Dressing Room Diary: Crushed Silk and Organic Cotton at Eileen Fisher

This crushed silk dress is amazing. I don’t know when they began making it, but it crossed my radar last year, and I bought it in the Atlantis blue. It’s perfect for so many occasions and packs like a dream. I’ve already worn mine for a wedding, shower, Seder, and dinners out when we travel. I was excited to find petite options in the store. This color is Geranium, and it also comes in red, black, gray, and blue. I topped it with a matching organic linen cardigan. I’m wearing the cardigan in regular length, but it also comes in petite in nine great colors.

If you’re looking for a dress you can wear for varying occasions and levels of formality, I highly recommend this one. Its pleats are very forgiving and very comfortable.

This regular is 49.5″ and the petite version is 47″.

Here’s the same dress in “steel”. This versatile neutral is softer than black and coordinates with everything just as easily. You can see that this PP (petite petite) dress is too snug across the chest because it pulls the pleats out.

I topped it with this sheer silk georgette jacket, also in steel. This comes in 4 colors and the yummiest one is the ivory. It’s a great piece to top lots of things, but to be honest, I’m not wild about it with this dress. The dress and jacket are close enough in length to look like a mistake IMHO. What do you think?

The pleats continue in this try-on session with this crushed silk jacket and pleated maxi skirt. This little jacket came home with me and I am seriously considering the skirt. I know these kind of timless pieces travel beautifully and have a uniqueness that appeals to me. The website shows this jacket over the crushed silk dress in steel, which looks terrific.

I’m wearing a simple silk georgette tank under the jacket in soft ivory. It also comes in 5 other colors, including bone which is one of my favorite neutrals.

The skirt also comes in bronze or seafoam, which is stunning! It’s a maxi and does not come in petite. I found this ran large so went down a size. I can see this skirt dressed down with a simple tee, flat sandals and a denim shirt tied at the waist or way up for a dressy occasion. It’s not a fragile fabric and I’ve found it wears very well.

These ponte slim pants are a fabulous basic. I have several pairs of pants in this ponte fabric that I’ve traveled with for over 10 years. Versatility and quality are a hallmark of Eileen Fisher garments. Yes, they’re on the pricier side, but your cost per wear will be pennies based on how often you wear them. They’re a pull-on style with a slim leg and also come in steel color.

This handkerchief linen long shirt is more voluminous than their regular linen shirts and several inches longer. This is their bright pink geranium and it also comes in seafoam, agean, and white. It has a pleated back which adds more volume making it perfect to wear over slim pants or leggings. I could have easily gone down to an XS in this because it does not come in petite. I’m wearing it over a simple short sleeve slub jersey tee shirt in geranium. This tee has classic styling and comes 10 colors. I’ve found the lighter colors are not opaque in this fabric so I gravitate to the darker ones like this geranium.

This washable organic linen skirt runs large, like so many of her pieces. It has an elastic waist and drawstring at the hem that you can snug up to create a balloon shape if you like. There are cargo pockets low on the side and the color is graphite which is like a washed black. I needed this skirt in an XXS but it had been sold already. In fact, the store was packed with shoppers when I was there.

The boucle cardigan has a very open weave and airy look. The organic Peruvian cotton yarn is substantial which gives the sweater weight without being warm. It’s a boxy shape with no front closure, so I tied it in front but you could easily wear it loose or belt it.

This geranium color looks much brighter online than in person, but it is a nice, strong pink. I love this silk georgette crepe top because it drapes so elegantly. It has side slits, mother of pearl buttons on the cuffs and a center front and back seam which slims the look. This would be gorgeous with silk pants for a spring wedding. It also comes in black.

These cotton ponte wide leg pants come in black or white. They’re a great pull on style with side pockets and a nice wide waistband. I don’t usually put wide with wide, but there’s something about this combination that appeals to me. Perhaps because the top is fitted through the shoulders so the silhoutte just gradually widens from shoulder to hem. I’m certain this combo isn’t everyones cup of tea but it works with my wide shoulders.
