Double Denim: Does This Outfit Need Saving?

Happy Tuesday ladies! Life feels like it’s slammed into the fast lane and I don’tĀ expect it to slow down anytime soon. We’re in high gear for our move and packing like mad. Many of my clothes are already sealed in boxes which makes getting dressed an interesting challenge. Today’s post is a little different than usual because I want to hear your opinion.

Over the weekend we had lunch out and here’s what I wore. A simple outfit of double denim but I grabbed the wrong jacket as we headed out the door. I have always thought that wearing matching denim was a mistake, now I’m not so sure.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing double denim in blue

This is my favorite denim jacket but I intended to grab my black one. It’s a little darker than the jeans but not appreciably so they look the same color. The white shirttail breaks the colors apart but the fact is they are very similar.

I added this pleated scarf to tie all the colors together. Then I addedĀ these earringsĀ which have quickly become my new favorites. Possibly because they’re white and possibly because they’re lightweight and fun.Ā This bracelet gets worn more times than not these days because it’s easy to wear and comfortable. My little Bee Pin lives on my denim jacket these days and I love it!

You will see these shoes on me a lot this spring and summer. I think I shared that my bunion has been acting up lately. Maybe it’s the extra pounds I’m carryingĀ and maybe it’s stress. Whatever the reason I’m not enjoying it.

When I went to do dressing room diaries last week my feet got so sore I had to stop and buy more cushiony ones. Clarks Palm Glow wedge sandalsI never do that because I’m afraid they’ll rub my feet or bind somewhere. TheseĀ didn’t and I’ve been wearing them daily since. They have a cushiony sneaker wedge that absorbs shock and is a dream to walk in. I’ll need to find them in another color very soon;)JENNIFER CONNOLLY OF A WELL STYLED LIFE WEARING DOUBLE DENIM

This white shirt has 3/4 sleeves and buttons up the back. Why you would ever unbutton these I have no idea but it fits well and is my favorite no-iron fabric. I never have to touch it with the iron and it always looks crisp.

After it warmed up I removed the jacket and wrapped the scarf aroundĀ my neck.

So tell me, does this outfit need saving? Would you wear it?

I think the outfit looks nice I wouldn’t change it and it got me thinking of all the outfit I could create by just altering a few items. In fact for dinner tonight I plan to wear my white jeens white Jean jacket red stripped blouse, earrings ring bracelet and scarf multicolored and red shoes. Red shoes have always loved red shoes, but here I feel the outfit is too matchy match. Will probably switch to black, same style. Short stacked heel with ankle strap. My mind is really moving through outfits just because of your post. Spring is here time to look it.

    1. A small touch of black sounds like just the ā€œpopā€ your outfit might benefit from šŸ™‚

  2. Thatā€™s a perfectly great outfit.

    That last photo….outstanding!

  4. I like the outfit but I think if you switched to a red or coral scarf it would detract from nonmatching blues.

  5. I love this outfit & would wear it in a hot second! I thought DD was usually not good but I think this combo looks wonderful!

  6. Iā€™m not a fan of matching denim. Not because we are told itā€™s a no-no but because it just doesnā€™t sing. I think the black jacket would have carried the eye from your top to bottom. You do look cute though.
Love, love your earrings, too! Theyā€™re fun & flirty!
You mentioned packing, so you must have found a rental that will accept Lucy. And rightfully so!

I think the your denim outfit totally works because of the white shirt beneath the jacket. You look great. And I loved the scarf so much, I just bought it! I am nuts for anything blue and that scarf will add to so many of my outfits. Thank you!

You look great in this outfit. If it looks good and you feel comfortable in it, break the rules and wear it anyway.

  9. “They” keep coming up with the don’t/do rules every few years. Enough already! I have been wearing variations of it since the 70s and will continue to. Btw, it is also called the Canadian tuxedo and is the norm for many of us up here. ????

  10. I love the outfit. The same color denim creates a nice column of color. I would wear it without hesitation.

I love the whole outfit and think it’s casual and looks like you care about looking nice without going full on “outfitty”. I do like the denim in the same tones and I agree the white blouse breaks it up nicely so the 2 denims are not touching. The pretty scarf is a nice touch.

Sorry to say though I personally am not a fan of the shoes. For some reason my eye kept being drawn to them more than the rest of the outfit..Maybe its the strong black and white that overtakes the softer feel of it. I have a thing about shoes. I love them and used to be able to wear any style and walk out the door.

Now, I too, have foot health issues and it seems everything hurts my feet somehow. I often feel like my shoes don’t go with my outfit that well and they don’t go with my fun or sexy attitude either. If its comfortable, my feet feel frumpy it seems, I am always looking to the beautiful women over a certain age and checking out their shoes.

  12. A little torn. Would rather see a very dark denim for either jacket or jeans. But really like the shirt and scarf to break it up.

  13. Iā€™m not a fan of double denim for myself. This outfit works on you so I might have to revisit. I do like it better without the jacket – the scarf and the jewelry are nice accessories.
    You look great, as always!
Good luck with that busy moving schedule. Suz from Vancouver

  14. Agree with others that the black would have been better but you look cute as is. I am sure if the fashion police had been out they would have passed right by! Going to take a look at that shirt…I just purchased one of the Chicos no iron linen shirts. The sales person did say that was relative (no iron linen? ) but it is a beautiful top.

  15. Head to toe matching denim is on trend this season and you’re rocking it! The crisp white shirt and scarf set it off perfectly. Good luck with the move!

  16. marlene alves says:

It appears there’s LOTS of feedback on this, Jennifer; doubt you need more; but the scarf tucked into the white shirt is a winner. However, accurate or not, I will share that I read these no-iron shirts are made with a chemical known to cause cancer. (I know, I know, what doesn’t, but one may want to check that out before purchasing one of those gorgeous Chico blouses.)

P.S. I know finding shoes to fit “the bunion” as well as the rest of the foot is difficult; have really been saved by Sketchers!

  17. I think this outfit looks nice, but nothing special. With that black jacket, it would really pop and look chic and sofiticated! I don’t get that feeling with the outfit as it is. You had the chic and sofiticated vibe going again when you removed the jacket and tucked in the scarf. ????

  18. SUE BRODIE says:

Would not have intentionally picked it our to war as a matched set but as always you look lovely and accentuate your style.. Love to see something a bit more edgy just to see the contrast but I ALWAYS look forward to your posts and appreciate your style choices . sb

  19. I love it! The white shirt really does set it off nicely. I could see it with splashes of red too (scarf, shoes, or bag). Perhaps it’s a ‘no-no’ but I like red/white/blue as long as I don’t look like I’m supposed to be in the 4th of July parade šŸ™‚

  20. I absolutely love the entire outfit. The white shirt and the scarf complete the outfit. We can never have enough denim and wrinkle free white shirts.

  21. Shelia Evans says:

You look fantastic! Would not change a thing.

  22. Joan Sommerfield says:

This combination is very slenderizing and gives a sense of additional height when wearing the same color top and bottom. All in all a very nice look with and without the jacket. Also , it really brings the eye to your pretty face which should be the focal point of any outfit.

A very elegant person I know stated that people should see you first and what you are wearing second and that fashion was very individual otherwise we are merely clones . Interesting point to ponder .

  23. Iā€™m not usually a DD kinda gal but I would wear that outfit in a quick second! Looks great on you, Jennifer! Totally DO NOT agree with ā€œmom jeansā€ or ā€œfrumpyā€ comments!

  24. I love denim jackets and I love jeans. I never wear them together because of “the rule”. Is it “okay” to wear a faded wash with a dark wash?
