Getting The Nautical Look

Happy Thursday, ladies. The nautical trend is hot for spring and was shown all over the fashion runways. The funny thing is, I think of it as a classic motif that we revisit, year in and year out. Remember how fond of it Coco Chanel was? Today’s ootd is anchored by a nautical print tunic and some super comfy white pants.

You can get a nautical look in many ways, including wide-leg pants, stripes, navy with white, chain motifs, or sailor collars. When my friends at Chico’s offered to send me a look for an Instagram collaboration, I zeroed in on navy and white because it’s a classic color combo and always looks fresh for spring.

My tunic is a crisp no-iron, cotton fabric with 4% spandex so it’s very comfy. This tunic is really long so my elongated denim jacket doesn’t quite cover the back of it. In fact, at 34″long, it’ll make a great bathing suit coverup on my trip to Hawaii.

It’s actually a perfect length to wear over leggings so everything is covered. I’m wearing it with the slim Brigette pull-on pant in alabaster. White pants can be pretty unforgiving so I like to wear them with a longer tunic. These are the same style I showed in blue here plus they come in 8 other colors in misses, petite and tall.

I added my super comfy white platform sneakers, budget-friendly options here, and here and some nautical accessories. My bracelet sold out in a flash, but my chain earrings are still available here. Hoop earrings would also continue the nautical theme.

Jennifer, those Bridget pants fit you so well and I’m evious. I tried several Bridget sizes and styles on today at my local Chico’s (almost 2 hours of every style in stock). Sadly, the regulars sagged in the crotch as the rise was too high and the petite sizes were too short . Is so frustrating as I found a perfect pair in an almost (but not quite) white with a beautiful double eyelet decoration at the ankles but the store only had 00 and size 1 in regular and a petite in size 1.5 (either too large or too small). The sales person stated I needed a 0 in regular but I disagreed as I hate the sagging crotch look. I may revisit this style after losing another 5 lbs as I love the fabric lightness. Sure wish more eyelet designed ankle designs were available. If you locate some in your travels and dressing room diaries, please, please post ok?

    1. Being between sizes is frustrating. Perhaps a 0 petite?

  2. LOVE that longer denim jacket! I saw it and rushed right over to Chico’s and picked it up. It’s perfect and will be so versatile. May go back and get the nautical tunic as well!

    1. I hope you love it like I do

  3. Not sure we will get Spring this year we are going right into summer. The outfit is cute and the sneakers are must have.

  4. Love nautical anything. ⚓️

  5. Love the nautical look. I feel like I’ve worn some form of nautical my whole life. It just works.

  6. Great outfit. I love the nautical theme, coming from a family that sailed a lot. May I ask whether you are wearing the petite ankle pant or the regular ankle pant?

  7. Definitely a fan of your OOTD – perhaps because I had already purchased that tunic and that elongated denim jacket 🙂

I also own the Brigitte ankle pants in several colors, but not in white. When I wear white pants, I wear Chico’s so slimming girlfriend ankle jeans. However, based on your outfit today, I will definitely try on those Brigitte pants in white.

  8. What a classic look. I have a navy shirt with little white anchors I pull out every summer to wear with white pants and white sneakers but I think a chambray shirt with regular flare leg jeans and my navy and white topsiders works too. I live on the coast and that is what I see worn on boats in the summer.

  9. I love that denim jacket! The link goes to the westward indigo color. Your jacket looks much darker than the online picture. Do you have the “rinse” color instead? Thanks!

  10. I love the navy & white look. I would pair a cute red purse with it also!!

  11. I like nautical looks as well as I am not far from Newport, RI, and it’s all about the water. Striped shirts and white trousers with a denim jacket, sweatshirt, or (too often) a rain jacket. I have a great red rain jacket from Joules, and it’s perfect for our often misty weather. I like blue sailor trousers too, as long as the buttons are functional rather than decorative. Long tunics are not for me, but I think your idea of using the tunic for a beach coverup is spot on.

    1. Lucky you! I love that whole area

That tunic looks great on you, Jennifer! I have several nautical as well as navy and white items that I will make sure to wear this spring. Thanks for keeping us on trend!

    1. Thanks! I love navy

I do like some of the Nautical ideas here! Love A good Breton tee shirt in navy/ white or red/ white and live in white cropped jeans or white Bermuda shorts with deck shoes in later Spring. Nice to be thinking Spring right now with new snow all around us .

    1. Thinking about spring feels hopeful. Stay warm, Paulette.

  14. I love that you are going to wear that long shirt as a bathing suit coverup! Perfect use for a long tunic type top. Since I am short, I do not look good in tunics (my legs always seem to look shorter in long shirts), but I do love to cover myself up with a shirt like this when I am wearing a bathing suit. Great idea! Thanks, Jennifer.

    1. They make my legs look shorter too 🙂

  15. Oh so cute!! I love the sharp, classic look of nautical navy and white. That outfit looks great on you and screams Spring!!

  16. I love this outfit! So classic and flattering but still fresh and modern. It looks smashing on you too Jennifer. The navy is a great color for you and the combo of dark top/light bottom is perfect for your silhouette!
