easy return way. My daughter took for me and it worked. Took only a second she said.
Quince makes great jeans for $50 and free shipping. I also wear NYDJ. Mostly straight, some wide leg but NO barrels. Cooler weather is coming – I hope! The linens will get packed away and my jeans and cashmere sweaters will come out. We have had a weird spring and miserably hot summer thus far in St Louis.

Really love the look of straight leg jeans, but with my shape, I find that most straight leg jeans fit like skinny jeans except around the lower calf and ankle. Very much pear shaped, it is a real challenge to find Jeans that fit my hips and very thick thighs. Over 3/4 of my bottoms, be it capri length, long shorts, pants, jeans and even workout clothes have been altered (taken in) the waist to fit my waist if it fits my hips and thighs. So I fit the largest parts and then resize for the waist. Does anyone else have that issue and if so any jeans brands or styles you recommend?
I have a similar problem, Dee. Larger hips and a small was make shopping for any kind of pants including jeans a dreaded nightmare.
I loved a brand of jeans from Macy’s, but they were discontinued several years ago. I then moved to a jean from Lands End, but the waist was an issue again. Thank heaven for belts! Last year, I tried a pair of jeans from SPANX. They fit like a glove, but are heavier than my other jeans. If you don’t mind the weight, SPANX may be for you. I only wish Macy’s would wake up and quit changing things! Good luck!
I’ve been gradually phasing out skinny jeans. I don’t have the physical and emotional energy to wrestle myself into them anymore. I’ve been wearing a wide leg style by Lauren Conrad for Kohls. Weird washes though. I bought online and almost returned them. So much work finding good jeans. I’m 5’2″ and nothing seems short enough. Just saw a positive review for Uniqlo jeans. I believe they offer instore tailoring.

Only 5’ I find that straight leg jeans are about the only shape that looks good and doesn’t make me look and squatty. I am delighted to have stumbled on Kohls Sonoma high rise straight leg jeans in the perfect petite length! I also wear both Lands End and LLBean petite jeans. LLBean jeans have that true denim style and feel.

What a great discussion! I find myself reaching for my dark wash straight leg and slim leg jeans the most. With foot issues, I find the straight leg style so forgiving with multiple shoe options.

I prefer the boot cut as during fall and winter, I like to show off my boot collection! Levis high rise boot cut fit me perfectly.
I don’t wear jeans as much as I wear athleisure wear. My waist has expanded in the last few years, and I have very slim hips and legs, so finding jeans that fit in both the waist and hip/legs is very frustrating. Talbots has always been my “go to” for jeans, but their styles vary widely in how they fit. I currently have a pair of Talbots pull on travel jeans that fit well. I also have a pair of Chicos pull on jeans that fit well. Both of these stores have more affordable jeans as well. I don’t wear jeans often enough to spend more than $125-$150 on them. Merry Christmas Jennifer! Why is it that jeans are the hardest item of clothing to find a good fit. My issue is I’m long waisted so finding jeans that come up high enough in the rise and feel comfortable is difficult. You mention you are also long waisted so I’m curious what size you wear in the Eileen Fisher jeans and how the rise is. And if you would recommend any other brand that fits the bill. I bought the regular length in small because I prefer a higher rise. I’m usually an XS in EF but my weight is up a smidge this season. Frame wigh rise is quite high as are many Talbots.
Good Morning Jennifer. The straight legs I reach for more often are Wit and Wisdom. I have a petite I wear with sneakers and a longer inseam for shoes with practical heels/boots. I also like the fit of my Talbots straight leg, but the denim is heavier and not as cozy/comfortable. My Levi’s are also a favorite. It’s been a few years since I’ve purchased/worn NYDJ. The last pair, even when sized down, stretched out of shape after a few hours. Are you still finding this? One last thing … can’t remember if I told you, I did buy those blue suede Paul Greens. At 5’7″, I can carry off wide leg jeans, always with a high waist to elongate my legs. This is the perfect jean style for my body shape. Skinny jeans and low rises are the worst for me. Medium rises are low-rise on me, with my high waist and long torso. Find what works personally and stick with it!

Julie Traxler, I’m 5’7″, too, and if you mean wide leg when you say “full leg”, I wear wide/full leg exclusively. For the shape of my hips/legs, they’re the most flattering for me.
Julie, I’m 5’7”, size 6/8, rectangle. Agree that the fuller, not oversized wide, are most flattering. Agolde Harper is a perfect fit for me. They are listed as mid-rise straight; however, the legs have a fullness more representative of a great pair of cuffed, wool pants from back in the day! They look fabulous with a silk blouse tucked in, high hip jackets, banded turtlenecks. Can’t count how many times I’m stopped and asked about my Harpers. Traditional straight legs have never been flattering, make me look just, well, straight with no curves and a flat butt.
I am also petite 5’1. Could you tell me how tall you are and I can gage my size better when they offer inseam sizes such as 29 inch instead of a size 2 or 4 I am 115lbs.
I’m 5’4” tall and weigh around 138
My greatest frustration in buying jeans … or any pant for that matter … is when the seller doesn’t give the inseam measurement. I’m 5’6″ but have long legs, so have to have at least a 32-inch inseam for a full-length pant. Just showing me a photo of a model doesn’t give me enough information and Tall for one manufacturer rarely translates to Tall for another. I note that adding the inseam measurement seems to be increasing among sellers, so I’m hoping this is a continuing trend. All that little bit of rant being said, thank you so much for all the info on jeans — I wear them daily in my super-casual lifestyle. It’s great to have this primer on all things jeans. Hey Judy – sounds like we have same jeans length issues. problems. Try the Quince Bella relaxed straight leg jeans. They’re not expensive, easily returnable and their “long” is stated to be 32” inseam. I like the 30” for above ankle, 32” for just at top of foot.
In fact, I’d recommend Quince jeans over most more brands. The Bella are a bit higher waisted, Luna are a bit lower and a bit straighter cut from waist to hip (good for us rectangles). But try them all, then send back the ones that don’t fit (365 day, free returns).
Wonderful straight leg info and options! I’ve gotten more interested lately in the weight of the denim in the jean, and I’m particularly searching for lighter weight denim to wear in the hot summer months. I wish companies included this information with the jean description so you could choose wisely before ordering. Are you familiar with any lighter weight denim jeans? JJill had some several years ago…
I have a lightweight pair from J. Jill and I love them. I will keep an eye out and let you know what I find.

Hi Kathy C., NYDJ has a cool-tech fabric that I found is comfortable in warm weather. Agree, too, with Jennifer that some JJill jeans are light enough for summer months in New England where it is often humid when it is hot.

My perfect fit jeans are Talbots straight ankle denim and Chicos so slimming ankle. I no longer have to shorten the length, since I have lost an inch and I don’t wear heels any more. I recently tried NYDJ, but they were too short in the crotch area (I must be long waisted) and about 3″ too long.
I’ve recently discovered Talbots and Chicos jeans at 60. They fit so well. I am blown away at how nicely they fit and looked polished with a blazer. They are so worth the cost. I am 5’8” and 145lbs.
Because my waist has thickened, I’m now only five inches less than my hips. Sizing charts on all of your jeans shown have ten inches. The most forgiving waistband I’ve found is Chicos. I buy the trouser style which gives me the waist and hip and only is a little large in the thighs going down my leg. They look attractive in black and dark washes on me and they sit comfortably which is very important. I do have to go up to size 12P for my waist. At 135 pounds and 5’1” with a 27-28” inseam, this is the best for me in jeans. I’m down ten pounds from a year ago but my waist never changed.

Yes! I love straight leg jeans! I’ve tried to add a pair of wide-leg jeans to my wardrobe but the weight/stiffness of denim just makes me look wide. I’m the same jean size as you but 4” taller so the ankle length jeans you wear are floods on me. I’m checking out all your recommendations for tall sizing. Thanks for all your research for us.
For your Canadian followers, Tibal makes a nice straight leg, high waisted jean. The company is out of Montreal but they do have offices in Texas so I’m sure they can be sourced in the US. I used to buy NYDJ but have switched for the good fit and comfort of Tribal. They also come in petite.
I reach for jeans every day. Depending on my day they could be black, or dark wash, or light wash, or grey. Like you, I don’t intend to give up my jeans.

This was the post for me. I wear jeans most days. I liked how you explained each kind of jeans. I’ve been having trouble finding straight leg ones that aren’t too big in the thigh area. I had much better luck with skinny jeans. You are right that it can be hard to find the right pair. 💙
It’s so personal based on our specific shape. Trial and error is the best way to find your best fit.
I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with relationship with jeans. I think they just work better on certain body types, mine not being one of them. I was fortunate to find a pair of Gloria Vanderbilt jeans at Kohls that are slip on(no zipper), stretchy but not too stretchy and with a slight boot flare at the bottom. They are comfortable, stay in place and work well in the winter with my Born boots. I’ve also found a few jeans at JJill that work for me. In the warmer months I’ve gravitated to wide leg, slightly loose, thinner denim material jeans that I can actually live in. I need to be able to sit, move and live in comfort.
Comfort is key!
French Dressing (Peggy) jeans are my favourite. The material is just the right weight and they are SO comfortable. I had another pair of jeans in my drawer for years and I never wore them as the waist was too big. My seamstress fixed the waist and now I wear them all the time.
I own several pairs of the NYDJ Marilyn jeans. They fit my thicker waist without bagging in the hips and bottom. I also appreciate that they come in petite sizing, although I do usually have them hemmed an inch or two as they come up a little long on 5′ 2″ me. I also have good luck with Talbots jeans with the “at waist” rise that fit my long waist.
I have quite a few Talbots jeans and appreciate the slightly more forgiving waistband.

I bought the Talbots a couple of months ago, and like them just fine, but looking for an additional brand/wash. I think NYDJ might be the perfect pair, but they don’t have 10p. darnit. Also team straight leg! I wear other styles but straight are best on me. I’m 5’3” with a short torso, carry my weight in my stomach. I like high rise, otherwise I’m yanking my jeans up all day. Like you, I often get “ankle” length to be full length on me. My favorites are Paige Cindy and Gap/Old Navy high rise vintage slim. I’m a lover of loafers and they look great with straight leg jeans! French women aren’t wrong to love straight legs! Tip ladies: after you figure out your brand and size shop Poshmark for your more expensive jeans!

I like NYDJ or Chico’s Girlfriend jeans. The Chico’s come in many colors and are often on sale. I also like their no iron tops. I like easy wear that hold their shape, pack well, and have easy care. As I age, I want comfortable jeans, easy tops that I can dress up or down. I also like Ralph Lauren button up shirts and send them to the cleaners with my husband’s shirts!
