Dressing Room Diaries at Loft – Looking For Comfy

Happy Friday, ladies. I haven’t been into Loft in quite a while so I popped in to see what was new. If you’re new here, welcome. A dressing room diary is when I go into a store and try on new merchandise so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25, and hopefully, get a few styling ideas.

For reference, I’m 5’4″ and weigh around 136 lbs. I have an inverted triangle silhouette with broad shoulders, straight hips, and very few curves. I have a long torso and arms and often wear one size larger on the top than the bottom.

As always, you can click the red text for more info and to shop the item.

Loft is having a great sale and giving 50% off 2 items and 40% off one item with the code GIFTS.

This sweater dress is super cute and cozy, but I know I wouldn’t wear it as a dress so I tried styling it as a long tunic with some ponte leggings. I’m wearing the dress in small petite and wish I’d bought it! So cute.
I’ve not tried these leggings on before and was impressed with the weight and fit of the fabric. They’re in a substantial ponte fabric which is one of my favorites for leggings because they hold their shape and help hide lumps and bumps better than flimsy fabrics.

They have a handy pocket for your phone on the leg if you choose to wear them working out. They’re selling out quickly in black and also come in a few other colors. I’m wearing small so they run true to size. I think this look would benefit from this black leather wrap belt which I own a total dupe for that I sadly paid over 4 times the price for. Order one size up in the belt because it runs small.

This sherpa hoodie is really cozy and fabulous. It’s not my usual style but the coziness and color sold me so it came home with me. It’ll be great to toss on for days around the house, walking, or casual errands on a chilly day. It comes in 3 colors, regular and petite but the petite is almost gone. I’m wearing a regular medium which is too large for me so I bought the regular small. I love the shirttail hemline which keeps it from looking like a box. There’s something about the extra-wide twill ties that really appeals to me.

This cowl neck sweater isn’t long enough for me to wear with leggings…but it might be on someone shorter:) It’s a best-seller at Loft and selling out fast because the neckline is flattering, it comes in 6 pretty colors, regular and petite, XXS-XL. I am wearing a small in regular so it runs true to size.

These houndstooth ponte leggings come in regular, petite, and tall, XXS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in small which are long, so I’d simply fold the bottoms under and let them be. This way I get the highest rise and extra fabric to tuck into my socks before I tuck them into my boots.

This plum-colored coat is very soft and lightweight. For women who find wool coats itchy around the neck, this is a nice option. It comes in 4 colors, regular, petite, and tall, sizes XS-XXL. I am wearing a regular small and it fits perfectly. To be honest, I was surprised how much I liked this fabric which is a timely reminder for me to not be a fabric snob.

Same cowl neck sweater as above, this time with velvet leggings. These come in regular, petite, and tall, sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing a regular in small. They also come in a deep mahogany color. You can pay a lot for velvet leggings but I have never noticed much difference so I went ahead and bought these. I’ll pull them out for years to come.

These pants have a few negative reviews on the website which surprises me because I love and bought them. One review complained that they were high rise, yet the description clearly gives the rise in inches which is pretty clear to me. We need to take reviews at face value and check what they say against what the website tells us.

These have 5 pocket jeans styling and are super comfy because of the cotton/viscose/spandex fabric. They come in 6 colors in straight and curvy, in regular, petite, and tall sizes 00-18. I am wearing the coastal gray in regular 6. I also have my eye on the dusty blue which will be perfect for spring and they’re marked down now!

The sweater blazer comes in 2 colors in regular and petite. This is a regular medium that is too large for me and the arms are plenty long so I could opt for the petite.

This shimmer star sweater is a fun way to jazz up a pair of jeans, skirt, or nice pants during the holidays. It would also work with a pair of black sweat pants or joggers for hanging around the house when you want to feel festive. If black is not your thing, it also comes in bright pink. It’s sized XS-XXL, I am wearing a small.

The pants are described as joggers for no reason I can see other than their drawstring at the waist. They actually feel like a nice lightweight flannel with a slim leg and elastic waist. I know I keep mentioning elastic waistbands this time of year, but for lots of sitting and relaxing, I find them the comfiest. These come in regular, petite, and tall sizes XXS-XXL. I am wearing the regular in small and they also came home with me…I did mention I’m looking for more options for blue jeans.

Loft is having a great sale which is why I bought so many things. They’re giving 50% off 2 items and 40% off one item with the code GIFTS. Here are some other great things I found-

Have you been to Loft lately? They surprised me with a lovely collection this time.

Thanks for reading and remember to wear what makes you feel confident.

Love your new hairstyle- very flattering. Gives you a younger edge.
    Sue from Australia

  2. Like your styles. And your hair is looking good.
Sorry this is so short, but just got to my phone at 9:07.

    1. This was a good hair day, thanks, Lin

  3. beth byrd says:

The blue of the sweater blazer is such a fantastic color on you!! I hope you purchased it!!!
The fair isle sweater dress is a keeper, too! It looks wonderful with the leggings.

I like the plaid pants, also. I’m so accustomed to buying solids, I might have to branch out and try a pattern. The plaid is not overly bold, which I like.

  4. Linda Henderson says:

The blues look great on you.

  5. The blues from Loft are lovely on you!

    1. I really like them too, thanks

  6. Leslie Greaves Radloff says:

I love finding things at the Loft, or the brand at resale shops. At 5ft 3in I sometimes switch to talks for sweaters and shirts that I wear as tunics. The small is generally a good shoulder fit, I have narrow shoulders. Also like the grey cowl sweater with the blue jacket and will try a similar sweater with my Oleanna wool jacket length sweater. Always like finding new ways to wear what I have.

  7. I am having the same issue as others when scrolling on my phone. The first two photos are fine, then all the others are zoomed in so can only see a shoulder and part of a leg! 🤣
Loft does have some great sales. I liked the fair isle dress as a tunic!

  8. Linda Stamboolian says:

Love all of the outfits! So much so, that I just became a rewards member at Loft and bought the blue sweater/blazer and a few other items! LOL
You give excellent advice and I follow it often.
Thanks for giving a much needed boost to my grey winter closet.
Living in the Northeast USA where grey clouds are the norm, it is nice to have soft and bright colors.
    Thank you!

    1. Thanks Linda! I bought too many things and just ordered a few more. They’re really cute!

  9. Hi, Jennifer–Love the Fairisle dress (tunic)–is that the regular or the petite? And which size are you wearing? That information is always *so* helpful–the Loft in my area closed, but I’m not to far off your measurements, so it saves me from ‘over-ordering’ and returns.

    1. Oh sorry, I’m wearing a regular small.

  10. Fair isle sweater dress my fav, and I noticed after re-viewing all the pics, your facial expression is different on the fair isle dress pic than all the rest. Did you not like the sweater dress?

    1. I loved it! In fact, it’s in my cart now! I chose a picture where I was looking up because it feels strange to be always looking at my phone 🙂

  11. I really like everything you picked for today. I especially like the fair isle dress on you. Too bad the mirror in Loft is dusty makes their clothing look like they have fuzzies on them. Reflects poorly on the Loft. NOT on you. Have a fun day.

    1. I do love that little dress

  12. The last outfit is my favorite, it looks festive enough to wear to a party and I’m getting used to seeing plaid pants, I have striped, camouflage, and one pair with zig zags but no plaid, Might be time.

    1. They’re as comfy as can be!! Wearing mine today:)

  13. I do shop online at Loft a bit and usually find good sales on “business casual” cloths for the office. I did pick up the velvet leggings, I think they will be perfect for the holiday weeks ahead. There are so many good sales going on right now that make it hard to resist! BTW I had no trouble seeing full pictures, but I am viewing from my desktop.

    1. I really loved this collection. I need to remember to check them often.

  14. Hi Jennifer~ Random, your nails look so nice! Do you have manicures or do them yourself?
Love all of the pieces today and your hair looks fabulous.

    1. Yes, I polish them myself. Thank you. I’m so pleased to have nails that will keep polish for several days.

  15. Debbie Lee says:

Looking good! Wondering if you’ve read “Fashion Feng Shui, the power of dressing with intention”? I just finished reading the third edition and found it interesting.

    1. Just finished it for the second time and found it fascinating!!

  16. Could only see first outfit, like the other ladies. All zoomed looks like, your right shoulder looks great though😂😂😂

  17. I agree with Kaths comment , you look great in those colors !

  18. Same issue here. Can only see partial pictures. They are zoomed it looks like.

    1. Same here. Couldn’t see the outfit’s. Looks like it was on zoom.

      1. It was 🤪 I fixed it

  19. Mary Divine says:

I really like your dressing room try ons. It shows how real people look .

  20. Carol Eberhardt says:

Photos are cropped on the right, but the colors are still very soft and pretty. I’d like to see the whole look.

    1. Sorry about that, I fixed them

  21. Janet M Bowersox says:

All of the selections look great on you! Had to have been a fun shopping day! Also love your hair style, it looks so stylish and casual. Thank you for providing us with such great ideas. I will be ordering the velvet leggings and may check out the dress.

    Happy Holidays

  22. Paulette Levy says:

Not sure if it’s my phone but after the first three pics all I see is your shoulder and arm? But I did read the text and may pop in to Loft on Monday.

    1. I had the very same issue. Seems to be a problem with the post.

      1. I goofed. Fixed now:)

    2. It was my mistake. I fixed it

  23. You look terrific in the outfit in the lead photo – blue sweater blazer over grey cowl sweater. As always, love seeing how you style things.
