Modern Ways to Style a Ladies Linen Jacket

Linen is my go-to fabric and secret weapon for staying cool and comfortable when warm weather arrives. I find a linen blazer the quintessential piece that elevates every spring and summer outfit. This year, cropped linen jackets are everywhere which work beautifully with straight and wider leg pants. Today, I’m sharing five modern ways to style a ladies’ linen jacket that will keep you looking and feeling cool all summer long.

Modern Ways to Style a Ladies Linen Jacket

#1 Cropped Linen Jacket

CAP TOE FLATS / CHUBBY SILVER HOOP EARRINGS / SIMILAR BELT

This fun little cropped linen jacket looks great over so many things, including a casual T-shirt dress, a tank with shorts, or linen trousers for a suiting look. I seldom close my blazers, especially double-breasted ones, because I like them worn casually.

I paired this one with some straight, relaxed jeans in a pale wash, a simple navy and white striped tank, and my cap-toe flats. I like the juxtaposition of the uber-casual jeans with elevated flats and structured, cropped linen jacket. I added a black belt to tie back to the toe of the flats and these chubby silver earrings that I’m wearing on repeat this spring.

#2 Linen Jacket on Linen Pants

I love pairing my linen jackets with a linen pant. While both of these pieces are great standalone building blocks in a casual wardrobe, mixing and matching these pieces creates a relaxed, laid-back vibe perfect for warmer days.

I wear black or white more times than not, so most of my linen pieces are in neutral shades like white, navy, black, or tan. You could easily experiment with linen in soft pastels, brights, or earthy tones to match your taste and create a playful vibe.

#3 Cropped and Cuffed Linen Jacket

I love a white denim jacket, and they’ve done yeoman’s work in my wardrobe for years. I pop them over tee shirt dresses, tees, tanks, and even a blouse. While I wear this style of jacket year-round, I’ve found that I prefer a linen jacket in the warmest months of the year. The material of this linen jean jacket from Michael Stars is lightweight and breathable and a far cry from the thick, stiff denim jackets many of us are used to.

Making small adjustments like cuffing your sleeves and selecting a cropped jacket injects a contemporary edge into your outfit that instantly updates your appearance and gives you a fresh, modern look. Subtle modifications in how you style your pieces can elevate your outfit from outdated to stylish and effortlessly.

A cropped jacket adds a modern twist to your look by playing with proportions and highlighting your silhouette in a contemporary way. The cropped hem draws attention to your waistline, creating a flattering and streamlined appearance.

#4 Long Linen Jacket with Jeans

This white linen blazer is a Talbots favorite that they bring back year after year because it’s timeless and so popular. The blazer is wrist length which makes it flattering on petite and tall women alike. I love how it dresses up over a summer dress or down over jeans. It even looks great over some crisp Bermuda shorts. It comes in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite. The single button closure makes this an easy blazer to wear, open or closed, and to be honest, I seldom close mine.

This is a great example of why it’s important to build your closet with classic pieces rather than following trends and fads. These particular photos are several years old, but they feel as contemporary as the day I wore them. I paired the blazer with a timeless striped v-neck tee, dark wash jeans, and classic accessories. It almost feels nautical without the whole anchor motif.

#5 Linen Jacket with Shorts

Here’s another long linen jacket worn over a column of a white tee and Bermuda shorts. My flats are metallic, which are back on trend this spring. In fact, I always consider metallic accessories a modern choice.

Here’s the casual linen jacket with a more casual pair of shorts, a striped tee, and white tennies. Linen jackets are chameleons in your wardrobe that offer flexibility and polish to anything you pop them over.

  1. I have numerous linen blazers from when I worked…alas, the shoulder pads give it away and say “hmmmm, this is from a few years ago!” I loved wearing them and, just may, take another look at them to see if they can be salvaged without me looking like an “old” lady who cleaned out her closet!

    1. You could take them out and have a seamstress remove the excess fabric.

I live in a warm climate so heavy blazers are seldom needed. I own 3 Tommy Bahama linen jackets and will probably buy more. They are the perfect hot weather jacket.

  11. I got such a bargain years ago when I bought a white inen jeans jacket at Macys. It is styled like the tommy Baham linen jacket (in fact, I think it is the same jacket with a different label!) and I paid $15 on sale!

  12. Hi, I loved all the outfits, a great variety and combinations. Excuse my ignorance
but what on earth is forest bathing? I am intrigued.
Looking back at the photos I particularly likes the knee length shorts and Turquoise jacket.

    1. It is spending time in a deep forest, “bathing” in the fresh air and soaking up the tranquility, stillness and majesty of the trees. Have a great day!

  13. Oh the possibilities! I haven’t worn a linen blazer since my days in the working world. You’ve provided some real inspiration to pair with jeans or shorts for a bit of a dressy look. And I love those stone color shorts from Chico’s.
    Thanks, Jennifer!

    1. I’m glad! There are so many casual ways to wear them.
