Lands’ End Review: My Take on Their Quality, Fit, and Value
Lands’ End has been a reader favorite for years, and I suspect their generous size range has a lot to do with it. Finding classic, comfortable clothing in petite, tall, and plus sizes isn’t always as easy as it should be. They also carry practical wardrobe staples many of us reach for regularly, from cotton sweaters to winter coats.
But is Lands’ End worth shopping? Here’s what I recommend buying at Lands’ End, what I’d pass on, and a few things to know about their quality and fit.

Lands’ End Review: My Take on Their Quality, Fit, and Value
Is Lands’ End Worth It?
Yes, I think Lands’ End is worth shopping, particularly for classic sweaters, outerwear, and comfortable everyday clothing. They aren’t trying to reinvent fashion every season, which is rather refreshing.
I’m also a fan of their frequent sales. I see little reason to pay full price when another promotion is likely around the corner.
Is Lands’ End Good Quality?
Yes, Lands’ End offers good quality for the price. My coats have held up beautifully over the years, but that doesn’t mean every item is created equal. I still pay close attention to fabric content and construction.
I prefer natural fibers for many of my sweaters, but performance fabrics certainly have their place in outerwear and travel clothing. I also recommend checking the care instructions.
What I Recommend Buying at Lands’ End
Lands’ End has been around long enough to know what they do well, and I think their classic sweaters, outerwear, swimwear, and casual basics are worth a look. Some styles are more traditional than I prefer, but you can find plenty of useful pieces if you know where to look.
Coats and Winter Jackets
I own several Lands’ End coats. They’re some of my warmest layers for Vancouver winters, so I can personally vouch for their outerwear.

Their Squall Jackets are longtime favorites for wind and wet weather, and they’re worth a look. They pack down nicely and work in a lot of temperatures.

This petite down waterproof long winter coat is great! It comes in three colors, sizes XS petite – XL petite. It has 600-fill-power down, a sherpa fleece-lined hood, and fleece throughout the body for extra warmth. An interior bungee cord lets you pull in the waist for a little more shape. It’s so warm I can’t imagine needing a sweater underneath.

I LOVE my Faux-Fur Hood Quilted Long Down Coat. The navy is a pretty blue, and it has a water-resistant shell and 600-fill-power down, with a listed temperature rating of -45°F to -13°F. I have no plans to test its limits, but I appreciate the warmth. I call it my sleeping bag coat. The zippered side vents and two-way front zipper make it easy to walk and sit, which makes a big difference in a long coat.
Shirts and Everyday Basics

I’m a huge fan of a crisp white shirt, and this no-iron shirt from Lands’ End is pretty fabulous. The fabric is soft, substantial, and looks polished right out of the dryer. I also love the oversized vibe.

Pants and Jeans
Lands’ End has several longtime favorites in their pants collection, including their Starfish Pants. I haven’t tried them myself, but I know many women appreciate a comfortable pull-on pant. They come in different leg styles, and I’d lean toward the straight-leg version for a more modern look.
Their Sport Knit High-Rise Pants are another popular style, with an elastic waist and relaxed fit. They look like the pants you’d reach for on a casual day when comfort comes first. I’d pair them with a more structured sweater or jacket to balance the relaxed shape.
I’m also curious about their Starfish Knit Denim Straight Jeans. They look like jeans but are made from a stretchy knit fabric, which is a comfier alternative to traditional denim.
Sweaters and Cardigans
Lands’ End is well known for its Drifter cotton sweaters, a style that’s been around for decades. Many women can’t wear or don’t like wool, so a good cotton sweater is a great alternative. This classic Drifter Cable Sweater comes in 5 colors and two stripes. The Drifter Quarter-Zip Sweater is also a great look.
This Drifter Ribbed Collared Blazer Sweater also caught my eye. I’m always a fan of sweater blazers because they give you the structure of a jacket with the comfort of a sweater.
Their CashTouch Tunic Turtleneck Sweater has the soft, cozy look I like for colder weather. I’d pair the longer length with slim pants to balance the proportions. CashTouch is designed to feel like cashmere, so don’t let the name confuse you. If you prefer the natural fiber, Lands’ End also carries real cashmere sweaters.
Swimwear

Lands’ End is one of my favorite places to shop for swimwear. I recently bought their SlenderSuit Grecian One-Piece, and I’m very happy with it. It feels secure, offers comfortable coverage, and doesn’t look matronly at all. That’s a combination I don’t take for granted when I shop for swimsuits.
Their Tugless Swimsuits are another favorite to recommend, especially if you swim regularly or take water aerobics. They’re designed to stay put, so you don’t have to tug at your suit constantly.
I’ve also recommended their High-Neck UPF 50 Tankini Top for women who prefer more coverage and sun protection. Their mix-and-match separates are wonderful if you need a different size on top and bottom. You can choose from briefs, swim shorts, and skirts depending on what feels most comfortable.
Don’t overlook their UPF 50 Hooded Swim Cover-Up, either. I’ve featured it before because I like the extra protection it gives my neck and shoulders, and the fabric doesn’t cling when wet.
I’ve shared more of my favorites in my 2026 swimsuit guide for women over 60 and my guide to tankini swimsuits for women over 60.
Canvas Totes and Accessories

I couldn’t leave out the Lands’ End Canvas Tote Bags. They’re one of the brand’s most recognizable products, and I can see why they’ve remained popular for so long. They’re sturdy, practical, and useful for everything from travel to beach trips.
I like that they come in different sizes and can be personalized with a monogram. They also have one with velvet for the holidays. They also make nice gifts, particularly for someone who doesn’t need another decorative object taking up space.
How Does Lands’ End Clothing Fit?
One of the biggest reasons Lands’ End is popular with my readers is its inclusive size range. Many styles come in regular, petite, tall, and plus sizes, although availability varies by item. Lands’ End generally offers classic and relaxed silhouettes, but I wouldn’t assume everything runs true to size. A fitted cotton sweater and a winter jacket are going to fit very differently.
I recommend checking the size chart for each item and reading customer reviews. Pay attention to comments about sleeve length, shoulder fit, and whether the fabric stretches or shrinks.
What I Would Skip at Lands’ End
Some Lands’ End pieces have more going on than they need. Contrast stitching, large patch pockets, and decorative trim draw the eye, so it’s worth checking where those details sit. Their simpler styles often give us more options for putting outfits together.
With their roomier tops, the fabric makes a difference. The substantial cotton in the white shirt above helps it hold its shape. Softer fabrics can hang quite differently, especially when the cut is also generous.
The same goes for relaxed pull-on pants. Check the fit through the hips and thighs, where extra fabric can bunch or sag. A comfortable waistband and a good cut can coexist.
Do you shop at Lands’ End? I’d love to hear which pieces work best for you and what you keep going back for.

Do you have any recommendations for the tiny petites that are Petite 0-2 or xsp starting out at Lands End? Everything seems to be in bigger numbers so am hesitant to order sometimes but loves their things. I was interested in sweater jackets to wear in the South since we just have cool weather for awhile then after Christmas winter can kick in. Also loved their eyelet dresses this summer but xs (2-4) was the smallest. I just had to drool. Thanks for your help!
Tiny petite is a challenge. Let me see what I can find.
I have shopped Lands End for 40+ years and can attest to the value of their clothing. I have a lot of basics that have lasted for many years. The classical style comes in and out of fashion that I keep in the rotation about every two years. I rotate my winter wardrobe from year to year. Their petite section has grown over the years which lures me back.
I have several LE swim suits. I am 5′ and the torso area is shorter than the suits that you find else where. The petite size fits me perfectly. I can attest that the tugless suits are true to their name.
On a side note Lands End sheets have lasted, keeping shape and color, for years- both flannel and cotton sheets. The flannel sheets do not pill like other flannel sheets.
Jennifer, thank you for highlighting a brand many people gloss over or forget.
My pleasure. I need to try the flannel sheets!
Cotton sweaters, cashmere sweaters, tee-shirts, outerwear are all staples for me. My dog wears LE jackets during the cold months, too. Just ordered a pair of ponte pants and that will be new for me. If I need to do returns, I choose the option to get a gift card instead of a refund and that way the return shipping is free. I know I’ll always need another basic, so the credit will always be used later on.
I LOVE Lands End and have shopped there for years. Their swimsuits are second to none and often are on sale which is amazing. Most of their pieces are timeless and survive the test of time.
I have never been disappointed with Lands End. The quality is very good for a decent price. I wait for 70 percent off clearance and free shipping. There is also a store near me. When they were in Sears, I bought three classic and timeless dresses. The regular size 2-4 fits me perfectly. I have also worn a coat for many years and like their corduroys, weekend duffel, and tote bags. On their website, I peruse the Final Sale section.
I love Lands’ End Squall jackets and have had three shorter ones and have a longer Stadium Squall which is a lifesaver in frigid WNY weather. Their Pima tees and turtlenecks also are a favorite of mine although lately two short sleeved tees of the same style and color have come out different after laundering.
I like your nuanced and in-depth reviews, Jennifer. I don’t shop much at LE, but occasionally Nordstrom Rack carries an LE item (online or in store) I’m interested in. That solves the problem of returns (at least if you live near a Rack).
I like LE swimwear and the Supima tees. I live in SW Florida and the tees are great for every day wear. Lots of colors in v and crew neck, long sleeve and short sleeve styles. Like another writer here I think the website needs an update, seems out of date and hard to navigate.
I agree their website is a bit hard to navigate.
I have shopped at LE for several years. I have two coats, vest, many tshirts and jeans. The clothes last for years. My husband has about a dozen turtlenecks – that’s about all he wears during winter. They have held up very well for about 4-5 years now. The men’s polo shirts changed fabric last year and there are two regrets that we should have returned. Description said pique’, but they were not. He has always worn pique’ Izod polos but they are inferior quality now. Still searching for quality ones.
I forgot to add, Supima towels, XL Twin sheets in silky cotton for warm months and cozy flannel for cold months. One of the few places I’ve found these to fit our beds that are good quality. I also have duvet covers and I forgot the flannel pajamas and shirts! My husband lives in their shorts in the summer and sleeps in their flannel pajamas at night. I have a navy blue canvas bag with my name on it and have used it for over ten years! I’m sure there is more I’m just not thinking of right now. Of course the no iron shirts are the best I’ve got and on sale right now!
I agree about the no iron shirts. I must try their towels.
I love Landsend and have several coats, jackets and raincoat from there. I do love the Starfish pants and have three pairs of them. I have a lot of their long sleeve relaxed fit tees in the heavier cotton knit, don’t care for the thin knit ones as the neck stretches out and ripples. I love my thin cotton mock turtleneck sweater and I have many fleece zip fronts that I have worn for years. My swimsuit is also from them.
Hi Jennifer,
I’ve been shopping at LE for many years and their clothes to wear well for a few years. I wear the Sport Knit pants for around the house loungewear, they are very comfy and roomy and I also have a few of their winter coats/jackets. For swimwear I buy their swim shorts but don’t like the tankini because they have underwires. Like another commenter, I wear LL Bean tankinis. They too have great coats and sweaters but don’t have the sales like LE.
I do trade shows and always order from Lands’ End. At the beginning of my career trade show clothes for women were terrible!! I wear the no iron shirts with my logo the short-sleeved v neck shirts and the cardigans.
I’ve been a LE shopper since the 80’s. There isn’t much of anything they sell that I don’t have, including shoes, handbags, bedding, towels, luggage and of course clothing. A lot of these items I’m still using . Most of the clothing in my closet is either LE or Talbots. Like you I love their coats, vests, fleece zip tops along with their flannel shirts. And of course their swimwear along with all the rash guard items. My husband also wears a lot of LE items. As far as I’m concerned you can’t go wrong with them. As you said, never pay full price. Just wait a few days and there will be a sale.
I love Lands End as well but have found in recent years some items are not the quality I’m used to. I just returned a sweater jacket because it was so thin I could see through it and the yarn was scratchy. But, many of their knit pants like the Starfish line hold up for years and years with no pilling or losing shape. Love them!
Good morning, Jennifer! I’ve been a Lands End shopper for over 40 years. I think you nailed it perfectly in your assessment! I like their cotton sweaters, swimsuits, and outerwear. I also have a couple cashmere sweaters that haven’t pilled much. The exercise tops I have are going strong after many years. And straight leg Starfish pants are perfect for lazy days. We have multiple tote bags that just don’t wear out. We have an extra large canvas tote bag that is about 45 years old which our daughter now uses to bring towels to the pool. Threads are now coming out of the handle straps & the straps are fraying but she doesn’t mind. Their jeans don’t work for me but they do for my husband. Oh yeah, I also wear their pajamas :). They are a great place for petite basics.
That’s so fun about your tote bag, Kay. Those are the kind of forever pieces I love.
Lands End Sport Knit Pants fit nice and were very comfortable but the color faded as soon as the first washing. I would not buy them again.
Definitely swim suits. I have only bought from Lands End for years. The fit is more conservative and the fabric is study enough that the swim suits hold up for years.
I now have 2 of their suits and love them.
Agree great for swimwear, coats and classic sweaters. Also great kid coats for the grandchildren
Thank you, Jennifer !
Your thorough review of Land’s End clothing and accessories is very helpful.
I have purchased a few “everyday” basics from Land’s End and will now try a few more with your guidance.
My pleasure Patricia. You can’t go wrong with their outdoor wear too.
I have been a long time Lands End shopper. However I have stopped shopping with them because they charge shipping on orders and charge $8.95 shipping on returns even if you ship yourself. I ordered 2 pairs of shorts for my husband. Same style different colors. One fit. The other was way too small. $8.95 to return. I no longer buy from them even though I especially like their swim wear.
More and more brands need to charge for shipping which is a shame but a sign of the economic times.
Charlotte – You can get a credit when you return to LE. It gives you an option whether to return for a fee or accept a credit for future purchase. I always get the credit.
Great tip!
I like Lana End for their board shorts and rash guards. I used to like their tankini but haven’t liked the prints the last two years. I prefer LLBean tankinis. I like a print on top as it camouflages lumps and bumps.
Prints are great for that!
Lands End is my absolute favorite for petite warm winter coats which are notoriously hard to find. I have a long one and two short ones as well as a rain jacket and a packable quilted hip length jacket. The winter coats are all several years old and have seen many wears and still look great. Highly recommend Lands End for coats.
Same with me Elizabeth.
Lands End items are good quality. They last and last. I have found most items run large, so be aware of that.
I’m grateful to be able to order the petite coats.
While I love Landsend swimsuits and tee shirts, I had a bad experience with their international shipping. Since April 2026 they have been using Global Landsend to ship items out of the US. I placed my order in early September and received an email saying my item had been shipped. There was no tracking number and nothing arrived. I contacted Landsend in early October and they had no record of my order and requested further information. I sent them the email that said my item had been shipped. They came back and said my order could not be delivered and had been at a pick up location for 3 weeks. When no one picked it up they sent it back to Landsend. I had not received any notifications from Landsend, but they blamed me saying it must have been in your junk email. This was simply not true. Never again – until Global Landsend improves their shipping and Customer service.
I lived and worked in DC for many years, and can’t tell you how cold it was standing on the outdoor Metro platforms with the wind whipping through the tunnels, FREEZING me. One day I decided I was sick of being cold and ordered a Lands End down jacket, much like the blue one you show with the faux fur around the hood. This was an absolute game-changer. I loved it so much I bought it in two sizes — one to wear over heavier clothing and a smaller one to wear over lighter clothing. I still have both of them and think they were the absolute best clothing investment I’ve made.
My daughter borrowed mine for a last minute trip to Chicago in late November last year where she had to spend hours outdoors, and she loved it! Maybe I should get her one for Christmas đź’ˇ
Years ago I bought three long, down coats from Lands End; one for myself, one for my daughter and one for my mother in law. I called it my dog walking coat and when NY winters got bad it kept me cozy on those long walks. Their bathing suits have always been my first choice. What has kept me away from Lands End in the last few years has been their messy website (difficult to navigate!) and their return policy. When they had a spot in Sears it was so easy to try on for sizing, order and returns. At 75 I dislike having to lug a box or a dirty plastic bag to UPS or wherever. Great products but I want easy ordering and returns.
Starfish straight leg pants have been my favorite winter pants for years. I don’t care for their sweats. Their Serious Sweats are too heavy (Texas temps) and too slouchy for my tastes so I wear Starfish instead. I bought several pairs of their sport knit high rise pants last year and found that different colors fit differently – some are a good fit, some too large. I’m a size 10, 5’6″ but most of their pants are Medium/10-12 and have a tendency to be more in size 12 range. I also find the pockets to bulge too much so they will most likely wind up in my donation box. I love their cotton tanks and their mock neck knit pullovers. They are a classic and I’ve never had any to stretch out or pill.
I love that you can find the actual item dimensions when shopping at Lands End. Click “size charts” and then “item dimensions.” Sometimes it makes a difference whether I order a medium or small or whether I order a regular or petite size.
I wish more brands offered the actual dimensions. It’s so helpful.
I do shop Lands End for winter jackets, jeans and swim wear. I appreciate the mix and match swimwear separates.
I usually wear petite sizes in tops and sweaters and regular in jeans /pants. Lands End has me covered in that.
I’ve shopped LE for 40 years and pretty much like the same things as you. The Expedition coat is my daily dog walk in winter (Landsendia Goose) and I love being able to get a petite no iron shirt. Those cotton tanks rule (bra anyone) as do the swimsuits ((D cup, yasss). But I find most of the clothes not quite stylish and they have always been that way. The quality isn’t what it used to be, shipping is expensive and they charge return shipping. Tried to charge return shipping on something defective. I often try to buy through Kohls for free and easy returns but the prices are more expensive. Boy did I love the Sears days! Generally if I’m going for that classic New England Americana look I prefer LL Bean. Btw a LE “secret” for classics at a great price is the school uniform section!
You are always a wealth of knowledge Shari! Thanks so much. I think most of us really miss Sears.
I love Lands End! I have a Squall jacket that was a gift over 20 years ago, and it’s still in great shape. The shirts are so comfortable and last a long time. My one problem was with the chinos. I ordered 2 pair in 2 different colors, same size, same style. One pair fit fine and the other was too snug.
I love the Starfish knit jeans and wear them all the time around the house as they are so comfortable. They maintain their shape well enough to run errands in them and look good. You can’t beat the price and comfort.
